June - October (Low Season)

During the low season, the high-speed ferry between St. Thomas and St. Croix relocates to New England. In addition, fewer flights are offered during this time. Many merchants close or offer shorter hours based on the frequency of cruise ships.

The hurricane season officially lasts from June to November. The Virgin Islands chain lies in the main pathway of many hurricanes through the caribbean, and these islands are often hit. If you’re planning a vacation in hurricane season, stay up to date of weather conditions. It may pay to get trip-cancellation insurance because of the possibility of hurricanes.

Visitors usually assume that temperatures in the Virgin Islands are soaring in the summer months. However, it is actually quite nice with year-round balmy weather, thanks to the fabled trade winds, with temperatures varying a little more than 5 degrees between winter and summer.

The advantage of traveling during the low season is that prices are reduced, sometimes as much as 25-50 percent. You are also less likely to deal with crowds, which gives you a better chance to get the true authentic feeling of the island culture. There are a few disadvantages to off-season such as fewer facilities are likely to be open, and some hotels and restaurants may close completely when business is really slow.
