Visit the Australian National Maritime Museum at your leisure with your choice of entrance ticket. Choose between the Big Ticket which includes all seasonal and permanent exhibits or limit yourself to just the special exhibitions and permanent galleries.

In the permanent collection, you can learn about Australias historic connection to the ocean in exhibits that detail stories and artifacts from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and European explorers including Captain James Cook. A full-size replica of Captain Cooks ship The Endeavour, which he sailed to Australia in the 1780s, can be boarded for a hands-on experience of an 18th-century tall ship. Other galleries look into subjects such as immigration, naval defense forces, sailing and surfing.

The collection includes several historic vessels that berth at the docks located in the outdoor section of the museum. Depending on the day of your visit, you may find one or more ships available to tour: the HMAS Onslow, a submarine from the Royal Australian Navy; the HMAS Vampire, the last remaining big gun ship in the nation; and the tall ship named The James Craig, which took 30 years to restore and is one of the worlds few remaining 19th-century barques that are sea-worthy.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Meet your small-group tour in central Sydney then get comfortable on your air-conditioned coach for the scenic 2/3-hour drive to the Hunter Valley. Your guide points out the sights and explains their history as you travel past the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and over the Hawkesbury River.

When you arrive in the valley, your guide takes you to some of the best small producers in the region. Taste as many as 20 different wines. If you want to take some home, you can purchase bottles from the wineries.

In addition to the wine, food has become a star of the Hunter Valley. Your tour includes a stop at an artisan cheese shop to sample a variety of delicious cheeses. For lunch, a delicious café lunch is included, which includes hot and cold options.

5: Wentworth Falls

Visit Wentworth Falls, known as one of the most stunning waterfalls in the Blue Mountains. This is where the Jamison Creek drops down over the escarpment and cascades almost 300m into a large pool. Wentworth Falls boasts incredable views and whilst here you have the option to take a guided walk and revel in the areas rich Aboriginal culture.

7: Kings Tableland

Enjoy the views and discover the rich histories that embrace this part of Australia. Kings Tableland is basically the remains of an eroded sandstone layer that sprawls out for around 1,000m just south of the cascading Wentworth Falls. The plateau was named for King George III by the Governor Lachlan Macquarie, a pioneer in the colonisation of Sydney. It is thought the Kings Tableland has been used as an Aboriginal gathering place for more than 14,000 years. Let your guide share with you the story of Australias Indigenous heritage at this sacred location.

Stop at Govetts Leap Lookout to take in the spectacular view across the Grose Valley. Govetts Leap Lookout is one of most famous lookouts in Australia. North Head has pristine heathland (including seasonal wildflowers) and panoramic views of the entrance into Sydney Harbour.

This headland is a tied island linked to Manly by a sandspit and has remnant military buildings, a memorial walk and a former quarantine station.

2: Barrenjoey Lighthouse

At Palm Beach we walk to the Barrenjoey lighthouse which was built in 1881. It dominates the headland and is a well maintained sandstone lighthouse.

The walk to the lighthouse provides outstanding coastal views of Pittwater and Lion Island and a chance to see interesting sandstone formations and the Australian bush.

After the lighthouse we will drive along Palm Beach and have the option of stopping at Summer Bay if you are a Home and Away (a long running tv series) devotee.

We then take the back route and some wonderful coastal scenery.

3: Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden

A living work of art! Wendy's garden is a serene place in which to admire wonderful landscaping, lush plants and views of Sydney Harbour.

4: Paddington Reservoir Gardens

The Paddington reservoir is a submerged structure that was built in 1864. A second chamber was added to the reservoir in 1876.
It was constructed to store water pumped from a dam located at the Botany swamps.
The columns in the reservoir were constructed from ironbark timber and supported segmental brick arches.
The reservoir only operated until 1899. After this time it was used as a storage facility and for several decades it operated as a service station.
However its roof collapsed and it ceased operating as a service station in 1990.
In 2006 work began to restore the reservoir and convert it into a re-imagined space.
Original brick, iron and timber fixtures were salvaged and the space that formerly stored water is now a serene area which includes a roof garden and a small pool and grassed area along with stairs allowing access to the area.
Occasionally you will see wedding photos being taken in the area.
The Paddington Reservoir is an oasis and a wonderful restoration project.

5: Barangaroo Reserve

Barangaroo is an inner city suburb of Sydney located on the north west side of Sydneys CBD.

It was formerly a container wharf area and has been -transformed into a residential and commercial hub.

The suburb occupies 22 hectares and includes a 6 hectare headland park (Barangaroo Reserve) which was completed in 2015.

The reserve is essentially an artificial hill, but it certainly doesnt look like one.

It was created by a clever feat of engineering and earthworks so that a massive void, known as The Cutaway, exists underneath the parkland above.

The roof of the cutaway required the fabrication, transportation and installation of enormous concrete spans, which underpin thousands of cubic metres of rock, soil, grass and trees.

The Cutaway provides a unique area for cultural events, exhibitions, television shoots, food events and large gatherings.

This visit includes a pleasant walk on a flat path around a around the reserve providing wonderful harbour views.

Next, travel to a lookout where you can enjoy sweeping views of Jamison Valley before heading to Eaglehawk Lookout to see the famous rock formation known as the Three Sisters. Your guide shares local Aboriginal legends about the formation and shows you the best spots for photo ops.

Stop for lunch in the town of Medlow Bath, where the Hydro Majestic Hotel sits overlooking Megalong Valley. You have the option to include a 2-course lunch at the hotel restaurant, which features fine regional foods and sweeping views from large picture windows. Drinks are not included but can be purchased during lunch. Alternatively, your guide can recommend places to eat if you do not wish to include meals.

Continue exploring a number of scenic lookouts in the afternoon, including the celebrated Govetts Leap, which boasts great views of Bridal Veil Falls, a waterfall that cascades 590 feet (180 meters) down a forested cliff. Wrap up with a walk through the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens Mt. Tomah where you can see more than 40,000 types of cool climate plant species from gardens that overlook the Blue Mountains.
