WHAT TO EXPECT

Choose to meet your private guide at your hotel (tour duration will be 8 hours) or at the Tung Chung MTR Station on Lantau Island (tour duration will be 7 hours).

Begin your exploration of Lantau with a ride on the Ngong PIng Cable Car, which features views of Lantau Country Park over the course of the 25-minute ride. Once you arrive at the Big Buddha, you can climb the 268 steps to visit the top, the hall of the 10,000 Buddhas, and the Po Lin Monastery.

Hop on the bus for the 20-minute ride to Tai O, a village comprised of homes on stilts in the water. Visit the colorful seafood market and learn how the village is famous for its production of shrimp sauce and shrimp paste. Enjoy a boat ride (keep an eye out for the native pink dolphins). Stop by the restored Old Police Station, now a hotel, where you can enjoy lunch.

1: Lantau island

Lantau Island is often referred to as the Lungs of Hong Kong because it is so green and underdeveloped. Take a tour of Lantau with us and visit the awe-inspiring Big Buddha and the wonderfully quaint stilt village of Tai O.

Your Lantau private tour starts with a ride on the Ngong Ping Cable Car. You will be treated to the most wonderful views of Lantau Country Park and the airport as you travel over the back of the island for 25 minutes. Our destination is the famous Big Buddha. From Ngong Ping, it is a 20-minute bus ride to Tai O, affectionately known as the Venice of Hong Kong. 3: Po Lin (Precious Lotus) Monastery

The remote Po Lin Monastery, hidden away by lush mountains, became a popular attraction when the extraordinary Tian Tan Buddha statue (informally known as the Big Buddha) was erected in 1993.

Po Lin Monastery is one of Hong Kongs most important Buddhist sanctums and has been dubbed the Buddhist World in the South. Home to many a devout monk, this monastery is rich with colourful manifestations of Buddhist iconography and its pleasant garden is alive with birdsong and flowery scents.

4: Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha)

Tian Tan Buddha or the Big Buddha is the second largest outdoor sitting bronze Buddha statue in the world. Sitting 34 metres high and facing north to look over the Chinese people, this majestic bronze Buddha draws pilgrims from all over Asia.

The eyes, lips, incline of the head and right hand, which is raised to deliver a blessing to all, combine to bring a humbling depth of character and dignity to the massive Buddha, which took 12 years to complete. Climb the 268 steps for a closer look at this remarkable statue, and to enjoy the sweeping mountain and sea views that can be seen from its base.

5: Tai O Stilt Houses

Tai O is home to the Tanka people, a community of fisher folk whove built their houses on stilts above the tidal flats of Lantau Island for generations. These unusual structures are interconnected, forming a tightly knit community that literally lives on the water. Their enchanting world is a photographer's paradise.

The manually operated drawbridge that spans the narrow creek dividing the town replaced a rope-drawn ferry that operated for over 85 years.

6: Tai O

A visit to Heritage Hotel, dating from 1902, this building was formerly the Tai O Police Station and one of the earliest police stations built in the New Territories. It is situated on a small hill next to the Tai O Ferry Pier.

The building was revitalised and converted into the Tai O Heritage Hotel in 2012. The hotel includes nine colonial-style rooms and suites with sea views and a roof-top restaurant serving Tai O specialties. The surrounding cannons, searchlight and guard towers have all been restored. Here you will be served lunch at the end of your tour.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Meet your group and guide in front of the General Post Office at No. 2 Connaught Place in Hong Kong a little before 8:30am. Hop on your tours bus for a short ride over to Kam Shan Country Park. The park is inhabited by many monkeys, so make sure to keep a lookout for these furry guys.

Follow your guide to the path where youll begin your hike. The path is a forest trail and provides picturesque views along the way, so be sure to have your camera with you. Along your journey, the forest has openings where you can spot some popular areas of Hong Kong in the distance, including the harbour, industrial buildings, and the railway to Hung Hom.

When you get to the bottom of Lion Rock, your group has to decide whether to venture up the mountain or bypass it on the trail. Either way, youll have great views. Continue to Sha Tin Pass, and leave the forest behind you as you eventually walk into the Tai Sin district. Here your tour guide parts ways with you at Wong Tai Sin MTR.

Getting off the bus you'll be surrounded by monkeys. Macaques, re-introduced to Hong Kong in the 1910s to eat the poisonous fruits of a plant found around the Kowloon Water Reservoir. Since then a stable Macaque population has established itself in this area.

2: Lion Rock

The path the attention is soon with the beauty of the forest trail and the breathtaking vistas. You'll be on shaded path in forest for most of the hike but every now and then the view opens up to the urban jungle of the Kowloon Peninsula down below. On clear days the skyline of Hong Kong Island is visible, and the former Kai Tak Airport, now fitted with a cruise terminal. Then finally, a climb over the rocky back of the Lion the city stretched out below.

Your private guide will pick you up from your hotel at the appointed time. Then you will be transferred to Victoria Peak (About 1,305ft. above sea level) for sightseeing. On the way, you will pass by Repulse Bay and visit the Aberdeen Fishing Village, where an optional sampan ride can be organized upon request. After the visits, you will be escorted back to your hotel.
