The most elegant dome of the Taj Mahal rises 80 feet over the building and directly under the dome is the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal, Shah Jahan`s favorite wife, for whom the palace was built. The Agra Fort across the Yamuna River was built by the same Moghul rulers who built the Taj.

Other noteworthy buildings are Sawai Jai Singh`s observatory, Jantar Mantar, and the Amer Palace.
