WHAT TO EXPECT

Your private guide meets you at your Khajuraho hotel at 9am and transfers you to the western group of the Khajuraho Temples.

Begin at Kandariya Mahadev temple, a massive structure with more than 870 statues and carvings. Continue to the Chaunset Yogini temple, the Chitragupta temple, and Viswanath Temple the largest example of the temples in this area.

The World Heritage-listed Khajuraho temples were built between the 9th and 12th centuries, and are known for their depictions of eroticism along with other themes.

After a morning of temple hopping, take a break for a buffet lunch at a popular restaurant. Then browse the selection of handicrafts made by local households in this small town, where houses have been converted into budget hotels, shops, and restaurants.

In the early evening, have the option to see a sound and light show (at additional expense) at the temple complex. The 50-minute show is presented in both Hindi and English, and it highlights the story of the Chandela dynasty that built the temples around Khajuraho.

When your tour ends around 7:30 pm, your guide returns you to your Khajuraho hotel, or to the airport or train station.

Meet your personal guide at your hotel in Khajuraho at 9am and begin your day with a transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage site known as the "Western Group of Temples. Start your visit with the Kandariya Mahadev temple, the most popular and beautiful massive structure. It is a magnificent piece of artistic sculptural work decorated with over 870 statues and carvings. Stroll through other temples such as the Chaunset Yogini, dedicated to the Goddess Kali; the Chitragupta or Bharatji, featuring a lovely image of the 11 headed Vishnu; Vishwanath, Nandi, Lakshmana and Visha, dedicated to Shiva, which is the largest and most typical of the temples in this area.

Afterward set out to explore the local handicrafts of the town. In this small town, tourism accounts for the main source of earnings for its local people. Notice how nearly every household is engaged in some kind of commercial activity. Houses are converted into budget hotels, shops and restaurants.

4: Light and Sound Show Evening

Finally, in the early evening, you can enjoy an optional sound and light show (not included in tour price) at the Western Group of Temples complex which provides a brief overview of the life and times of the great Chandela Kings and highlights the story of the exclusive temples from the 10th Century to the present day.
The fascinating 50-minute show is presented in both Hindi and English languages.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Panna

Start the tour after finding your guide and at the meeting point in Khajuraho. Board the coach to begin with the most expensive experience of lifetime. The drive to Panna mines may take two hours. Panna is beautiful town located in Madhya Pradesh, is the biggest center of diamond mining in India.

The tour to Panna mines will take you to those areas of the town that are the store houses of the diamond. These mines are laid across on an area of 80 kilometer belt, starting from the Paharikhera North-East to Majhgawan South-West with breadth of around 30 kilometers. Following the Australian method, here too the diamonds occur in a pipe of olivine lamproite. The grade of the diamonds varies from 13 carets per thousand hectares to 6 carets per thousand hectares. Watching the diamonds being picked is a marvellous experience. The ores being crushed, screened and jiggled and then the concentrate being spread on the secure ground and then the diamonds are handpicked. This is indeed the simple way that produces the world's most expensive gem.

2: Panna District

Also visit the natural crater-cum-waterfall of Brihaspati kund to witness the extravagant beauty of mother earth. Brihaspati kund is famous among locals and fairs are often organised here. This place has its evidence in old Hindu epics by which it got its name. Some Neolithic rock paintings are also can be seen which is a proof of continuous human existence at this place. Enjoy the packed picnic lunch and free time for photography. On the way back you will stop at Panna city to see and learn more about the diamond cutting its identification secrets and how the simple shining stone becomes the most expensive gem on your beautiful figure or neck. Drive back to Khajuraho with wonderful memories. The tour finishes at the same point where it starts.
