Pickup from your centrally located hotel in Udaipur at 10am and you will embark on a 2-hour drive to Ranakpur.

Arrive in Rankpur and visit the Jain Temples at Ranakpur, superbly preserved in a near-perfect condition for over 500 years. The most attractive features are the 29 halls of the temple, which have 1444 pillars of which no two are like. The temple is an eloquent testimony to India's cultural heritage, her unique architecture and the vision and acumen of her past master artists.

The ambience of Ranakpur is mainly highlighted by the location and the almost divine architecture, giving the same hue as its counterpart - the great Dilwara Temple in Mt-Abu. This temple is the realization of the vision and endeavors of four great and devout seekers Acharya Somasundatsuri Dharanashah, the Minister to Kumbha Rana, Rana Kumbha, and Depaa, the architect who made the realization of the dream possible.

Overall, Ranakpur is known as "a tranquil town of pilgrimage."

The Crystal Gallery houses a rare collection of crystals that Maharana Sajjan Singh ordered from F&C Osler & Co in England in 1877. The Maharana died before the collection arrived, and all the items stayed forgotten and packed up in boxes for 110 years. They were put on public display in 1994.

The royal collection includes a number of objets dart, dinner sets, perfume bottles, decanters, glasses, washing bowls and even furniture. There is a priceless Flora Danica dinner service that bears the royal insignia of the House of Mewar. Of the original Flora Danica service pieces delivered in 1803, 1,530 survive to the present day.

This is one of the hotels where the James Bond film, Octopussy, was shot. Originally built in 1743 by Maharana Jagat Singh II, the palace was restored and converted into a hotel in 1963.

Catch a glimpse of the Jag Mandir Palace that is situated on an island of the same name. The Palace also known as the Lake Garden Palace has an imposing entrance flanked by sculptures of eight elephants.

Ride in your private air-conditioned vehicle to Jagdish Temple, a 3-story temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and built in 1651. Continue to the City Palace, one of the largest palaces in the world. See the Crystal Gallery, which features furniture and utensils all made from glass.

At noon, take a boat ride on Lake Pichola, which is surrounded by bathing ghats and hills dotted with palaces and temples. After a 1-hour cruise, stop for a leisurely lunch at a recommended local restaurant.

A majestic architectural marvel towering over the lake on a hill surrounded by crenellated walls, it is a conglomeration of courtyards, pavilions, terraces, corridors, rooms and hanging gardens. The main entrance is through the triple arched gate, the 'Tripolia' with eight marble porticos. The Maharana were weighed under the gate in the gold, the equivalent amount of which was distributed among the populace.

2: Jagmandir

Jagmandir is a palace built on an island on the Lake Pichola. Also called the Lake Garden Palace, the construction for this began in 1620 and was completed around 1652. The royal family used the palace as its summer resort and for hosting parties. The Palace had such an impact on Emperor Shah Jahan that it went on to become the inspiration for one of the most magnificent Wonders of the World, The Taj Mahal.

You will get picked up from your hotel in the city center. Accompanied by your guide, drive to Monsoon Palace. Named after Maharana Sajjan Singh, the Monsoon Palace is also known as Sajjan Garh Palace. Built on a hill top, the Monsoon Palace offers fantastic views of Udaipur, which had risen to prominence under the rule of Maharana Sajjan Singh. It is constructed with white marble with turrets, towers and pillars which depict beautiful motifs of leaves and flowers. Despite the beauty of the Monsoon Palace along with its unique rainwater harvesting techniques, the palace was slowly abandoned and has not been renovated. Not until very recently had the Monsoon Palace been opened to the public and it has now been added to the list of Udaipurs popular tourist destination. WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Narlai

You will be picked up from your hotel in the early morning for your drive to Narlai, a village located between Udaipur and Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

Narlai lies at the base of a hillock crowned by a statue of an elephant. There are several Hindu and Jain temples. The temples of Adinath and Lord Shiva are the most prominent temples. The ceilings of these temples are decorated with fine murals. The centuries old village of Narlai at one time was an important royal hunting reserve.

Take a walk through Narlai Village with its maze of lanes, pass through the intricately and ornately carved Jain temples, and admire colorfully dressed ladies and men adorned in huge turbans. After discovering the village, enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant. (lunch not included).

Following lunch embark on a Leopard Jeep Safari in the countryside around Narlai.

Upon completion of your Narlai adventure you will be driven back to your hotel within Udaipurs city center.

Start your 6-kilometer cycle in a boutique haveli nestled in a winding alley close to Hanuman Ghat. This trip includes a shooting experience in the lively Old City of Udaipur, where we travel to the six most recognizable yet picturesque spots. Our e-bikes offer a great method to cover every corner of Udaipur's old city, allowing you to enjoy the city's true culture as we stand to shoot some of the most authentic postures. Using automobiles is difficult in the ancient labyrinth of streets, and walking may be taxing.

The Old City is a photographer's and designers' dream, with its imposing darwazas (gates) and iconic stained glass windows in vibrant hues. You'll be taken back in time to the 16th century, when administrators and managers of the royal family settled in this neighborhood and built enormous mansions (havelis) dominated by scalloped arches and technicolor windows unlike anything you've ever seen. As Burhan (your visual artist/cum host) shares tips on light, lenses, and basic etiquette, you'll be transported to a sepia-tinted era. Spend an hour taking pictures, posing, and looking back in time. For instance, the havelis, which symmetrically side the streets, lean toward one another as they ascend toward the skyline, forming a characteristic arch.

Sajjangarh Fort (which is also known as the Monsoon Palace), is located at a distance of 10 km from Udaipur city. The palace reflects the rich cultural and history of Mewar Kingdom. The palace, built with white marble, is located on Bansdara peak of the Aravalli hill range at an elevation of 944 m (3100 ft) above mean sea level, overlooking Lake Pichola from the west about 1,100 ft (340 m) below the palace.

The palace has a grand central court with a staircase and many rooms and quarters. The palace is built on marble pillars, which are carved with exquisite motifs of leaves and flowers. The walls are plastered with lime mortar. At night, the illuminated palace with the Rajasthani architecture comprising domes, fountains and jharokas gives it a fairy tale beauty.

Situated just outside Udaipur, this 19th-century palace is built on top of Bansdara hills. Used as a monsoon palace and hunting lodge, its builder, Maharana Sajjan Singh, originally planned to make it an astronomical center. The plan was cancelled with Maharana Sajjan Singh's premature death. It is still an awe-inspiring sight on the Udaipur skyline and offers spectacular views of the city and the areas around.

1: Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh (approx. 2 hours). Built on a hilltop 3,600 feet (1,100 meters) above sea level, the fort of Kumbhalgarh is protected by the thirteen mountain peaks of the Aravali Range. The perimeter walls extend 22 miles (36 km) and frontal walls 15 feet wide. Kumbhalgarh has seven fortified gateways and over 360 temples within the fort, 300 ancient Jain and the rest Hindu. This is the second longest wall following the Great Wall of China. From the top of the palace you can see far into the Aravalli Range. As one of the local legends, Rana Kumbha, the Maharana of Kumbhalgarh, was repeatedly unsuccessful in attempts to build the fort wall. A spiritual preceptor was consulted and advised the ruler that a voluntary human sacrifice would solve the impediment. The temple was to be built where the head should fall and the wall and the fort where the rest of his body lay. For some time no one volunteered until a pilgrim came forth and was ritually decapitated. Today the main gate of the fortress, Hanuman Pol, contains a shrine and a temple to commemorate the great sacrifice.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We will show you the traditional materials and techniques used to create the miniature art for which Udaipur is famous. We will show you how to paint with natural mineral colours on paper, using squirrel-hair or camel-hair brushes. You will create your own paintings that you will take home as a unique souvenir! You will be guided by an expert artist throughout the class. Breaks for tea/water can be taken as needed. Please allow 1½ - 2 hours for the class. And don't forget to bring your camera or phone!

Please note that while we try to be flexible, normal hours for classes are between 9.30am-11.30am and 2.30pm-4pm every day.
