1: Shiga Kogen

Arrive at one of the ski resorts (Including Shiga Kogen) chosen by our staff based on the snow condition of the day. Our staff member will distribute and activate your lift passes, and help you unload equipment from the bus, and point out any necessary information.

Those who booked lessons will move with the our staff member to the reception office for the ski school. Those who did not book lessons can go to the slopes as they wish.

1: Zenko-ji Temple

As one of the oldest, largest, and most important Buddhist temples in Japan, Zenko-ji is the spiritual heart of Nagano.
The temple's near-1400 year history is full of legend and myth which your guide will help you unlock as they guide you around the temple precinct followed by free time (time-permitting).

3: Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park

After a filling lunch at a local restaurant, be ready to be WOWed by the monkeys!

Established in 1964, Nagano's world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is home to the only troop of monkeys in the world known to bathe in hot springs. With no barriers between you and the monkeys (don't worry, they are very calm) this is a unique opportunity to observe these curious creatures in close proximity as they walk around you, wrestle with each other, endlessly groom, and of course, soak in their favorite hot spring! Your guide will introduce you to everything that makes them so unique and famous while giving you plenty of time to explore for yourself.

Please note that estimated time at the monkey park includes walking in and out along the forest trail - 1.6km each way / 25 minutes each way in summer, slightly longer in winter. We endeavor to give our guests 1 hour in the park to observe the monkeys.

This tour includes a reasonable amount of walking including to and from the monkey park along a 1.6km (1 mile), unsealed forest trail. Please sure your footwear is appropriate and you are dressed accordingly for the season. The trail includes 2 different staircases, and therefore is not wheelchair accessible.

Guests are required to follow the Snow Monkey Park rules at all times. Guests are not permitted to touch, hold, feed or bathe with the monkeys at any time. There are no barriers separating the monkeys from visitors to the park. Please ensure you keep a minimum distance of 1 to 2 meters between yourself and the monkeys. Your guide will explain the rules prior to entering the park.

This tour uses different forms of transport. Tours can be conducted by microbus or a large bus depending on the season and size of the group.

From mid-December until early-April the trail and park are likely to be affected by snow and ice. Please ensure that you are wearing suitable shoes/boots and warm clothing. If required, rental boots are available close to the monkey park and crampons (metal spikes that attach underneath your shoes/boots) can also be purchased. From mid-December until early-March please wear suitable clothing for temperatures potentially below 0°C (and as low as -10°C).

During the winter it is common to see the monkeys enjoying the hot spring however from spring up to autumn there will be times where the monkeys play or eat in the water, however please note that the monkeys are wild animals and there is no guarantee that there will be monkeys in the bath.

There are a few days in the year that the monkeys might not come down to the park, arrive late or leave early. While this is unlikely, it is possible and is outside of our control.

*Winter only* Guests in Hakuba can join this tour using our shuttle service from / to Hakuba Tokyu Hotel in Wadano and Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal. This service is only available from mid December until end of March and may not be available every day between those dates. We apologize that bookings from / to Hakuba cannot be accepted outside of these dates. When using this shuttle service please note that your guide will join and depart the tour at Nagano Station.

*Winter only* This tour is scheduled to conclude at Nagano Station by 17:30 (and by 18:45 for guests joining from Hakuba in winter). However, due to weather and road conditions in winter we cannot guarantee the end time. For guests booking shinkansen tickets to travel to Tokyo after the tour in winter, we ask that you do not book any service earlier than the 17:56 Kagayaki (reservation only) or our recommendation of the 18:23 Hakutaka. For guests booking onward tickets to other destinations we also recommend doing so for times of 18:00 or later.

Meetup with your guide inside Nagano Station at 9:15am - they will be waiting for you in front of the Information Board/video monitors, directly across from the Shinkansen/Bullet Train ticket gates - and travel by public bus

For at least 1000 years, Togakushi has been considered sacred, attracting Shinto practitioners and mountain ascetics into its forests. Indeed the story of Togakushi is linked to the creation myths of Japan. Your guide will explain the legends to you as you walk along the forest trail to the main village where you will have lunch at 11:45.

Enjoy Togakushis renowned soba (buckwheat) noodles at a local restaurant before continuing your exploration, by walking the Chusha (Middle Shrine) and then onto to the Ninja Museum - a walk of around 50-minutes.

Established in the 12th century, the Togakure school of ninja was founded in the mountains of Togakushi a place known for its inaccessibility and natural defences. Alternatively called shinobi, ninja were covert mercenaries, masters of espionage and deception, disappearing as quickly as they appeared.
Youll be guided around the museum before having time to explore for yourself including (should you wish to), entering the Ninja House a maze of deception from which you must try to find your way out. As much for adults as it is for kids!

Finally, meeting-up with your guide again youll make the short walk to the Zuishimon Gate and along the iconic giant cedar avenue of Togakushi*. A wonderful way to finish your day in one of Japans most mysterious landscapes. *Please note, due to time constraints and the challenge of the walk, we do not go all the way to the Okusha (Upper Shrine) but instead spend extended time walking along the cedar avenue. The tour ends in Nagano Station at 5:30pm.

4: Togakushi Shrine Okusha

Walking from the Ninja Museum with your guide, you will head toward the 'Okusha' (Upper Shrine) through the 'Zuishimon' Gate and along the giant cedar avenue. This is specactular landscape and ideal end point for the tour. The walk to and from the gate takes around 25-30 minutes (in both directions). Please note, due to time constraints and difficulty of the walk, we will not walk all the way to the Upper Shrine.

Your guide will lead you around the historic grounds of the castle while introducing you to its history, legends and secrets. Should you wish to, you can enter the castle itself and climb all the way to the top-floor of its six storeys or simply take the time to relax outside.

Stroll through the streets of Nawate-dori, also known as Frog Street, which is home to more than 50 shops, restaurants, and cafes most famous for selling all things frog-related.

Situated 1500 meters above sea level deep within the Chubu Sangaku National Park, Kamikochi is famous for its pristine natural state, beautiful rivers and ponds, lush forests, and dramatic mountain peaks rising to over 3000 meters. Your guide will lead you along a gentle walking trail starting at Taisho Pond and following the stunningly azure Azusa River, through mixed forest and onto to the parks famous Kappabashi (Kappa Bridge). The tour will start with a walk through the famous Nawate Street, also known as Frog Street, in Downtown Matsumoto. Completely closed off to private cars, this street provides a relaxing area to window shop, try some local ice cream and snacks, or visit the adjacent Yohashira Shrine.

Next you will be led inside Matsumoto Castle after a short walk. One of only 12 original castles remaining in Japan and one of the largest and most impressive out of those 12, this castle is everything you need to see to understand more about the Samurai lifestyle and governance in Old Japan. Not just historical but also extremely beautiful, Matsumoto Castle is sure to win you over with its bold but delicate exterior design.

After leaving Matsumoto Castle, guests will board the dedicated tour bus and get out on the road to head for Narai-juku post town. Known as the longest post town in Japan, with over 1km of traditional wooden buildings lining its single main street, this town is everything you have dreamed about when it comes to possessing a traditional Japanese atmosphere. Here your guide will lead you through the town and explain the history and purpose of this town and why it was important. 1: Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park

Established in 1964, Nagano's world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is home to the only troop of monkeys in the world known to bathe in hot springs. With no barriers between you and the monkeys (don't worry, they are very calm) this is a unique opportunity to observe these curious creatures in close proximity as the walk about you, wrestle with each other, endlessly groom, and of course, soak in their favourite hot spring! Your guide will introduce you to everything that makes them so unique and famous while giving you plenty of time to explore for yourself.

Please note that estimated time at the monkey park includes walking in and out along the forest trail - 1.6km each way / 35-minutes each way in winter. We endeavour to give our guests 1 hour in the park to observe the monkeys however this depends on your pace in and out of the park. Please also note that during winter the trail and park will be affected by snow and ice so please ensure you wear good quality shoes or boots.

This tour includes a reasonable amount of walking including to and from the monkey park along a 1.6km (1 mile), unsealed forest trail. Please sure your footwear is approriate and you are dressed accordingly for the season.

Guests are required to follow the Snow Monkey Park rules at all times. Guests are not permitted to touch, hold, feed or bathe with the monkeys at any time.

There are no barriers separating the monkeys from visitors to the park. Please ensure you keep a minimum distance of 1 to 2 meters between yourself and the monkeys. Your guide will explain the rules prior to entering the park.

From mid-December until early-April the trail and park are likely to be affected by snow and ice. Please ensure that you are wearing suitable shoes/boots and warm clothing. If required, rental boots are available close to the monkey park and crampons (metal spikes that attach underneath your shoes/boots) can also be purchased. From mid-December until early-March please wear suitable clothing for temperatures potentially below 0°C (and as low as -10°C).

During the winter it is common to see the monkeys enjoying the hot spring however from spring up to autumn there will be times where the monkeys play or eat in the water, however please note that the monkeys are wild animals and there is no guarantee that there will be monkeys in the bath.

There are a few days in the year that the monkeys might not come down to the park, arrive late or leave early. While this is unlikely, it is possible and outside of our control.

This tour includes lunch at 'Japanese Dining GOEN', a popular local restaurant. On rare occasions it may not be possible to use this restaurant in which case we would switch to another, comparable location. Please note that the restaurant may change their menu from time-to-time and the tour lunch may different to images shown on this page.

A short walk away down the narrow Chestnut Alley is the rear entrance of the Takai Kozan Memorial Museum. This was the former residence of Takai Kozan, the rich merchant who invited Hokusai to Obuse as his patron and student. The museum exhibits many of Kozan's paintings as well as some of his calligraphy works. The building itself is well known for its hidden rooms and secret passages.

Visit Hokusai-kan to see collection of Hokusai's greatest works. Hokusai spent several of the final years of his life in Obuse before he died at the age of 88. 1: Nagano Station

Meet with your guide in front of Starbucks Midori Nagano station. We will start to walk to Zenko-ji temple. It takes about 20min to get there, but you won't feel it is long because it is nice to see the local area to look around. If you already have seen Zenko-ji temple or you are not interested in seeing it, your guide can take you to the local shops and local shrine around Zenko-ji temple.

2: Zenko-ji Temple

Arrive at Zenko-ji Temple. Your guide will introduce you not only Zenko-ji temple but also Naganos laid back area to visit some local shops around Zenkoji temple.

Arrive at Sake tasting place. You can try to taste variety of Sake here with nibbles like soy source beans and some Japanese pickles. Miso is one of the Nagano specialities and you can have Naganos miso soup as well.

1: Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park

Established in 1964, Nagano's world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is home to the only troop of monkeys in the world known to bathe in hot springs. With no barriers between you and the monkeys (don't worry, they are very calm) this is a unique opportunity to observe these curious creatures in close proximity as the walk about you, wrestle with each other, endlessly groom, and of course, soak in their favourite hot spring! Your guide will introduce you to everything that makes them so unique and famous while giving you plenty of time to explore for yourself. Please note that estimated time at the monkey park includes walking in and out along the forest trail - 1.6km each way / 25 minutes each way in summer, slightly longer in winter. We endeavour to give our guests 1 hour in the park to observe the monkeys.

Following your visit to the monkeys, your guide will accompany you to lunch at a nearby restuarant. This tour uses either 'Enza Cafe' located within walking distance of the park or nearby 'Japanese Dining GOEN'. Both restaurants serve a mixed Japanese / Western menu and are popular with both local residents and visitors.

After lunch you'll jump back on the tour bus and head for your afternoon of 'hanami' (flower-viewing). We monitor the condition of the blossoms across various spots in Nagano - some are famouss while others are very local but all are very beautiful - and select the best location for each tour on the day. For that reason it is typically not possible to advice which location we will visit in advance of a tour, but rest assured, we choose the best spot for you to enjoy the beautiful blossoms, to wander freely and capture those precious photographs. You should have at least 1.5 hours to enjoy the cherry blossom spot we select for your tour.

In winter, the snow monkeys are often seen in the parks hot spring bath. However, in spring and autumn months, the monkeys may just play or eat in the water

Kokugon-ji is a temple in the countryside of Nakano, originally built in the year 825. The temple is home to a well now recognised as one of Shinshu's famous waters. It is considered to be enmeisui, or water capable of extending your life! Despite the quiet and little-known location, the temple is surrounded by over 1000 cherry blossom trees, making it a stunning location during the spring.

While sightings are generally reliable during much of the year, there are times particularly in certain seasons when they may not come to the park due to weather, food availability, or other natural factors. Please understand that we do not offer refunds if no monkeys are present during your visit. Our team will still provide a comfortable vehicle, a knowledgeable guide, and a well-structured itinerary to make your visit meaningful. Even without the monkeys, the walk to the park offers beautiful forest scenery and a memorable nature experience each season has its own charm.

Please do not eat or drink coffee inside the vehicle to keep it clean for everyone. Bottled water and small pets in carriers are okay.

This tour is not suitable for individuals with significant mobility issues due to the walking required, particularly the 1.6-kilometer trail to the Snow Monkey Park. Snow Monkey Established in 1964. The only place in the world where monkeys bathe in hot springs. Obuse () is a small town in northern Nagano Prefecture with a pretty town center. Hokusai, a renowned Edo Period (1603-1867) woodblock painter, who is best known for his ukiyo-e woodblock print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, spent the later years of his life in Obuse with his patron and student, Takai Kozan, a wealthy local merchant and art enthusiast.

Several of the town's highlights are related to the artist and his patron, including the Hokusai Museum, the Takai Kozan Museum and the painted ceiling of a local temple. Obuse is also well known for its seasonal produce, especially the locally grown chestnuts.

1: Enoshima Island

Enoshima is a small island off the coast of Kamakura. According to legend, it was formed in 552 AD when a goddess named Benzaiten emerged from the sea and tamed a five-headed dragon that was terrorizing the nearby village. The dragon and the goddess fell in love and became the protectors of the island. Benzaiten is the patron of music and art, and many people visit her shrine on Enoshima to pray for her blessings. The shrine is also famous for its colorful statue of Benzaiten with eight arms. Enoshima has been a popular tourist destination since the Edo period, especially for Kabuki actors who admire Benzaitens talent.

2: Kamakura High School

Kamakura High School is the model for Shohoku High School in the popular manga and anime series Slam Dunk. Fans of the series can visit the intersection near the station where the main character Sakuragi Hanamichi met his crush Akagi Haruko for the first time. You can also take photos of the school, the sea, and the streets that appeared in the series. This is a nostalgic place for many people who grew up with Slam Dunk in the 80s and 90s.

Shonan coast walk From the railway crossing and the road, you can go down the stairs to the beautiful Shonan coast, one of the best surfing spots in Japan. You can enjoy the beach, the waves, and the relaxing atmosphere. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji on the horizon. The Shonan coast is also a popular location for many Japanese TV shows, movies, and other media. 3: Enoden Bus Kamakura Office

Enoden is a charming streetcar that runs between Fujisawa and Kamakura. You can see many of Kamakuras famous attractions and the stunning Shonan coast along the way. Enoden is a symbol of Kamakura and often appears in anime and movies. You can enjoy the view from afar or hop on the streetcar for a fun ride.

You will take Enoden from Kamakura High School to the Great Buddha. Please follow the tour guide closely to avoid getting lost. This fee is a complimentary item. If you cannot ride due to unforeseen circumstances, the fee will not be refunded.

4: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is a Shinto shrine that dates back to the 12th century. It was founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate. The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and patron of the samurai. It is one of the most important shrines in Kamakura and a symbol of Japanese history and culture. The shrines territory is vast, and many places have been designated as National Historic Sites. You can admire the architecture, the gardens, and the statues of the shrine. You can also buy some lucky charms or make a wish at the shrine. The shrine is famous for its cherry blossoms and maple trees, which attract many visitors during the spring and autumn seasons. It was also awarded one star in the Michelin Tourist Guide.

5: Kotoku-in (Great Buddha of Kamakura)

The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amitabha Buddha, the principal Buddha in Pure Land Buddhism. It is located in the Kotoku-in Temple, which dates back to the 13th century. The statue is about 11.4 meters tall and weighs about 121 tons. It is one of the most famous landmarks of Kamakura and a symbol of Japanese Buddhism. You can enter the temple grounds for 300 yen and see the statue up close. You can also go inside the statue for 20 yen and observe its hollow interior and structure.

Established in 1915, Daio Wasabi Farm is highly photogenic and the perfect setting in which to dive into the history and versality of this surprising green plant.

Wasabi is an essential element in Japanese cuisine and is particularly renowned as an accompaniment to Japanese sushi. A visit to a wasabi farm is a world of discovery in all the secrets of this famously zesty ingredient.

Please note that the round trip from/to Matsumoto and the Wasabi Farm takes approximately 30 minutes subject to traffic conditions.
