WHAT TO EXPECT

Depart from a central location in Osaka and climb aboard a comfortable vehicle for the transfer to Shin-Osaka station, where your futuristic bullet train awaits. Climb onboard and marvel at the vehicles incredible velocity during the ride to Hiroshima.

On arrival, continue the journey to Miyajimaguchi by vehicle or train then board a boat traveling to the majestic Sacred Island, a landmass hailed as one of Japans most beautiful landscapes. Disembark and discover the natural and cultural treasures of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed island with your guide. See the shimmering Itsukushima Shrine then revitalize with a delicious lunch in a local eatery (own expense).

Reboard the boat and cruise back to Hiroshima to reflect on the heartbreaking history of the region. Take a moment of contemplation at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a historical site near to where the atomic bomb exploded. See exhibitions that articulate the carnal destruction the bomb caused and marvel at the citys regenerative recovery.

Established in the 6th century, this shrine is one of Japan's finest, and is famous for its beautiful Shinden-zukuri style structure (architecture representative of a nobles' residence in the Heian period). Join us for a hands and feet on udon-making class at our authentic restaurant! You can enjoy the delicious udon you create right after the class.(Our chef cook for you) You can also enjoy making udon while sipping on Japanese sake or beer (Drinks are not included in the fee).

We teach Sanuki udon making, which the dough is kneaded with your feet. This creates a unique texture that is both firm and soft, much smoother than store-bought udon. WHAT TO EXPECT

Meet your guide and group at one of two convenient departure points, either in central Osaka or central Kyoto.

Begin your exploration of UNESCO-recognized Kyoto, capital of Japanese culture, in the Arashiyama district. Visitors who arrive in this striking area in April will be treated to the visual feast of blooming cherry blossom trees, while those who arrive in November are likely to experience fiery fall colors. During the summer, observe locals participating in cormorant fishing. Another pleasant option for your time in Arashiyama is the Sagano Bamboo Forest, where you can enjoy a walk along the edge of Tenryuji temple.

Take a break around mid-day for lunch. Guests who have paid for the lunch option will enjoy a traditional meal. After, continue to Kinkaku-ji Temple (the Golden Pavilion), where you can admire this elegant complexs collection of serene gardens and neatly manicured grounds and learn about its construction. Continue to the Great Buddha Statue at Todaiji Temple, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world.

Leaving Kinkaku-ji, continue to Nara and proceed to Nara Park, a preserve known for the 1,200 wild deer that freely roam its grounds. Visitors can purchase senbei snacks to feed the animals.

Following your trip to Nara Park, return by bus to your original departure point.

1: Arashiyama

First, we'll make our way to Arashiyama, where we'll enjoy a traditional Japanese lunch of seasonal Kyoto specialties (If option selected) before exploring the area. The Sagano Bamboo forest has been a popular nature-viewing destination since the Heian Period. Listen to the distinct rustle of bamboo leaves as you walk through the vibrant green bamboo path. You can also see the "moon-crossing bridge," Togetsukyo, as you walk along the beautiful Katsura River.

2: Kinkakuji Temple

Later, drive through Kyoto proper and arrive at Kinkaku-ji: the Golden Pavilion. True to its name, the gold-leaf covered temple dazzles in the sunlight, reflected in the mirror-like pond it overlooks. After admiring the sight (and taking some great pictures,) wander through the sprawling garden that has retained its original design from the 14th century.

WHAT TO EXPECT

At the beginning of this class, wearing an apron and the class starts at making on your own sushi rice. Your instructor provides a wooden tub and paddle for each participant so that you can make your own sushi rice separately.

Next, everyone participates together to make rolled eggs for egg sushi with a rectangle-shaped frying pan. After that, making traditional Japanese broth Dashi then make Miso soup with fancy shaped vegetables and tofu.

In this experience, you make 3 kinds of Sushi (9 nigiri-sushi, 2 gunkan-maki, and 1 rolled-sushi). All the ingredients are included in this activity! Besides, you skewer the Chicken and making Yakitori, too.

Learning to make wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) is a wonderful way to experience Japanese culture and create creations rooted in centuries of history and tradition.
Made with simple ingredients (white bean paste and glutinous rice flour), wagashi can be enjoyed by vegans and vegetarians alike!

In this wagashi-making class, you'll learn how to make nerikiri, one of the highest quality wagashi, typically used in the tea ceremony.
First, you'll learn how to make the dough from scratch. Next, you'll color the dough in delicate colors and then create beautiful decorative flowers from the dough.
Finally, you'll shape the dough into balls and garnish with decorative flowers. This process requires some skill, but you'll be incredibly satisfied when you finish.

Kyobashi Station

We end at Kyobashi Station, which has both JR and the subway, as well as the Keihan line, which provides easy access to Kyoto.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Pulala Tenma

We've got lots to show you in this historic neighborhood, and not just related to food either. Over the course of a 35 minute stroll, you'll learn about the history and now of this part of Osaka. We'll also visit two different restaurants here in Tenma, spending about half an hour in each. This is THE foodie city, so let's get down to the details! Food will vary by restaurant and your tastes over the course of the evening, but typical dishes include kushi katsu (various fried food on sticks), dote nikomi (slow cooked beef... parts), "tonpei yaki" (a grilled pork and egg dish), poached chicken with sesame seed dressing, slow simmered vegetables in a light soy sauce fish stock, lightly pickled mackerel, and much more! We always serve at least ten dishes on our tours.
Incidentally, for those looking for something extra beefy, we offer the option of adding 100g (3.5 oz.) of well-marbled Kobe (or nearby) beef at one of our stops. Delicious, but plenty of food tonight even without the beef.

2: Ogimachi Park

Though most of our time will be spent in a lively warren of smaller streets, we take a little break here to see one of Osaka's favorite green spaces. Nice views, and great cherry blossoms too during spring.

3: Tenjimbashisuji Shopping Street

The longest covered shopping street in Japan, Tenjinbashisuji has a duly long name to match! We're not about shopping on this tour, but we'll walk down a short portion of the street to get a feel for the scene. Almost all the stores are local, so it's not like the homogenized shopping areas in so many other central parts of the city.
Speaking of small scale, since our tours never have more than six guests, we are welcomed into restaurants as part of the family - not as a factory processed tour brigade. You can absolutely count on some fun local interaction!

4: Kyobashi Station

After we've thoroughly surveyed Tenma, we'll hop on a train (fare included) for the short ride to Kyobashi, our second neighborhood of the evening. It's here where the famous Tokaido road from Tokyo to Osaka has entered our fair city for centuries. The neighborhood's vibe is a tiny bit more salubrious, but equally fun - and filled to the brim with character. In Kyobashi, we'll walk around about 10 minutes before stopping at a final "standing bar" for more food and drink (included).
We love this area because people are super friendly, and the neon and architecture in general still looks just as it must have in the 1960s when Kyobashi really grew into its own during the post-war boom.
