Washoku was added to the UNESCO Heritage list.
You can learn about Washoku from Yuki who is an experienced decorative sushi roll instructor. She has appeared on TV many times because she is popular.
In 2024, Portland, Oregon, USA and Sapporo Hokkaido celebrated the 65th anniversary of their sister city partnership. The welcoming celebration was held at a hotel in Sapporo, where she demonstrated and served Decorative sushi rolls to the mayors of both cities.

We welcome international guests to our Sushi Roll Preparation School in Sapporo. At our hands-on workshop you will learn how to cook decorative sushi rolls.
When you return to your home country why not impress your friends?

We have 3 teachers.
Satomi and Yui learned this artistic sushi rolling technique from Yuki.
We are all professional sushi rolling instructors.
Prices vary depending on the teacher. You're lucky if there's a discount!

If you book Yuki's class, the meeting place is the bus stop Ishiyamahigashi 7 chome . (There is a parking space on her property, so you are welcome to come by car also.)

If you book Satomi's class at the cafe, please take a street car to come there. The nearest station is Nishisen 9jyo asahiyama koendori. Satomi would pick you up this station if you require. The cafe's name is "Piano Piano cafe & studio".

If you book Yui's class or SNACK experience, come to the convenient Susukino area. They are held in New Bimatu building, a 3-minutes walk from Susukino subway station. The meeting point is the entrance of the building.

WHAT TO EXPECT

At our hands-on workshop you will learn how to cook decorative sushi rolls.
You can take away your sushi rolls after the class.

You will get English instruction and ingredients, apron rental free, and recipes in English in your class.
If you have any special dietary concerns ( food allergies, Vegan and Vegetarian etc.) please inform us in advance.

What to Expect

In the morning, we will drive to Shakotan Penninsula for a walk through some stunning coastal scenery and a chance to take in the famous blue ocean. Its a breathtaking view spot.

Well then have time to try some local seafood for lunch.

After this we will take a leisurely drive to Yoichi Distillery, where the famous Nikka Whiskey is produced. You can hear some explanation about the founder Masataka Taketsurus Scottish inspiration and dream (we can provide translation for the Japanese tour), and then try a sample for yourself (soft-drinks are provided for non-alcohol drinkers and those under 20 years old).

With a total distance of 17.5 kilometers and a moderate difficulty rating, this hike is best enjoyed from May to late November, when the trail has less snow.
A more challenging day hike is to Jozankei Tengu dake. This ancient volcano, standing at 1145 meters, has been sculpted into a series of rugged summits, surrounded by cliffs, offering hikers a challenging experience. Although the Blue Pond is an artificial reservoir created as part of volcanic disaster prevention works related to Mt. Tokachi, its beauty feels like a natural miracle.

It is referred to as Japan's "Little Dragon".

Every morning, the water turns a beautiful shade of blue, pure and bright. Aoike was once photographed by National Geographic photographer Kent Shiraishi. The work was later acquired by Apple and became one of the default desktops of the Mac series. The water of Qingchi has rich minerals and sandy components from volcanic ash. Under the sunlight, Qingchi will display various hues with subtle variations in the environment. You never know what he might show you at the next moment, which creates high expectations.

3: Shikisai no Oka

From 2024/06/01 to 2024/10/08, we will visit Shikisai-no-Oka every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday (about 40 minutes).

Shikisai-no-Oka has a vast and beautiful flower field covering an area of 15 hectares, like a carpet of seven colors and rainbows, with different patterns in different seasons.
From May to October, the rolling hills are blanketed with over 30 types of flowers such as tulips, lavender, and sunflowers blooming.

Additionally, there are several alpacas available for tourists to visit and feed (you can choose to visit the alpaca ranch in the park and pay 500 yen for the entrance fee).

4: Yoshida Tomita Farm

From 2024/06/01 to 2024/10/08, we will visit Tomita Farm (about 30 minutes) every week.

One of the oldest flower fields in Japan has undergone a transformation from its former lavender to a large pastoral farm with over 150 types of flowers. Lavender blooms are typically in early June.The winter greenhouse opens to the public in mid-August and you can see various plants such as lavender and geraniums. In addition to lavender, other flowers are grown in the garden as well. In May, there are saffron blooms from mid-April to May. Climbing to the top of the flower field, you can see the scenery of Furano Basin and the Tokachi mountain range in the fields of lavender.

Ningle Terracein Furano is a handmade forest experience workshop inspired by the character in the novels of Japanese writer Satoshi Kuramoto ( a 15 cm elf living in a large forest). The cabins here are small shops selling unique small goods, mostly handmade, such as glass crafts, paper crafts, hand paintings, and crafts made from dried lavender flowers from Furano. Each shop is small and exquisite, and everything is only sold here and there will be no second one.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Channel your inner cowboy on a horseback-riding trip through the scenic mountain countryside near Sapporo. Best of all youll get to experience the glory days of the American West as you start your ride in a simulated Western town, complete with stables and Old West-style wooden buildings.

Begin your horseback riding adventure with a pickup in the early morning in Sapporo by taxi, taking a 40-minute drive to the ride starting point to arrive in the morning. Start your excursion at Mustang Town, a simulated Old West village complete with all the typical structures of a Hollywood-style cowboy town.

Meet your instructor-guide for the day, also known as the Sheriff, who will take you through a brief safety lesson, including tips for mounting your horse, holding the reins and tips for turning and stopping. Those with previous horse riding experience can request advanced tips from the instructor.

This soba-making experience was originally designed for Japanese guests.

In Japan, many people love soba but have never made it themselves.Soba-making is traditionally considered artisanal and usually takes place in an enclosed workshop, with many soba-making classes requiring a fixed schedule and lengthy training.
In response to requests to experience soba noodles more easily and in earnest, this hands-on class was held at a full-fledged soba restaurant that has been open for many years.

During the experience, you will learn traditional soba making methods, such as mixing dough, stretching, cutting noodles, and tasting freshly made soba noodles.The program follows an established structure refined through years of practice.

The English explanations are concise, with visual demonstrations.
This experience is ideal for those who want to learn and experience Japanese food culture through hands-on experience rather than detailed lectures or guided tours.

Enjoy sublime views of the countryside around Sapporo during this small-group mountain bike ride thats perfect for beginners, culminating in a trip to a traditional Japanese hot spring and a curry lunch. Its the perfect blend of outdoor activity and relaxation during your visit to this northern Japanese city.

Start your mountain bike adventure with a morning pickup in Sapporo, continuing about an hour to the start of your ride. Before you head out, get fitted with a bike, helmet and gloves, and listen to a brief safety overview of your ride.

Then start off on a 1.5-hour mountain-biking trip along a peaceful path tracing the Toyohira River, its waters swollen with runoff from the melting snow of the Jozankei Valley. Along the way youll cross a picturesque suspension bridge and enjoy sublime views of the river canyon below. Your ride finishes with a steep downhill into Jozankei, a town of traditional onsen hot spring baths first discovered by a local monk in 1866. Youll be able to see the steam rising from these naturally heated baths as you wander the town.

Stop for a quick bite of onsen manju, a snack made of a bun filled with azuki-bean paste, before continuing on a steep ride back uphill towards the Shirai River. Bike back over the Toyohira, where you can dip your feet in the cool waters, before heading to the nearby Hoheikyo Onsen for your soak.

The 6-mile (10km) ride finishes at this heated spring, ranked in 2013 by TripAdvisor users as one of the areas top hot spring day trips. Ease your way into an indoor bath, letting the tension from your muscles fade away, or head to one of the sites three outdoor pools, where you can take a dip among the beautiful mountain landscape. Enjoy a 1-hour soak at the pool of your choice, letting the sites 100-percent pure waters fed exclusively by hot spring, relax and rejuvenate your body.

Finish your cycling trip with a delicious lunch of Japanese curry, considered to be Jozankeis most popular food, accompanied by tasty naan bread for dipping, at the onsite restaurant.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Start your mountain bike ride in the morning, approximately one hour after youre picked up by air-conditioned minivan from Sapporo.

Upon arrival at the Nopporo Forest Park, youre fitted with a mountain bike, helmet and gloves. Once you receive safety precautions and instructions on basic mountain biking skills, follow your guide along a mostly dirt road on a loop trail through pristine flatland forest.

Cycle past old-growth trees, where you may spot deer, squirrels, Japanese hares, Hokkaido salamanders, and native foxes, among other critters, that inhabit the wildlife sanctuary. Napporo Forest Park is home to 140 species of birds, including kingfisher and kumagera (black woodpecker), the worlds largest woodpecker with enough beak power to be heard throughout a forest.
