WHAT TO EXPECT

Meet your guide at your Luang Prabang hotel and enjoy the views as you drive into the countryside to explore the Kuang Si waterfalls. Along the way, stop to visit the H'mong village of Ban Na Ouane and learn more about Laos ethnic hill tribes as you get a glimpse of everyday life.

After about 1 hour, arrive at the parking area for Kuang Si Falls and follow your guide on a short hike through the rainforest. Enjoy free time to swim in the clear waters beneath the falls, take photos of the dramatic travertine pools, or hike around. (Note: bring a swimsuit, towel, and a clean set of clothes with you if you want to swim.)

After working up an appetite, head to the Khmu village of Ban Thapene, which lies just below the falls, and tuck into a delicious picnic lunch (included) by the waterfront. Take time to stroll around the village and admire the local tradition of basket weaving, before climbing back on the bus.

You'll visit the craft villages of Ban Xiang Khong, famous for its traditional paper-making, and Ban Xieng Lek, renowned for its skilled weavers. After browsing the villages and shopping for souvenirs, arrive back in Luang Prabang, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

1: Hmong Village School

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Luang Prabang at around 8 am and drive around 30 kilometres in western direction. En route, we stop at the local Hmong Village of Ban Na Ouane where we witness the daily life of this ethnic hill tribe of the northern part of Laos. A walk through the Luang Prabang's lush jungle leads to Kuang Si which is considered as Laos' most beautiful waterfall and a must-see visit for those staying in Luang Prabang.

The trail passes untouched forests and the Asian Bear Rescue Centre until the picture-perfect setting of the falls is reached.

2: Kuang Si Falls

The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside which leads to the main fall with a 50 meter, three-tiered cascade. The water collects in numerous turquoise blue pools as it flows downstream. The many cascades that result are typical of travertine waterfalls with beautiful scenery; an abundance of flora and fauna surround the area.

After enjoying the scenery, you are free to take a swim in one of the nearby clear pools. There are also some hiking paths around the waterfalls, bringing each visitor deeper and closer with nature. Below the tiered limestone pools lies the Khmu village Ban Thapene. The Khmu men are especially good basket weavers and can sometimes be watched crafting these, still used in the daily lives of the Laotians.

Lunch will be served nearby the waterfall. One can enjoy the scenery around the waterfall for a short time before we head back in the direction of Luang Prabang.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Starting Kayak on the Nam Ou River at 10:00 am (13:30) from Ban Pak Ou or Ban Hat Kho (depending on the level and physical strength) We enjoy a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside and see a wonderful nature built limestone cliffs called Pha Aen.

Upon arrival at the confluence of two rivers, Pak Ou, we visit the famous Pak Ou Caves. We will explore the Buddha caves with guide about 30 min. (Full day tour will have a lunch break there)

We start the second course of the kayaking on the Mekong River. We paddle down the Mekong for 30 minutes until we ended our Kayak at Manifa Elephant Camp. We can take a shower and relax in their garden overlooking the Mekong river.

We then take a car or boat (optional sunset cruise) back to Luang Prabang. Along the way, we stop at Ban Xang Hai village, where the local rice wine is produced. Return to your accommodation or city center at around 2 pm (half day), 4-5 pm (full day). 6 pm (Sunset cruise)

In the morning, we will pick you up in the hotel lobby sometime before 9am. The first half of the day is spent visiting the museum at the former Royal Palace and the monasteries of Vat Xieng Thong, Vat Saen and Vat Visoun.

1: Pak Ou Caves

7:45-08:30 Being picked up from your hotel in Luang Prabang center or our Laos Group Tours Office in Luang Prabang on Night Market street then take about 45 minutes bus trip along the Mekong river to the Pak Ou cave where we will get on a slow boat to visit Pak Ou cave.
After visiting the cave we get back to the van then transfer to Ban Xiang Hai where the most local wine named Lao Lao been made.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Pick up time at 9:00-9:30 AM, we drive to southeast of Luang Prabang and arrive at our starting point Long Lao Village where Khmu and Hmong people live together. After visiting the hillside village, we enter into jungle forests. Trekking across rice paddies, the orchards, farm land and forest, we will see the beauty scenery of Luang Prabang countryside on the way. As we continue to trekking, we reach the mountainous jungle and find natural springs which are source of Kuang Si Waterfalls.

3-4 hours of trekking take us to the crystal clear Kuang Si Waterfalls. Lunch break at a restaurant. We explore the three layered Kuang Si waterfall walk the trails of the nature reserve and swim in the refreshing turquoise water pools and also visit the Bear Rescue Center.

In the late afternoon, we drive back to Luang Prabang. On your way back you will stop at the resettlement village of the Hmon people. Back to your accommodation or city center between 5:30-6:00 PM.

1: Kuang Si Falls

The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three levelled waterfall about 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Luang Prabang. These waterfalls are a favourite side trip for tourists in Luang Prabang. The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside. These lead to the main fall with a 60 metres (200 ft) drop.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Enjoy a unique spin on Luang Prabang sightseeing! On this 1-hour experience, youll get familiar with the basics of caring for our horses and take a ride through one of the nearby villages. We will take you on a guided tour of our stables and introduce you to the horses that youll be riding. Get familiar with these animals while learning the proper grooming techniques. WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Kuang Si Falls

Customers are picked up from their hotel at around 8 am by our team of biking professionals for a joint bicycle tour from downtown Luang Prabang to the Kuang Si Falls. Within no time, you have left downtown and almost follow paved roads towards one of the regions most soothing and relaxing natural spots.

Located 30 kilometres south of the city, the Kuang Si Falls is a three-tiered waterfall with a total drop of 60 meters from to bottom. Using well-maintained bicycles, the ride brings you through forest regions and small settlements of locals as we meander our way with little traffic to this sanctuary of serenity. Upon arrival, you will have the chance to take a dip in one of the turquoise-coloured pools (some are closed as they are considered sacred) or simply rest after a gentle ride in the Laotian countryside. Paths and trails around the falls offer good hiking opportunities for those in need of more activity.

2: Luang Prabang

We head back to Luang Prabang by driving to one of the boat landings along the Mekong. Instead of taking our bikes back, we make our way to our overnight address by cruising downstream and getting a different perspective of nature-rich Luang Prabang. The boat ride is short but a very pleasant one. Upon arrival at the main pier, disembark your vessel after thanking the captain for the safe journey and we ensure that you are brought back to your resort.

1: The Living Land Farm

This charming community farm just outside of Luang Prabang overlooks wonderful Rice Fields and Mountains. Rice is planted all year round and they welcome guests who want to learn about Rice planting and other farm activities like bamboo weaving, sugar cane pressing, black smithing. The half day programme starts at 08.30 and finishes with a tasting of rice based snacks. After farming experience, we have lunch in the farm (a selection of typical Luang Prabang dishes and fruit.)

1: Alms Giving Ceremony

[5:30 am opition only] In Buddhism, alms or almsgiving is the respect given by a lay Buddhist to a Buddhist monk, nun, spiritually-developed person or other sentient being. It is not charity as presumed by Western interpreters. It is important to know the ceremony is also a spiritual practice to accumulate good karma for those who give the alms. It is closer to a symbolic connection to the spiritual realm and to show humbleness and respect in the presence of the secular society. The act of almsgiving connects the human to the monk and what he represents.

The morning alms giving is a living Buddhist tradition for the people of Luang Prabang which, because of its beauty, has become a major tourist attraction. However, when tourists are unaware of its customs their inappropriate behaviors can be disruptive.

2: The Morning Market

[5:30 opition tour only] I Following alms giving, we visit a local morning market. Luang Prabang morning market lining a couple of quiet streets near the Royal Palace, starts early and is over by mid-morning. It sets up along a couple of side-streets next to one of the citys many Wats. A butcher and some of the more touristy stalls have actual tables for their wares. But most of the vendors, selling anything from rice, to fresh vegetables, to steamed fish, frogs, and anything else that might be the days catch, just set up on the ground.

We go back to your accommodation and have a free time for breakfast until 8:30 am.

3: Riverview Park

The second part of this tour begins at riverview park on the peninsula tip. You will have a brief introduction to Luang Prabang, standing where the Nam Khan River meets the Mekong River. From there, walk to the famous Wat Xieng Thong temple.

4: Wat Xiengthong

Wat Xiengthong was considered the ceremonial gateway to the city and was the arrival and departure point for foreign dignitaries for centuries. We will walk up the stairs to the main gate and enter the temple like ancient dignitaries.

Wat Xieng Thong, once known as The Temple of the Golden City, holds great cultural, historic and architectural importance. It is serenely situated near the tip of the peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, with a grand staircase leading up from the Mekong. (Entrance fee 30,000 kip)

5: Wat Sensoukharam

Next, we will go temple hopping in the neighborhood. At Wat Sene, where there is a school for novice monks, you may meet again with novice monks you met on the morning alms. The temple was built in 1718 by King Kitsarath with 100,000 stones from the Mekong river. It literally means "Temple of 100,000 treasures"

6: Royal Palace Museum

[The museum is closed on the last Thursday of every month and cannot be visited] We will visit the Royal Palace. The Royal Palace, which is today the national museum and built by French colonialists between 1904-09, displays a lovely collection of the artefacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture. A unique little village on the banks of the Mekong River. Ban Xang Hai, is also known as whisky village, is famous for their handicraft products like distilling and selling whisky, hand woven fabric and jewelry.

2: Pak Ou Caves

These two caves are located some 25km from Luang Prabang where the Nam Ou River flows into the Meking. The journey on a slow moving longboat to caves is decidedly picturesque. Motoring upriver you can see locals fishing and listen to the joyful laugher of children splashing in the water. The caves are revered throughout Laos and a very popular place for tourists and pilgrimsalike. There are some 4000 statyes abd statyettes in the caves, mostly of the Buddha, many stukk covered with paper thin gilding. The first cave is reached by a steep staircase from the rivers edge, while the second cave is a little deeper inside the mountain: bring a torchilight!

3: Kuang Si Falls

The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three levelled waterfall about 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Luang Prabang.

Upon reaching falls, relax and enjoy the magnificent natural surroundings. The water tumbles down and cascades gently into several cool, clear pools where you can enjoy a refreshing swim. The adventurous may walk to the top of the falls via a steep track where stunning views are awaiting them. Kuang Si Waterfalls also is a place where a rescue center for protecting sunbears, the endangered species, is located.

In the afternoon, join in a traditional game of petanque with the locals. As the sun sets over Wat Prabat Tai youll join the local players and try your skills at this sport, a favorite pastime of the Lao people. They will cheer you on and give you hints as you play a few games and enjoy snacks and drinks. A great time for adults and kids alike with great local interaction opportunities. You'll then continue on to the local hill tribe market which sells a range of crafts, and products from all over the country, and wander through the nighttime food markets, selling many local delicacies. Enjoy dinner on the banks of the Mekong at a Sindat restaurant. Sindat is a Lao-style barbecue which is very popular with the locals. After dinner, drinks are at Hive bar. Located at the foot of Mount Phousi, Hive Bar is a popular spot for backpackers, locals and expats. Its outdoor seating is beautifully surrounded by lush forest and decorated with an assortment of recycled goods. Modern and alternative music is played and many creative cocktails are on offer. WHAT TO EXPECT
Being picked up from your hotel or our Laos Group Tours office in the old quarter then taking the car for the tour to the nearby morning market very popular for fresh vegetable, fish from the Mekong River, medicinal plant and other curiosity.

From there cross: The Wat MaiSuwannaphumaram Monastery built in late 18th century founded by King Anurat (r. 1795-1817) in 1796 and restored in 1821 by the King Manthatourat.

Walk to: The Royal Palace Museum called as Haw Kham the Golden Hall, builds between 1904-1909 blend of Laotian and French Beaux Arts architectural as the new official royal residence for the monarchs of Luang Prabang and converted into a Museum in 1976.

Discover the Colonial Architecture, on the way to the Wat Xieng Thong one of the most beautiful temple in the town. Wat Xieng Thong Ratsavoravihanh built in 1560 - 16th century by The King Setthathilat to commemorate the memory of the Chanthaphanith and Jataka stories from Buddhist cosmology. Xieng Thong Ratsavoravihanh the "Golden City or Golden Tree Monastery" is the most historically significant and impressive of Luang Prabang's temples a typical Lao Architecture of Luang Prabang.

Next, we visit The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre which collects, preserves, and interprets the traditional arts and lifestyles of the countrys many and diverse ethnic groups with professional exhibitions on the ethnic cultures of Laos, and a museum shop promoting handicrafts from village artisans.

Then, we go to UXO Lao Visitors Center. In here, you will have a chance to visit and watch some wonderful short movies about the unexplored ordnance, for what Lao PDR is the most heavily bombed country, per capita, in history.

The City tour finish then you will have Lunch by your self.

1:30 PM In the afternoon our driver will come to pick you to visit Kuang si waterfall, at the falls you can take a dip into the dazzlingly blue waters in the Kuang Si Waterfalls, where you can lay back and see the white limestone cliffs shining. Bear rescue center is located inside Kuang si falls.
