WHAT TO EXPECT

Starting Kayak on the Nam Ou River at 10:00 am (13:30) from Ban Pak Ou or Ban Hat Kho (depending on the level and physical strength) We enjoy a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside and see a wonderful nature built limestone cliffs called Pha Aen.

Upon arrival at the confluence of two rivers, Pak Ou, we visit the famous Pak Ou Caves. We will explore the Buddha caves with guide about 30 min. (Full day tour will have a lunch break there)

We start the second course of the kayaking on the Mekong River. We paddle down the Mekong for 30 minutes until we ended our Kayak at Manifa Elephant Camp. We can take a shower and relax in their garden overlooking the Mekong river.

We then take a car or boat (optional sunset cruise) back to Luang Prabang. Along the way, we stop at Ban Xang Hai village, where the local rice wine is produced. Return to your accommodation or city center at around 2 pm (half day), 4-5 pm (full day). 6 pm (Sunset cruise)

Enjoy a unique spin on Luang Prabang sightseeing! On this 1-hour experience, youll get familiar with the basics of caring for our horses and take a ride through one of the nearby villages. We will take you on a guided tour of our stables and introduce you to the horses that youll be riding. Get familiar with these animals while learning the proper grooming techniques. 1: Kuang Si Falls

Customers are picked up from their hotel at around 8 am by our team of biking professionals for a joint bicycle tour from downtown Luang Prabang to the Kuang Si Falls. Within no time, you have left downtown and almost follow paved roads towards one of the regions most soothing and relaxing natural spots.

Located 30 kilometres south of the city, the Kuang Si Falls is a three-tiered waterfall with a total drop of 60 meters from to bottom. Using well-maintained bicycles, the ride brings you through forest regions and small settlements of locals as we meander our way with little traffic to this sanctuary of serenity. Upon arrival, you will have the chance to take a dip in one of the turquoise-coloured pools (some are closed as they are considered sacred) or simply rest after a gentle ride in the Laotian countryside. Paths and trails around the falls offer good hiking opportunities for those in need of more activity.

2: Luang Prabang

We head back to Luang Prabang by driving to one of the boat landings along the Mekong. Instead of taking our bikes back, we make our way to our overnight address by cruising downstream and getting a different perspective of nature-rich Luang Prabang. The boat ride is short but a very pleasant one. Upon arrival at the main pier, disembark your vessel after thanking the captain for the safe journey and we ensure that you are brought back to your resort.

1: The Living Land Farm

This charming community farm just outside of Luang Prabang overlooks wonderful Rice Fields and Mountains. Rice is planted all year round and they welcome guests who want to learn about Rice planting and other farm activities like bamboo weaving, sugar cane pressing, black smithing. The half day programme starts at 08.30 and finishes with a tasting of rice based snacks. After farming experience, we have lunch in the farm (a selection of typical Luang Prabang dishes and fruit.)

Proceeds from the Rice Experience go to supporting over 60 students with their studies and they operate free English classes for the whole village.

1: Alms Giving Ceremony

[5:30 am opition only] In Buddhism, alms or almsgiving is the respect given by a lay Buddhist to a Buddhist monk, nun, spiritually-developed person or other sentient being. It is not charity as presumed by Western interpreters. It is important to know the ceremony is also a spiritual practice to accumulate good karma for those who give the alms. It is closer to a symbolic connection to the spiritual realm and to show humbleness and respect in the presence of the secular society. The act of almsgiving connects the human to the monk and what he represents.

The morning alms giving is a living Buddhist tradition for the people of Luang Prabang which, because of its beauty, has become a major tourist attraction. However, when tourists are unaware of its customs their inappropriate behaviors can be disruptive.

2: The Morning Market

[5:30 opition tour only] I Following alms giving, we visit a local morning market. Luang Prabang morning market lining a couple of quiet streets near the Royal Palace, starts early and is over by mid-morning. It sets up along a couple of side-streets next to one of the citys many Wats. A butcher and some of the more touristy stalls have actual tables for their wares. But most of the vendors, selling anything from rice, to fresh vegetables, to steamed fish, frogs, and anything else that might be the days catch, just set up on the ground.

We go back to your accommodation and have a free time for breakfast until 8:30 am.

3: Riverview Park

The second part of this tour begins at riverview park on the peninsula tip. You will have a brief introduction to Luang Prabang, standing where the Nam Khan River meets the Mekong River. From there, walk to the famous Wat Xieng Thong temple.

4: Wat Xiengthong

Wat Xiengthong was considered the ceremonial gateway to the city and was the arrival and departure point for foreign dignitaries for centuries. We will walk up the stairs to the main gate and enter the temple like ancient dignitaries.

Wat Xieng Thong, once known as The Temple of the Golden City, holds great cultural, historic and architectural importance. It is serenely situated near the tip of the peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, with a grand staircase leading up from the Mekong. (Entrance fee 30,000 kip)

5: Wat Sensoukharam

Next, we will go temple hopping in the neighborhood. At Wat Sene, where there is a school for novice monks, you may meet again with novice monks you met on the morning alms. The temple was built in 1718 by King Kitsarath with 100,000 stones from the Mekong river. It literally means "Temple of 100,000 treasures"

6: Royal Palace Museum

Enjoy the best views of Luang Prabang at sunset on a private cruise on the Mekong River. Experience a traditional tuk-tuk ride, sail along the Mekong, and enjoy a delicious hot pot dinner. After getting picked up from your hotel by tuk-tuk, head to the boat jetty behind the Royal Palace and set sail for a 2-hour cruise along the Mekong River. In the afternoon, join in a traditional game of petanque with the locals. As the sun sets over Wat Prabat Tai youll join the local players and try your skills at this sport, a favorite pastime of the Lao people. They will cheer you on and give you hints as you play a few games and enjoy snacks and drinks. A great time for adults and kids alike with great local interaction opportunities. You'll then continue on to the local hill tribe market which sells a range of crafts, and products from all over the country, and wander through the nighttime food markets, selling many local delicacies. Enjoy dinner on the banks of the Mekong at a Sindat restaurant. Sindat is a Lao-style barbecue which is very popular with the locals. After dinner, drinks are at Hive bar. Located at the foot of Mount Phousi, Hive Bar is a popular spot for backpackers, locals and expats. Its outdoor seating is beautifully surrounded by lush forest and decorated with an assortment of recycled goods. Modern and alternative music is played and many creative cocktails are on offer. There is a stage outside where they often have live music, hip hop dancing and many other shows.

Being picked up from your hotel or our Laos Group Tours office in the old quarter then taking the car for the tour to the nearby morning market very popular for fresh vegetable, fish from the Mekong River, medicinal plant and other curiosity.

From there cross: The Wat MaiSuwannaphumaram Monastery built in late 18th century founded by King Anurat (r. 1795-1817) in 1796 and restored in 1821 by the King Manthatourat.

Walk to: The Royal Palace Museum called as Haw Kham the Golden Hall, builds between 1904-1909 blend of Laotian and French Beaux Arts architectural as the new official royal residence for the monarchs of Luang Prabang and converted into a Museum in 1976.

Discover the Colonial Architecture, on the way to the Wat Xieng Thong one of the most beautiful temple in the town. Wat Xieng Thong Ratsavoravihanh built in 1560 - 16th century by The King Setthathilat to commemorate the memory of the Chanthaphanith and Jataka stories from Buddhist cosmology. Xieng Thong Ratsavoravihanh the "Golden City or Golden Tree Monastery" is the most historically significant and impressive of Luang Prabang's temples a typical Lao Architecture of Luang Prabang.

Next, we visit The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre which collects, preserves, and interprets the traditional arts and lifestyles of the countrys many and diverse ethnic groups with professional exhibitions on the ethnic cultures of Laos, and a museum shop promoting handicrafts from village artisans.

Then, we go to UXO Lao Visitors Center. In here, you will have a chance to visit and watch some wonderful short movies about the unexplored ordnance, for what Lao PDR is the most heavily bombed country, per capita, in history.

1: Wat Xiengthong

We will pick you up at 8:30 and take you to a small park on the peninsula tip. You will have a brief introduction to Luang Prabang, standing where the Nam Khan River meets the Mekong River. From there, walk to Wat Xieng Thong, the most revered temple in the country. Learn from your guide the typical architecture of the Luang Prabang style temples with their spectacular low sweeping roofs. Join local pilgrims for a glimpse into the daily Buddhist beliefs of the people.

2: Royal Palace Museum

Next, we will go temple hopping in the neighborhood. At Wat Sene, where there is a school for novice monks, you may meet again with novice monks you met on the morning alms. Every item tells a storyso you will learn quite a lot from your guide about Lao history and about Laos royal.

The morning tour ends with a climb up Phousi Hill. Rising 150m in the centre of town, you enjoy spectacular 360 degree views across the city and its many temples, and over the surrounding landscape to the mountains in the distance. You will have lunch and visit Pak Ou Caves. We arrive at a small boat landing dock where stairs lead you straight to the cave. After visiting the caves, the boat will enter the Ou River to see the spectacular limestone cliffs. Then a 30-minute boat ride down the Mekong River will take us to Whisky village. Where the Nam Ou (Ou River) and Mekong River meet at Ban Pak Ou, two famous caves in the limestone cliff are crammed with myriad Buddha images. In the lower cave a photogenic group of Buddhas are silhouetted against the stunning riverine backdrop. The upper cave is a five-minute climb up steps (you'll need a torch), 50m into the rock face. The Kuang Si Falls has 3 tiers leading to a 50-metre drop into shallow pools, before flowing downstream. The pools make great swimming holes and you can change into your swimwear at wooden huts close to the waterfalls entrance.

Kuang Si Falls Butterfly Park, 300m before the Kuang Si waterfall, was opened in 2014 as a breeding sanctuary for Laos' myriad butterflies. 1: Alms Giving Ceremony

Pickup from your accommodation at early morning around 5:15 am in March to October and 5:45 in November to February. We rise early to observe the sunrise procession of monks receiving alms and experience offering food to monks. Morning Alms (Sai Bat) is a longstanding tradition in Laos Buddhist culture, and is very unique to Laos. Laos is the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession.

2: The Morning Market

After morning alms, we visit Luang Prabang morning market. The market lining a couple of quiet streets near the Royal Palace, starts early and is over by mid-morning. It sets up along a couple of side-streets next to one of the citys many Wats. A butcher and some of the more touristy stalls have actual tables for their wares. But most of the vendors, selling anything from rice, to fresh vegetables, to steamed fish, frogs, and anything else that might be the days catch, just set up on the ground.

Luang Prabang, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site for its unique blending of traditional Lao and European colonial influences in its architecture and culture, was the capital of the Lane Xang kingdom from the 14th to 16th centuries, as well as the center of Buddhist worship in the region.

Old quarter setting on a peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, encircled by verdant mountains, offers a natural beauty that is complemented by the craftsmanship of Louangphrabangs palaces, temples, and traditional houses.

10: Mount Phousi

Mount Phousi is a 100 m high hill in the centre of the old town, located on the peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. As the highest point in town, it boasts the towns famous and favourite panoramic view. On the summit, the shiny golden stupa of Wat Chom Si sits firmly and greets visitors to the mountain. It was built in 1804 during the reign of King Anourouth and has become a symbol of Luang Prabangs spiritual significance. (Entrance fee 30,000 kip)
