Spend a day cycling along the country roads. 35 km easy day ride with an adventurous to a working tea plantation in Akuressa. This is a relatively leisurely journey with 2 or 3 small uphill climbs (make no mistake though you should be relatively fit!). We start our tour at 8.30 am for Morning Departure. After a short briefing, you start the tour with our experienced English-speaking local guide who takes you on a journey along the main roads through a small local village 18 km away from our office.

You will also experience the local biodiversity in Sri Lanka- working tea plantation, tropical palms, ferns and lots of coconut trees. Throughout this journey, you will pass through lush green paddy fields, a big part of people's lives here in south Sri Lanka. A short journey on the main road and a stop for a refreshing king coconut winds down your tour before you get the local village.

We keep our mountain bike at the local house and 15 minutes walk to the river where you can enjoy a dip in freshwater fed from the Hiyare rainforest. After you have your local lunch from the local house we head back 17 km to our office.

Our morning dives start every day at 9 am and our afternoon dive(s) start every day at 2 pm.

4: Stilt Fishermen Sri Lanka

Stilt fishing is one at the most interesting traditional fishing methods of Sri Lanka the fishermen sit on a cross bar 'petta" tied to a vertical pale and fixed in to the sand a few meters offshore. From this high position, the fishermen casts his line and wails until a fish comes. However the approach looks primitive and ancient. Some of the fishermen are quite happy to show how they fish, and speak about their lives.

1: Galle Dutch Fort

You will be picked up from your hotel In Hikkaduwa,Dodanduwa,Ginthota,Galle,Unawatuna,Talpe or Koggala and transfer to visit OLD DUTCH FORT GALLE. The fort was built to ensure protection and preservation of the city the Portuguese in early 16th Century and then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. Originally the fort was an earthen structure with palisades, a rampart and three bastions and a moat surrounding it. Under the control of the Dutch, they built impregnable fortifications with coral and granite stones and the Fort resembled a small laid out walled town with a rectangular grid pattern of streets full of low houses with gables and verandas.

Next stop is Japanese peace pagoda the peace pagoda on Rumasalla Hill is one of three Buddhist stupas in Sri Lanka. Stupas are monuments that serve as beacons of peace for people of all nationalities and creeds, and the clean, rounded design of the Unawatuna pagoda exemplifies this. Visitors can walk or drive the shaded path to the Peace Pagoda and they will be rewarded with a towering, white bell-like structure surrounded by gold-painted statues. Sets of steps also lead to a walkway encircling the shrine which offers a 360-degree view of the jungle and bay.

Meet your guide outside Galle Fort and enter the UNESCO-listed colonial-era fortification, arranged like a small town with maze-like cobbled streets of museums, shops, and restaurants.

Your guide has a long family history in Galle, so is well-versed in its history and culture. As you stroll, hear fascinating background on the key landmarks and everyday life in the fort and city.

Originating as a port in 1,400 BC, Galle was captured and fortified by the Portuguese in the 1500s. In the 1600s, the Dutch captured the fort, constructing stone ramparts, a church, storm drains, and additional buildings. The British then arrived in 1796, adding further buildings, and in 1938, the Galle Lighthouse.

Wander the pretty streets and admire the Dutch-era buildings. View the low, gabled houses, original Dutch street names, and churches, government buildings, and monuments. Then, tour the main museums to see artifacts associated with the fort's and Galle harbor's history.

As you explore, break for a Ceylon tea or king coconut milk (both own expense), and stride along the ramparts to Galle Lighthouse, a replica of the beacon first built by the British.

The natural harbor of Galle was famous as far back as 1400 BC. At that time it was one of the main ports in the world from which cinnamon was exported. The arrival of the Portuguese marked a change in the history of the town. They made Galle their headquarters and destroyed many important monuments which were in the area. The initial earth and palisade fort built by the Portuguese was expanded on by the Dutch, after their takeover of the Portuguese assets in the 17th century. The Dutch Fort was highly advanced with high stone ramparts and many bastions. They also built many other buildings for administration and residency. The Dutch made renovations to the streets and added advancements such as storm water drains.oday much of the Dutch fort still stands, contradicting the ravages of time. The history seeped streets of Galle retain their life and originality. You will be able to climb up to the ramparts of the fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and walk through the streets.
