Qingtiangang Grassland (Pass by)

NOTE: THE EXTENDED ROUTE STARTS HERE.

We will start in Qingtiangang grassland with its water buffaloes. This flat area will serve as a warmup area to transition to our next section.

Lengshuikeng (Pass by)

NOTE: THE STANDARD ROUTE STARTS HERE.

Coming from Qingtiangang, we'll pass through another forest that includes the Lengshuikeng pond and the Jingshan suspension bridge. In the background we'll start to see our next section: Qixingshan mt.

Qixing Mountain (Pass by)

Yangmingshan National Park is one of the nine national parks in Taiwan and home to a big number of diverse fauna, flora and hiking trails which give access to several mountains. The most famous one and tallest in north Taiwan being Qixing mountain, with a height of 1,120 meters. In addition, Qixing mountain is the highest non-active (dormant) volcano in all of Taiwan. This national park, within the city limits, has an extension of more than 113 square kilometers. Due to this fact, its easy to find areas with geothermal activity, such as hot springs, steam columns that emerge from the ground and sulfur deposits while walking around the park. Its valleys, cherry blossom and numerous trails are also famous.

Xiaoyoukeng Recreation Area (Pass by)

Coming down from Qixingshan mt. we'll finish the hike in Xiaoyoukeng, a post-volcanic geological landscape, famed for the fumaroles, sulfur crystals and spectacular landslide terrain.

From here we'll take a 30 minute break while our hiking guide comes back with our private transport and refreshing drinks to go back to the city (and your hotel in Taipei).

In the morning we will depart from Keelung port and head to Taipei, where we'll visit the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, a mausoleum to the former dictator who ruled Taiwan for decades and that is located next to the majestic buildings of the National Theater and the National Auditorium.

From our previous stop we'll head to the Longshan Temple, the oldest in the city and where we will enjoy its unique atmosphere.

One of Taiwans most recognized landmarks is the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper, completed in 2004 and the worlds tallest building until 2009. The observation deck on the top floors of the building offers 360º views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Not surprisingly, Taipei 101 resides in the business district of Taipei, surrounded by Taiwans most expensive and luxurious apartments and the highest concentration of shopping malls in the world. At first glance, youd never believe that just 60 years ago, this area was entirely rice fields! In this tour, we will show you around Xinyi District, and share its vibe and history.

We'll stop for a lunch break in this world acclaimed xiaolongbao restaurant inside Taipei 101.

5: 44 South Military Village

After visiting very modern Taipei 101, we'll walk to get a peek at the past through a collection of old buildings still remaining, their distinct architecture reminiscent of simpler days gone by. We will stroll around 44 South Village, Taipeis very first military dependents village, to discover the history of the Chinese military and their families who took refugee in Taiwan on late 40s.

6: Dihua Street

After visiting the military village and, if we still have time (depending of departure of your cruise), we'll head to discover the historic Dadaocheng district, which has the highest number of traditional businesses in Taipei. Chinese medicine shops, traditional spice stores, and handicrafts fill the streets. Here, we will visit the City God Temple, the fabric market, and a famous tea house.

Finally we will visit the photographic town of Jiufen. This small town is located on the mountainside, and enjoys stunning views of the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Jiufen houses a market along its main street, where we can sample local delicacies such as pineapple cupcakes or a meatloaf with rice paste and visit the workshops and shops of artisans who have settled in Jiufen. The town is famous for the traditional tea houses hidden in its winding alleys, and for the red lanterns decorating its streets, which infuse Jiufen with a special charm.
