May - October (Rainy Season)

The rainy season, May through October, are warm, but also very humid, especially in the lower regions including Tikal and Petén. Road travel can be disrupted due to roads getting washed out or blocked by rockfalls, public transport becomes a lot less reliable, and journeys that normally take a couple of hours can sometimes take a better part of the day. Power outages are also more common due to heavy downpours. The rain starts to ease come October, and showers tend to be confined to the afternoons.

This is a great time if you are looking to travel with fewer tourists, and the landscapes are especially lush and green. Just be prepared for afternoon downpours, particularly in the highlands and rainforest regions, that can affect hiking and outdoor excursions. Enjoy outdoor activities in the morning while it's sunny and before the rain comes.
