December - February (Winter)

For ski lovers and winter adventurers, December - February are prime months to visit Azerbaijan. The season peaks in January, with top resorts like Shahdag and Tufandag offering well-groomed slopes, modern lifts, and plenty of snow fun.

Shahdag, in the Qusar region, is the country’s largest resort, with nearly 20 miles of trails and accommodations ranging from luxury hotels to cozy lodges. Tufandag, near Gabala, provides a quieter escape, with scenic cable cars and stunning views of the Greater Caucasus.

Baku rings in the New Year with fireworks, and deeper cultural traditions start stirring in January with early Novruz traditions, such as bonfires, fortune-telling and the baking of special pastries such as paxlava and shekerbura in towns across the country.
