October and November

During this time of year, the Maha (northeast) monsoon season hits the east coast and the cultural triangle, beginning in November. This brings heavy rains to the eastern and northern portions of the island. This time period offers a good balance of weather conditions across different regions of the country, with fewer tourists. Some of Sri Lanka’s best beaches are located along the southern coast, including Galle, Mirissa, and Mawella, however, this region can experience heavy rains in October. The best beach weather occurs from late November through April.
