Algiers
The old town of Algiers is probably one of the most beautiful sites in the Mediterranean. Its 'medina' Arabic for city, is unique with its Ottoman palaces, ancient mosques and a very dense and communal urban structure. Moreover, the capital city and chief seaport of Algeria is known for the 'Casbah of Algiers' with the remains of the citadel, old mosques and Ottoman-style palaces. Albert Camus, a French philosopher, author, and journalist, born in Algeria, is probably the most famous personality of the country. One of the main attractions in Algiers is the urban landscape itself. The historical city of Algiers has plenty of Haussmann style buildings to admire and numerous walking streets to have a stroll and explore the street scene.
