To the East of the Gobustan Museum is a group of active volcanoes Dashgil. You will be able to visit and closely climb the crater of mud volcanoes itself and watch the bubbling of liquid clay. A beautiful landscape, as if you are on the planet Mars (scientists have drawn an analogy and the surface in the area of Gobustan is very similar to the surface of the planet Mars) and the constant mud gurgling creates a feeling of unearthly surface.

2: Qobustan

Jeep tour of the reserve Kichik dash. You will find yourself on another planet-a mystical place, on the territory of which more than 2 thousand megaliths (huge boulders of stones) of different sizes are scattered. Some of them formed caves and grottoes where primitive people formed their first encampments. A large number of rock paintings and ancient inscriptions. You will have a unique opportunity to climb the mountain itself by jeep (176 m) and observe the beautiful scenery of the Caspian Sea and the Gobustan highlands. At the top of the mountain, you will witness the destruction of rocks, which last for about 10 thousand years.

2) An open air Museum
In mountains of Gobustan Beyukdash there were concentrated witnesses of the past of azerbaijanian nation of the epoch of Stone Age and ongoing periods rocky paintings, camp of man, tombstones and etc. The most significant of them are rocky pictures petroglyphs, carved by primitive men on walls of caves, rocks and stony lumps. The aforesaid primitive monuments of art reflect culture, economy, world outlook, customs and traditions of ancient azerbaijanian peoples.

1: Qala Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Complex

The Gala State Historical Ethnographic Reserve is a complex of museums in Baku, Azerbaijan. The area of the museum extends to approximately 2 hectares. It is located in Gala, 40km far from Baku and bears the name of this district. Gala-State Historical Ethnographic Reserve is devoted to the history of the Absheron Peninsula.The reserve was established in the year of 2008 under the auspices of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. This impressive open-air park-museum features several furnished, traditional-style Absheron buildings such as a house, blacksmith's forge, potters' workshop. Some are originals while others are reconstructions, and all are set amid a wide range of archaeological finds and petroglyphs. There's minimal shade so visiting in mid-summer can be exhausting.Three different types of museums: Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography (open-air), Castle Museum (partly open-air), and the Museum of Antiques are located on the territory of the reserve.

2: Mardakan Castle

Mardakan castle is a quadrangular historic castle located in Mardakan, Baku. It is one of the most noticeable castles in Mardakan. The castle was built in the middle of the 12th century by Akhsitan I, son of the Manuchihr III. It was erected after the victory of Akhsitan I. The castle was used as a shelter and observation point of feudals.The castle was built in a quadrangular form. It is divided into 5 tiers. The castle consists of 6 rooms. The inner courtyard of the castle is 28×25 m. The height of the tower is 22 meters. The thickness of it is 2.10 meters at lower part and 1.60 meters at upper portion. There are 76 stairs in the castle.
Mardakan- Round Tower. Round Tower is a castle located in Mardakan near Baku. The castle is also called Shikh fortress by local residents. At the top of the gate of the tower, there are three inscriptions written in Arabic on a large rectangular stone layer. The fortress surrounding the tower consists of a square-shaped yard, surrounded by stone walls, seven meters high on each side. At the corners of the fortress wall, there are towers, railing, and watchtowers. The tower is round in the plan and it gets narrow upward.

3: Ramana Castle

Ramana is one of the oldest villages of Baku. Allegedly it has been found by Roman troops. But later in 18th century it became a property of khans of Afshar origin from South Azerbaijan. During late 19th and early 20th century, the village was producing industrially huge volume of oil. Though it is dormant, there area is still operated by SOCAR.There are two stairs for walking up to the tower walls. It is possible to walk up by spiral stairs from the inner side of the tower to a corridor, which was built about 3 meters (outside of the tower. The other stone stair walks up to the upper side of the tower from the garden. By means of these stairs, it is possible to walk up to the tower walls and look at the village.
The population of these villages still preserve local traditions and social conventions communally. This is to say that you'll definitely invitation for dinner. But of course you should kindly reject it.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Ateshgah - Fire Temple

The temple of fire worshippers Ateshgah is located at the Apsheron peninsula at the outskirts of Surakhani village in 30 km from the centre of Baku and was revered in different times by Zoroastrians, Hindus and Sikhs. This territory is known for such unique natural phenomenon as burning natural gas outlets (underground gas coming onto surface contacts oxygen and lights up). The temple in its present state was constructed in the 17th-18th centuries. It was built by the Baku-based Hindu community related to Sikhs. Pentagonal complex has an open courtyard with temple-altar in the center which was the place of pilgrimage for worshippers.

2: Mardakan Castle

Mardakan Quadrangular Castle (12th century)
This imposing rectangular fortress was built in 118788 by order of Ahsitan I, son of Shirvanshah Manuchehr III, to commemorate a military victory. A carved inscription with his name and the date can still be seen on its main tower. The structure stands 22 meters tall and features five internal levels connected by a spiral staircase. Its about a century younger and 10 meters taller than the nearby Round Castle.

Tuba-Shakhi Mosque (15th century)
Located in Mardakan village, this mosque is a rare example of Northern Azerbaijani religious architecture. Built in the 15th century, it was named after a woman who commissioned its construction a testament to the important role women sometimes played in public life during that time.

3: Yanar Dag

One of the most famous and popular tourist places of the "eternal flame in Azerbaijan is the mountain of Yanar Dag. Actually, it is rather a hill than a mountain, with natural gas burning on its slope from ancient times. Meter-long tongues of fire are licking the stratified earth approximately for 10 m in width, searing those who approached too close. People occupy the benches to watch the blazing hill in the evening, when its sight is most effective. Yanar Dag is located 25 km to the north from Baku. From the year 2007 Yanar Dag is declared a state-protected conservation area

Start from: Baku Old City.
The tour will start from the entrance of Double Gates which is also called Gosha Gala Gapisi. Your guide will explain brief historical information about Baku city from the first settling period of Baku to the modern period. Guests will walk through the narrow cobblestone paved streets in Old City and witness the Medival age's heritage of Baku citizens.

The carpets in the museum were chosen from those that were woven in different ways. Each carpet has a unique weaving method and special patterns. There are over 6000 carpets in the museum. The museum, which contains carpets from various historical periods, offers a very valuable collection to its visitors. Some of the carpets in the museum are carpets such as Karabagh Carpets and Kasmusagh Carpets, which were woven from the 14th century to the 20th century.

1: Gobustan Rock Art

Qobustan it is an ancient place of habitants which live in these areas on the dates of 5,000-40,000 years ago. It is located about about 60 km far from Baku city center. This location included to the UNESCO Heritage list.

Qobustan National Museum will help you to feel the history of first immigrants of these lands. The reserve has more than 6,000 rock engravings dating back between 5,000-40,000 years. The site also features the remains of inhabited caves, settlements and burials, all reflecting an intensive human use by the inhabitants of the area during the wet period that followed the last Ice Age.

Azerbaijan also famous with its Mud Vulcanos which is very rear in the world. We will have a chance to see these Vulcanos which are near to Qobustan Museum. On the way to Gusar -Shahdag, we stop in front of the Beshbarmag, a 382-metre high mountain whose bizarre shape long ago led to it being called "Five-finger Mountain". This is one of the unique natural sites of Azerbaijan, is surrounded by a number of historical and cultural sites such as the settlement attributed to the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age, the Khizirzinda sanctuary, the ruins of a fortress dating back to the early Middle Ages and the remains of a caravanserai of the 15-17th centuries).

2: Shahdag Mountain Resort

The Shahdag Mountain Resort Complex (ahda Turizm Merkezi) opened to the public in 2012. It is located in the Azerbaijan's Greater Caucasus range, the site is located near Shahdag National Park, which is known for having an intact ecological system and an untouched flora and fauna.
With an impressive altitude range of 1,435 to 2,525 meters, it offers the perfect playground for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. This winter wonderland boasts a generous passenger capacity, with the capability to accommodate 25,000 skiers per hour. Ateshgah often called the "Fire Temple of Baku" is a castle-like religious temple in Surakhani town, a suburb in Baku. The pentagonal complex, which has a courtyard surrounded by cells for monks and a tetrapillar-altar in the middle, was built during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was abandoned in the late 19th century, probably due to the dwindling of the Indian population in the area. The Baku Ateshgah was a pilgrimage and philosophical center of Zoroastrians from Northwestern Indian Subcontinent, who were involved in trade with the Caspian area via the famous "Grand Trunk Road". The Temple of Fire "Ateshgah" was nominated for List of World Heritage Sites, UNESCO in 1998

3: Yanar Dag

Yanardag is natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku. Flames jet into the air 3 metres (9.8 ft) from a thin, porous sandstone layer. The reason offered for the Yanar Dag fires is the result of hydrocarbon gases emanating from below the earth's surface. Alexandre Dumas, during one of his visits to the area, described a similar fire he saw in the region inside one of the Zoroastrian fire temples built around it. Only a handful of fire mountains exist today in the world, and most are located in Azerbaijan. Due to the large concentration of natural gas under the Absheron Peninsula, natural flames burned there throughout antiquity and were reported on by historical writers such as Marco Polo.

People often go there to see these dancing flames which never get extinguished and enjoy a cup of tea at the nearby café. It's a fascinating phenomenon to watch, especially at dusk. It's easy to understand how such eternal fires, fueled from the earth itself, became objects of worship.The appearance of the Zoroastrians in Azerbaijan almost 2,000 years ago is closely connected with these geological phenomena, and, according to one theory, the name "Azerbaijan" itself was derived from the word for "fire" in Persian. The cult of fire worship was paramount throughout the history of pre-Islam in this region.

Old City or Inner City (Azerbaijani: çrihr) is the historical core of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The Old City is the most ancient part of Baku, which is surrounded by walls which were easily defended. In 2007, the Old City had a population of about 3000 people. In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is widely accepted that the Old City, including its Maiden Tower, date at least to the 12th century, with some researchers contending that construction dates as far back as the 7th century.

2: Flame Towers

Flame Towers (Azerbaijani: Alov qülllri) is a trio of skyscrapers in Baku, Azerbaijan, the height of the tallest tower is 182 m (597 ft). The three flame-shaped towers symbolize the element of fire - historically resonant in a region where natural gas flares shoot from the earth and Zoroastrian worshippers saw in a fire a symbol of the divine (notably at the Ateshgah of Baku and Yanar Dag). The buildings consist of 130 residential apartments over 33 floors, a Fairmont hotel tower that consists of 250 rooms and 61 serviced apartments, and office blocks that provide a net 33,114 square meters of office space. The cost of Flame Towers was an estimated US$350 million. Construction began in 2007, with completion in 2012.

3: Highland Park

Highland Park, well known as Viewing Square, and earlier in Soviet-era as Sergei Kirov park is one of the most favourite places in Baku to have a walk, rest, and enjoy the sea view. There you can take rest by breathing fresh air, viewing the city, drinking tea in the Highland Park Café, while listening to the classic lounge music. Its the best place to relax, that is located right in the heart of Baku.

4: Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum

Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum is located in Baku that displays Azerbaijani carpets and rugs of various weaving techniques and materials from various periods. It has the largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets in the world. It moved to a new building on the Baku's seafront park during 2014 from its former location on Neftchiler Avenue.

5: Little Venice

Little Venice is an area within Baku Boulevard that is made up of man-made waterways. It was built in 1960 but was later expanded in 2012 and consists of a labyrinth of canals interspersed with islands that are connected by stone bridges complete with gondolas plying the canals. It was out of season and the canals were being dredged when we visited in November 2019. Little Venice isn't meant to be strictly authentic but it is a fun attraction along Baku Boulevard.

6: Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center

The Heydar Aliyev Center is a 57,500 m2 (619,000 sq ft) building complex in Baku, Azerbaijan designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid and noted for its distinctive architecture and flowing, curved style that eschews sharp angles. The center is named after Heydar Aliyev, the first secretary of Soviet Azerbaijan from 1969 to 1982, and president of Azerbaijan Republic from October 1993 to October 2003.
The logo of the Heydar Aliyev Center also represents a reflection of this idea. The Centers logo symbolizes Azerbaijans forward-looking aspirations, the progress and the future of the country. And the Center bearing the name of Heydar Aliyev has become a symbol of modern Azerbaijan and modern Baku.

Palace of the Shirvanshahs (Pass by)

The Palace of the Shirvanshahs is a 15th-century palace built by the Shirvanshahs and described by UNESCO as "one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture". It is located in the Inner City of Baku, Azerbaijan and together with the Maiden Tower, forms an ensemble of historic monuments inscribed under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments. The complex contains the main building of the palace, Divanhane, the burial-vaults, the shah's mosque with a minaret, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi's mausoleum (the so-called "mausoleum of the dervish"), south of the palace, a portal in the east, Murad's gate, a reservoir and the remnants of a bath house. Earlier, there was an ancient mosque, next to the mausoleum. There are still ruins of the bath to the west of the tomb.

7: Monument to Mirza Alakbar Sabir

A Monument to Mirza Alakbar Sabir was installed in 1958, in Baku, on Istiglaliyyat Street, in a park near Ismailiyya building. Its sculptor was Jalal Garyaghdi, and architects were H.Alizade and A.Ismayilov.
The monument was installed in honor of the Azerbaijani poet Mirza Alakbar Sabir. The first monument was installed in 1922, and made by a sculptor Yakov Keulikhes and architect Y.Syryshev. Heights of pedestal of reinforced concrete sculpture was equal to 3,75 meters, but the figure of the poet was made standing up straight. Not long after it was decided to replace the monument with a new one and a solemn opening ceremony of the new monument to Mirza Alakbar Sabir installed at the place of the former one, was held on April 30, 1958. New bronze monument, made by sculptor Jalal Garyaghdi and architects H.Alizade and A.Ismayilov, was installed on a pedestal of dark polished granite Labrador.

8: Vahid Monument

Statue of Aliaga Vahid was designed in 1990 by Rahib Hasanov and Natig Aliyev with the participation of the architect Sanan Salamzade. The authors skillfully recreated the image of the poet. The bronze of the monument, with its fine finish, is similar to carving on dark wood, which recalls one of the first occupations of Aliaga Vahid, who in his youth went at his fathers feet, becoming a wood carver.
This monument is unique, for there is nothing similar among the Baku, and in general Azerbaijani monuments. The monument is not as simple as the amazing Gazellekhan Vahid. The monument is made in the form of a huge head, as if growing out of the earth. Torso, neck, hair the trunk and branches of the tree, and at the same time it is the intertwining of human figures.

Maiden Tower (Pass by)

The Maiden Tower is a 12th-century monument in the Old City, Baku, Azerbaijan. Along with the Shirvanshahs' Palace, dated to the 15th century, it forms a group of historic monuments listed in 2001 under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments as cultural property, Category III. It is one of Azerbaijan's most distinctive national emblems, and is thus featured on Azeri currency notes and official letterheads.
The Maiden Tower houses a museum, which presents the story of historic evolution of the Baku city. It also has a gift shop. The view from the roof takes in the alleys and minarets of the Old City, the Baku Boulevard, the house of Isa bek Hajinski and a wide vista of the Baku Bay.
The Tower is covered by cloud of mysteries and legends which are rooted to the history and culture of Azerbaijan. Indeed, some epics became a subject for scenario for ballets and theatre's plays.

Martyrs' Lane, Alley of Martyrs or Shidlr Xiyaban formerly The Kirov Park, is a cemetery and memorial in Baku. The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum City of Flying carpets (the first of its kind in the world), where you can see examples of Azerbaijans seven schools of weaving and was created in 1967 and is one of Bakus modern architectural icons.
