OVERVIEW

At the junction of Bosnia and Herzegovina with Montenegro, at the foot of the high mountains of Magli, Volujak and Zelengora, where the inaccessible canyon of the river Sutjeska widens, the settlement of Tjentite was tucked away. The large memorial complex was built on Tjentite in honor and memory of the great Battle of Sutjeska (5th Offensive, "Operation Schwarz"), one of the bloodiest battles fought by partisan forces in 1943 against combined German and Italian troops.

The subsequent development of the activity brought with it decisions for the expansion and construction of a larger complex, which includes: the Sutjeska Battle Memorial, an ossuary, a small brigade amphitheater, the Battle Museum, the Sutjeska Battle Memorial House (Spomen dom) and a number of memorials in the vicinity of Tjentita.

The area of Sutjeska was declared a National Park on January 13, 1962.

The National Park Sutjeska rightfully carries the epithet of the pearls of the Republic of Srpska. The oldest and largest national park in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina extends to 16,052.34 ha, and more than 66% is covered with forests, while the rest are meadows, pastures and tents. Sutjeska National Park is the oldest and largest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is home to the last rainforest in Europe. Moreover, the highest peak of the mountain Magli (2386 meters above the sea level) is also located within the national park and at the same time it is the highest peak in the whole country. Sutjeska is known to the wider public as the site of the Battle of Sutjeska in 1943 during the Second World War.

Zaviajni muzej Travnik was established in 1950. Initially, various buildings in Travnik were used to accommodate exhibits and collections, including the Austro-Hungarian Prison, the Velika Nadbiskupska Gimnazija (Great Archbishop's Gymnasium), the Zadubina brae Fufi building, the Varoka Mosque, and the Eli Ibrahim-paa Madrasa. Since 1972, it has been housed in a building constructed in 1928 for medical and health purposes, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. The bridge took its name from the neighborhood on the left bank of the Miljacka, where Sarajevos Catholics resided. From 1918 to 1993 the structure bore the name, Principov Most (bridge), after Gavrilo Princip, who was only a few meters from this bridge when he assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sofie. This incident, known as the Sarajevo Assassination, led to the beginning of the First World War.

Its hard not to notice Trebevi, with its distinctive peak towering over the south side of Sarajevo. Many generations of Sarajevans used to visit this area by cable car, which ran from Bistrik to the Olympic Bobsled tracks. The cable car was devastated during the war, and it is renovated in 2018. Today, the area is accessible by cable car, by foot or by a 20-minute car/taxi ride along the road to Jahorina via Vraca to reach Brus. Known as the lungs of Sarajevo, Trebevi is the closest mountain that is reachable via the cable car from the heart of Stari Grad (Old Town), from the neighborhood of Bistrik.

1: Stari Grad, Old Town, Travnik

In the Middle Ages the Travnik area was known as the upa Lava province of the medieval Bosnian Kingdom. The area is first mentioned by Bela IV of Hungary in 1244. Travnik itself was one of a number of fortified towns in the region, with its fortress Katel becoming today's old town sector. The city itself is first mentioned by the Ottomans during their conquest of nearby Jajce.

2: Sarena Dzamija

It's hard to miss the Sarena Dzamija (Multi-Colored Mosque), built in 1757. With its bright colors, its unique and intricate artistic details on the outside walls and its carved wood, it is said to be among the most beautiful mosques in the Balkans and the only one in the country that people believe stores hairs of the prophet. It has unusual flower motives painted on the outside, and it is one of only two mosques in Bosnia and Herzegovina in which the prayer room is positioned on the first floor, with the ground floor used to conduct business.

3: Tvrdava Stari grad

Old Fort is one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval fortified buildings in Bosnia on which later historical periods left their distinctive characteristics. In so far known historiography sources, there is no record of the year and the duration of construction, or the builder. Historians agree that the castle was built in the second half of the 14th or the first half of the 15th century. 4: Fortress of Jajce

The fortress of Jajce sits above the town at an altitude of 470m. It is located within the complex of the medieval city that dates back to the 13th century. The fortress, constructed over several centuries, encircles the architectural remains of a mid-15th century castle.

Located in the south-western side of the fortress is a portal with the royal coat of arms. This portal dates back to the time of Tvrtko II and King Stjepan Tomasevic, who moved the royal court to Jajce in 1421.

5: Pliva Waterfall

At 17 meters in height, the Pliva waterfall is one of the most notable features of Jajce. This natural monument is located in the very centre of the town and has been named one of twelve most beautiful waterfalls in the world. It is also the only waterfall in the world to create an estuary as it joins the Pliva River with the Vrbas River. Whether you are standing beneath it or looking down from above, the Pliva waterfall creates a spectacular view!

No longer used for actual milling, the Pliva Lakes watermills draw tourists down the river from the giant waterfall in town. That one is certainly impressive with its showy 65-foot drop. We provide free-of-charge hotel pick-up at all the apartments and hotels located in Old Town of Sarajevo or Center of Sarajevo.

If the hotel is in walking zone, we arrange the pick-up nearby the hotel (where it is possible to approach with the car) or kindly ask the guests if they could come to starting point of the tour (if their hotel is less then 5 minutes walk from starting point).

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Bijambare Cave

Bijambare cave is one of the most beautiful caves in Bosnia and Herzegovina located around 40 km away from Sarajevo. After we are there, first we shall take a nice walk through the beautiful combination of oak, beech and pine forest to reach the Bijambare Cave complex. The walk is enriched with plenty of beautiful scenery, small creeks, small lake usually there in spring/winter, fresh air and much more what will make us have a great beginning of the tour.
After we reach Bijambare Caves complex, firstly we will visit Gornja Cave (Upper Cave). Gornja cave is the oldest cave in Bijambare cave area. It is neither a big speleological structure nor beautiful decorations that make Srednja cave so attractive. However it hides in its floor the most important records of the past fauna and mankind prehistory. Also, it is the highest cave in this complex. So great panoramic views are attractions that we shall not miss here.
After Upper Cave we will proceed to Middle Cave and you will be able to explore most beautiful cave in Bosnia with main hall that is bigger than average stadium. In this cave held one wedding ceremony several years ago. Everything went good, except the thing that they didnt predict that there will be pretty cold in the cave. Ladies wearing light dresses couldnt stay long during party.
Later on we will see the Lower Cave and a small lake located in Bijambare Cave complex.

2: Vrelo Bosne

Vrelo Bosne park with Spring of river Bosna will be the perfect ending for this tour. You will enjoy green scenery and plenty of water. Optional would be horse carriage ride through beautiful oak alley where you can find most beautiful villas and houses from period of Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
