WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Avebury Stone Circle

You will be collected from your preferred pick-up point in Bath and will be driven to the small village of Avebury in a private car. Avebury is home to the world's largest stone circle which dates back thousands of years. With your guide you will explore the remains of this ancient stone circle and your guide will explain about its history and the latest discoveries. Unlike Stonehenge, you are free to wander among the stones and touch them. Today the site remains an important spiritual place for people.

2: West Kennet Long Barrow

After exploring Avebury we will continue to the West Kennet Long Barrow which is one of the oldest pre-historic monuments in the country, built over 5,600 years ago! It is a communal tomb which once housed the remains of a number of individuals. Today it is one of the best examples of a pre-historic chambered tomb and should you wish visitors can go inside.

Silbury Hill (Pass by)

During the tour we will pass Silbury Hill - a man-made chalk hill. Built thousands of years ago its exact purpose remains a mystery. It is said that Stonehenge could fit on the top of it!

3: Stonehenge

After lunch we will continue to Britain's most famous pre-historic monument: Stonehenge. Your guide will take you around the Visitor Centre and the ancient stone circle. Your guide will explain about its history, how archaeologists believe it was constructed and will tell you interesting stories behind the site. There will be plenty of opportunities for photos.

7: Bath

After your tour of Bath you will have lunch at a charming English pub.

After lunch you will be driven to a non-for-profit falconry located in a small village near Bath.

The falconry is involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of wild birds of prey as well as education of the ancient art of falconry. Under the guidance of a local falconer you will be introduced to their birds and taken on a short walk into the countryside to have the unique experience of flying a hawk. Your guide will be on hand to help take photos.

You will spend approx. 60 - 90 minutes at the falconry depending on how quickly you feed the hawk! After the experience you will be driven back to Bath.

The falconry experience is not suitable for children under 8 and is subject to favourable weather conditions. In the event of unsuitable conditions there may be the opportunity to fly owls indoors instead. If you prefer to fly owls instead of a hawk please let Bath Insider Tours know in advance.

Start your hunt for the Prince's Golden Statue at The Independent Spirit of Bath, and set off on a unique puzzle adventure through the city's historic streets. On your journey, you will trace the footsteps of the Prince Regent in the lead up to his infamous 50th birthday party, which was held at the world famous Assembly Rooms. As you complete the cryptic puzzles and hunt down the hidden clues, you will visit Bath's most iconic sights, discover its most legendary characters, and enjoy its most atmospheric pubs.

Each clue that you solve allows you to eliminate a potential suspect, invitation number, statue shape, or hiding place, until you are left with all of the information that you need to solve the puzzling birthday mystery!

The tour starts from the Abbey Churchyard in front of the iconic Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, commonly known as Bath Abbey, which is an Anglican parish church and a former Benedictine monastery. Founded in the 7th century, Bath Abbey was reorganised in the 10th century and rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries.

3: The Roman Baths

The Roman Baths are well-preserved thermae in the city of Bath, A temple was constructed on the site between 60-70AD in the first few decades of Roman Britain. According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the original Roman baths were in ruins a century later. The area around the natural springs was redeveloped several times during the Early and Late Middle Ages.

4: Royal Mineral Water Hospital

Construction of this hospital began in 1737, which heralded a new period of faith and scientific belief in the healing properties of Bath's mineral waters.

Queen Square is a square of Georgian houses and is the first element in the architectural sequence in Bath, which includes the Circus and the Royal Crescent. All of the buildings which make up the square are Grade I listed.

6: Assembly Rooms

During the Georgian era, Bath became fashionable, and the architect John Wood, the Elder, and his son laid out new areas of housing for residents and visitors. Assembly rooms had been built early in the 18th century, but a new venue for balls, concerts and gambling was envisaged in the area between Queen Square, The Circus and the Royal Crescent. The new or upper assembly rooms opened with a grand ball in 1771 and became the hub of fashionable society, being frequented by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, along with the nobility of the time.

7: The Circus

The Circus is a historic ring of large townhouses in the city of Bath, Somerset, England, forming a circle with three entrances. Designed by architect John Wood, the Elder, it was built between 1754 and 1768, and is regarded as a pre-eminent example of Georgian architecture. Each segment faces one of the three entrances, ensuring a classical façade is always presented straight ahead.

8: No. 1 Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent is a row of 30 terraced houses laid out in a sweeping crescent in the city of Bath, England. Also designed by the architect John Wood, the Younger and built between 1767 and 1774, it is among the greatest examples of Georgian architecture to be found in the United Kingdom and is a Grade I listed building.

9: Pulteney Bridge

Pulteney Bridge is a bridge over the River Avon. It was completed by 1774, and connected the city with the land of the Pulteney family which it wished to develop. Designed by Robert Adam in a Palladian style, it is highly unusual in that it has shops built across its full span on both sides.

The Guild Hall is an indoor market wander around and you will find some interesting stalls. The market is housed in a beautiful building. The market has been established since 1284.
