Bath

Nowadays it is a fashionable spa resort. The waters from its spring are believed to be a cure for many afflictions and to ease rheumatism. Arguably the greatest writer in the English language was William Shakespeare, who was born in the market town of Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. Now a bustling city of over 25,000 people that sees over two million visitors a year, the Stratford of Shakespeare's day was little more than a village. The main attractions within the town include the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and two contemporary buildings, Hall's Croft (the one-time home of Shakespeare's daughter, Susannah) and New Place, the latter built on the site of an earlier house where the playwright died in 1616. Chester
Founded as a Roman fortress in the 1st century A.D by a Roman legion, Chester is one of the most interesting medieval cities in England. It is also one of the best-preserved walled cities in the country, having two miles of its extensive Roman walls intact. In the old city, the Rows is a shopping district distinguished by 2-level covered arcades and Tudor-style half-timber buildings. A Roman amphitheatre, with ongoing excavations, lies just outside the old city's walls. Numerous pubs and wine bars populate the city, some of which are medieval.
