    Brighton is the oldest and one of the most famous seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. Its broad shingle beach is backed by amusement arcades and Regency-era buildings. Brighton Pier, in the central waterfront section, opened in 1899 and now has rides and food kiosks. The Royal Pavilion is a palace like no other with an Indian-styled exterior and a Chinese-inspired interior. Next door to the Brighton Pier is the Victorian aquarium. The town is also known for its nightlife, arts scene, shopping and festivals, including one of the largest LGBT pride festivals in the country.
