Corpus Christi's early 16th century architecture contains many moving and beautiful figures of animals, including a pious pelican. Corpus Christi is set upon a cobbled street which is listed as a national treasure.

3: Merton College

Merton is Oxford's third College. The original and beautiful 15th century frieze over the gatehouse is one of my favourite creations in the whole of Oxford and tells the tale of the founding of colleges in the universities earlier days. The flying buttresses of the chapel are richly decorated. Thomas Bodley, founder of the Bodleian Library, was a graduate from Merton college. Merton College's library is the oldest continuously surviving library in Oxford.

Oriel college is one of the Universities oldest Colleges and today famous for rowing. Its front Quad with Oriel windows is stunning. It is neighbours with Corpus Christi who famously host the annual tortoise race.

Oxford's iconic bridge belonging to Hertford College. Although it looks like an old Venetian Bridge, it was built in the twentieth century! It is also next to the house of Edmund Halley who had the comet named after him.

We will admire this 17th century home to the ceremonies of Oxford University. Believed to be the first building by Christopher Wren, architect of St Paul's Cathedral in London was Professor of Astronomy at Oxford University.

The History of Science Museum
Built in1683, as a public museum. Wonderful example of restoration Baroque architecture. Today, still a museum,the building houses an exceptional collection of scientific instruments, from the medieval period to the present day. 13: The Divinity School

Completed in 1488, the Divinity School is a stunning display of medieval craftsmanship. One of Oxford's most iconic architectural landmarks, the Divinity School has also been a location for films. Its upper floor is one of the Universitys first purpose-built libraries.

14: Bodleian Library

Built on top of the exquisite medieval Perpendicular Divinity School, the Duke Humphrey Library was built in the fifteenth century to house a gift of over 200 books from the King's brother. Both of these rooms were selected by J.K. Rowling to be used for Harry Potter scenes.

This relaxing 1.5-hour cruise starts in the afternoon from central Oxford and sails downstream from Folly Bridge taking in the best known reach of the River Thames in Oxford.

Traveling down the University Regatta Course passing Christ Church Meadows, the University College Boat Houses and other landmarks on the way to Iffley lock. This is often a busy and vibrant section of the river where training rowing crews, punts and pleasure boats jostle for river space in an wonderful display of Oxford at play. Passing through the lock at Iffley is an experience in itself. The river scenery and fascinating buildings combining to form a picture perfect location.

Beyond Iffley the boat travels in to the tranquil water meadows that surround Oxford and there are abundant opportunities to spot wildlife amongst the green banks and overhanging willows.

PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME AT THE AGREED MEETING POINT:

Please arrive 5 minutes early for your tour at our meeting point. If you arrive more than 5 minutes later than the scheduled tour, then you might forfeit and lose your booking as if your arriving late, as this may interrupt the guide and other customers, if we are trying to find you after a guide has started and left the meeting point.

WE OFFER YOU THE OPTION TO EITHER MEET US in OXFORD TO CATCH TAXI WITH US TO THE PALACE OR TO MEET US AT INSTEAD AT THE PALACE, LOCATED ABOUT HALF HOUR DRIVE AWAY FROM OXFORD CITY.

INFO FOR DRIVERS AND PARKING:

If you are driving, then please allow extra 30-60 minutes over whatever time you think it will take you to get here. Oxford is NOT car friendly and it is congested roads and hard to find parking spaces....unless you park at the sign posted 'park and rides' on edge of town on any major road into the city and hop on their buses into city centre. The park and ride buses leave every 15 or every 30 minutes and take anything from 10 min to 30 min (depending on traffic) to reach city centre. So if you are going to drive, then please assume you should be aiming to park your car about one hour before your tour starts.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

We actually recommend instead using the much faster and reliable train services but again please aim to arrive about an hour or earlier before your tour starts as trains can be delayed and the train and coach station are about 15 minutes walk from our meeting point. There is also the coach service from London called the Oxford Tube which leaves every half hour or more but it can take much longer than its advertised 105 minute journey time. It drops you off either at High street Oxford or Gloucester Green coach station. It's quicker to ask to get off on High street near Carfax tower, then it's a 10 minutes walk to Broad street.

Departing Oxford at 9am we start the day off visiting Burford, often called the Gateway to the Cotswolds. A very iconic town and home to one of the most beautiful and ancient churches in the region. Stories aplenty!

From Burford your route takes you through some enchanting Cotswold villages to Bourton-on-the-Water, which is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds and is arguably the most famous Cotswolds town. Its regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England.

Our next stop is the picturesque village of Lower Slaughter, one of the most romantic villages in the Northern Cotswolds and set in the most amazing countryside. From Lower Slaughter we then continue on to Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. Here you will have time to browse among honey-coloured buildings, cosy pubs, narrow streets, interesting shops and tiny tea rooms. We will also enjoy lunch in one of the many pubs and tea rooms.

2: Minster Lovell

You can see some truly beautifully preserved cottage lanes here and there is also the option to stop for drinks or lunch here too but the main attraction is the ruins of the medieval Minster Lovell manor home and priory.

Pickup details

We highly recommend getting a train from London Paddington to Moreton in Marsh for our guests who intend to stay in London and would like to visit the Cotswold for a day.
However, we will gladly pick up our guests anywhere in the country to bring them to the Cotswolds, although additional charges would be applied.
Any pickups and drop-offs from London will be charged at a fixed rate of £200 each way plus VAT and London congestion charges of £15.

Pickup service from Oxford, Bath and Stratford Upon Avon will be charged at a fixed rate of £50 each way plus VAT.

Your driver guide will meet you in the pick up area outside the front of Oxford Railway Station at 10am. 2: Minster Lovell Hall & Dovecote

A real highlight of the tour which boasts plenty of Cotswold stone and thatched roofs, as well as holding the title of being the region's most haunted village. Minster Lovell is perhaps best known for the ruins of its 15th century hall, owned by generations of the Lovell family. A true hidden gem!

3: Burford

On route we go through some enchanting Cotswold villages to the town of Burford, often called the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds'. A very iconic town and home to one of the most beautiful and ancient churches in the region. Stories aplenty!

4: Bourton on the Water

Our next stop is arguably the most famous Cotswolds town and regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England; Bourton-on-the-Water. Known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' there is plenty to see and do with a wealth of attractions, shops, restaurants and tea rooms. Here you have free time to explore and enjoy some lunch.

5: Lower Slaughter

Our next stop is the picturesque village of Lower Slaughter, one of the most romantic villages in the Northern Cotswolds and set in the most amazing countryside. Larger vehicles are not allowed into this village so we are the only small group tour allowed access.

6: Stow-on-the-Wold Market Square

We often stop at the entrance of exquisite Lincoln college to look at the entry area to the quadrangle and to spot the statue of John Wesley, who studied here, as did the writer of 'Dr Seuss' stories too.

5: Magdalen College

We spend one hour average inside Magdalen college on this tour and this is where CS Lewis taught. It has a medieval hall, a canteen where we can stop for a coffee to enjoy the punting boats passing us by outside. There is a deer park and Addisons walk, which is where CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien walked and talked. Plus there is a medieval hall and chapel plus impressive main quadrangle and the tower.

The entry fee to Magdalen worth £10 is paid for you by the guide.

6: University Church of St. Mary the Virgin

We visit inside and outside here to introduce where CS Lewis preached and developed many of his books from sermons here. We also will see the Mr Tumnis and Aslan lookalike figures outside the church which are alleged to have inspired CS Lewis to write, 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'.

OVERVIEW

Explore the highlights of Oxford's two major art collections, at the Ashmolean Museum and Christ Church Picture Gallery, with an art historian and Sothebys specialist. Join me on a rich and entertaining journey through the history of European art, from Ancient Greece to French Impressionism. On the way, youll discover masterpieces ranging from Uccello's Hunt in the Forest, to Monets Sunset at Sea. Half way through, well have a coffee break at Ashmoleans Rooftop café. Well then walk to Christ Church Picture Gallery, part of Christ Church, one Oxfords most famous colleges, to see masterpieces from their collection of mainly Italian paintings and drawings, including Botticelli's paintings of the Sybils, and Head of Young Woman by Verrocchio, one of the most beautiful drawings that remains from the Florentine Renaissance.
During the experience, you'll be introduced to specialist skills, including spotting painting restorations and identifying 15th century paper.

1: Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology

Travellers will be given an overview of the history of European art from Ancient Greece to Picasso, through focusing on highlights of painting, and sculpture. They'll see masterpieces ranging from the 15th century Paolo Uccello's famous 'Hunt in the Forest', to Picasso's 'Blue Roofs, Paris' painted in 1901, as well as views of Oxford by Joseph Mallord William Turner.

You'll enjoy a coffee and chat in the Ashmolean Rooftop café / restaurant, which has beautiful views of Oxford's spires.
