WHAT TO EXPECT

Make your own way to the pier in central Akureyri to meet your captain and board your small-group RIB (rigid-inflatable boat). Pull on a life jacket, take your seat on a high-speed boat limited to just 12 passengers, and set off into the beautiful Eyjafjorour fjord.

As you cruise along Icelands northern coastline, your guide points out notable landmarks and seabirds, sharing insights about the areas wildlife and natural features. The captain will slow and stop the boat when sightings occur, giving you the best possible chance to observe marine life. With a bit of luck, you may encounter powerful humpback whales, along with white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, and other species that frequent the waters.

After approximately two hours on the water, return to Akureyri, where your tour concludes back at the pier.

Pickup Information If you are arriving in Akureyri by cruise ship, please ensure you have provided us with the name of your vessel, as there are multiple ports in Akureyri. Tangabryggja Port: Just outside the cruise ship area, you will see several small wooden houses. Star Travel is located at house number 3, and we will meet you there. Oddeyrarbryggja Port: Right outside the ship, you will find an Icewear shop. Next to it is the designated agent area where all tour agents wait for their customers. We will be there with a Star Travel sign. Look for one of our colleagues wearing a bright yellow jacket. WHAT TO EXPECT
Lake Mývatn and the surroundings is a must see while exploring the north. First, you will be driven along the coast of Eyjafjordur. Begin by stopping at Goðafoss waterfall on your way to Lake Mývatn. The lake was created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2,300 years ago, and the surrounding landscape is dominated by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and rootless vents.

Stop in Skútustaðagígar (pseudo craters) on the way to the unique lava formations of Dimmuborgir which are among the most popular tourist attractions in the Mývatn area. Also, visit Grjótagjá Rift, an old natural bathing spot filled with naturally heated water coming out of a rift. Stop at Selfoss waterfall and Dettifoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe.

You will have the opportunity to take a bath in the geothermal water (at own expense). After the stop in the nature baths, you will be driven back to Akureyri. Your last stop is in Eyjafjordur where you can see over the fjord to Akureyri.

1: Godafoss

45 minutes drive from Akureyri to the Godafoss waterfall (Goðafoss in Icelandic), one of the most spectacular and historic waterfalls in Iceland. The name means the "waterfall of the gods". The waterfall is about 12 meters high (36 feet) and 30 meters wide (90 feet), and it forms a horseshoe shape that creates a stunning spectacle of water and mist. You will have about 45 minutes to explore the waterfall, take photos of this natural wonder and, if you like, grab a coffee at the Godafoss Coffee Shop.

The trip begins at our boathouse where our friendly and professional guides will provide you with all of the equipment and information needed for tackling our famous glacial rivers. We provide wet-suits, dry tops, helmets, buoyancy aids /life jackets and rafting booties. All you need to bring is your swimsuit, a warm sweater or fleece and a towel.

Once we are all changed we will then drive you into the East valley to our rafting put in. Our trip leader will give a safety brief with all of the relative safety information needed.

We journey 16 km through the East Glacial canyon. We will tackle rapids named: Alarm Clock, Commitment, Screaming Lady and of course the famous Green Room. Depending on the water levels we will also stop for some cliff jumping for those that feel they need a little more excitement.The bus will meet us at the take out where steaming bowls of hot soup are waiting. A scenic and memorable excursion in Iceland to the majestic Godafoss Waterfall. Godafoss is one of the most spectacular and historic waterfalls in Iceland. The name means the "waterfall of the gods". The waterfall is about 12 meters high (36 feet) and 30 meters wide (90 feet), and it forms a horseshoe shape that creates a stunning spectacle of water and mist. You will have about 45 minutes to explore the waterfall and take photos of this natural wonder.

After admiring the waterfall, you will board the bus again and head back to Akureyri but not exactly the same way. You will drive through the beautiful Fnjoskadalur Valley, up to the mountains and down to the Eyjafordur Bay with astonishing view. Tangabryggja Port: Just outside the cruise ship area, you will see several small wooden houses. Star Travel is located at house number 3, and we will meet you there.

Oddeyrarbryggja Port: Right outside the ship, you will find an Icewear shop. Next to it is the designated agent area where all tour agents wait for their customers. We will be there with a Star Travel sign. Look for one of our colleagues wearing a bright yellow jacket.
