1: Cliffs of Moher

The magnificent cliffs of Moher are one of Irelands most spectacular sights, and they reach a height of 700 feet. On a clear day, you can see for miles, and some of the sights include the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, and the hills and valleys of Connemara. On the edge of the cliffs, you can hear the waves crashing as they eat into the sandstone and shale. Youll also get to hear plenty of birds as the Cliffs of Moher are home to lots of different species including puffins, guillemots, gannets, and more. From OBriens Tower, youll be able to take in the magnificent views of the face of the cliffs. Youll also get to spend time in the visitor centre. Included in your Tour is the entrance fees for the Cliffs of Moher.

Set out on a coastal shore walk and foraging tour to learn about and taste edible sea weeds and sea herbs. Visit the abalone farm, learning about sustainable aquaculture farming and see the different sea creatures grown in tanks. WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Cliffs of Moher

Depart Galway in the morning with your local driver-guide, journeying along the Wild Atlantic Way through the Burrens unique landscape to the Cliffs of Moher. Pass charming villages like Clarenbridge, Kinvara, and Ballyvaughan, seeing medieval ruins, castles, stone walls, and scenic harbours. Continue along Clares coast via Black Head and Fanore Strand, witnessing dramatic Atlantic views.

Around 11am, board the ferry at Doolin for Inisheer, the smallest Aran Island. Enjoy a 30-minute crossingwatch for dolphinsthen explore ancient castles, churches, and beaches on the island, with options to hire a bike or pony and trap.

Return by ferry, cruising beneath the towering Cliffs of Moher for a unique perspective. Then, visit the Cliffs summit and eco-friendly visitor centre for at least an hour. Afterward, travel back to Galway via Lisdoonvarna and the Burren, arriving around 6:30pm. Entry fees included.

You will board a boat at Doolin Pier and after a quick 25 mins sailing, you will arrive to Insiheer.

You will embark on a 2 hour guided bike tour of the Island. You will see castles, 4000-year-old ruins, sunken churches and shipwrecks!

Afterward, you will head inside a privately reserved coffee shop for some tea/coffee and scones. Local islanders like to tell stories and answer any questions during this section.

in the river.

Best time to fish is May following on from the Mayfly hatch. It is a legal requirement for all persons venturing out on to Lough Corrib to wear a life jacket.

1: Caherconnell Stone Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations

Caherconnell Stone Fort, situated 1km south of Poulnabrone dolmen in the heart of the Burren Ireland, offers you the opportunity to visit an exceptionally well - preserved example of the stone forts or stone ringforts which are to be found in the Burren Ireland. The fort is in its original state. Its position, overlooking virtually all-surrounding areas suggests a defensive settlement. Archaeological excavations take place each summer in association with 'CAFS' - Caherconnell Archaeological Field School- an International Field School accredited by NUI, Galway. As well as a trip to the Fort, visitors can also take in the Burren's Premier Sheepdog Demonstrations at Caherconnell, enjoying the combined skills of the farmer and the border collie as they work in the natural habitat of the Burren. 1: Aughnanure Castle

Our first castle visit is to Aughnanure Castle. This castle lies in picturesque surroundings close to Lough Corrib and village of Oughterard. Built by the OFlahertys, one of Connacht's most notable lord families in 1500 and standing on what is a rocky island on the shores of Lough Corrib. This castle is a particularly well-preserved example of an Irish tower house. On this visit you will find the remains of a banqueting hall, a watch tower, an unusual double bawn and bastions and dry harbour. Grace OMalley, the notorious west of Ireland sea pirate was married to Donal OFlaherty.

Kylemore Abbey, first founded by English industrialist Mitchell Henry as a present to his wife and now a Benedictine monastery. Clifden Castle (Pass by)

Located on the scenic Sky Road, west of the town of Clifden, Clifden Castle was built in 1812 in the Gothic Revival style by John DArcy (1785 1839), who was the founder of Clifden Town and which is now the capital of the Connemara region of Galway. The estate of Clifden Castle originally covered over 17,000 acres. However, these lands which had been owned by the DArcy family for over 150 years, were lost to the family in the mid-1800s when the family became bankrupt as a result of debts incurred during the Great Potato Famine. The castle has changed hands many times over the years and the land around it has been divided up and sold leading Clifden Castle to fall into ruin in the latter part of the 19th Century. The present day castle has only the stone shell remaining and is partly overgrown with thick ivy.

Ballynahinch Castle (Pass by)

This castle on the lake is steeped in history and is connected to one of the 14 tribes of Galway the Martin family. Richard Martin was the founder of the RSPCA. Another Martin was Edward Martin who was very friendly with WB Yeats and Lady Gregory and later went on to establish the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Please note we view the old original castle on the island on Ballynahich Lough.

Our first castle visit is to Aughnanure Castle. This castle lies in picturesque surroundings close to Lough Corrib and village of Oughterard. Built by the OFlahertys, one of Connacht's most notable lord families in 1500 and standing on what is a rocky island on the shores of Lough Corrib. This castle is a particularly well-preserved example of an Irish tower house. On this visit you will find the remains of a banqueting hall, a watch tower, an unusual double bawn and bastions and dry harbour. Grace OMalley, the notorious west of Ireland sea pirate was married to Donal OFlaherty.

2: Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden

Kylemore Abbey, first founded by English industrialist Mitchell Henry as a present to his wife and now a Benedictine monastery. 3: Sky Road

Sky Road is a panoramic road that starts and ends in Clifden, the capital of Connemara. From Clifden the road heads west and soon you reach a junction between Lower Sky Road and Upper Sky Road. The upper path gradually rises and at the highest point you reach a vantage car park. The view from up here over Clifden Bay and the offshore islands in the Atlantic Ocean is breathtaking.

This castle is steeped in history and is connected to one of the 14 tribes of Galway the Martin family. Richard Martin was the founder of the RSPCA. 1: Galway

Your locally sourced and fully trained driver / guide will take you from Galway on a coastal drive along the Wild Atlantic Way, through the Burren and up to the Cliffs of Moher. En route, you will pass medieval castles, beautiful little villages, fields of dry stone walls and amazing coastal views. 2: Dunguaire Haven

Your first stop of the day is Dunguaire Castle (The Fort of Guaire) on the approach to Kinvara. This medieval tower house castle is one of the most photographed in all of Ireland. You will have a 20 minute stop here to take some photos of the castle. From here you will follow the Wild Atlantic Way through Ballyvaughan past Blackhead and Fanore towards the picturesque village of Doolin.

3: Doolin Pier

The pier in Doolin is a hive of activity during the summer months with ferries coming and going to the Aran Islands. During the summer months, there is an opportunity to join a Cliffs of Moher cruise, beneath the Cliffs of Moher. (Not included). During the winter months, the power of the Atlantic Ocean can be seen as well as felt as the waves crash onto the beach and shoreline.

4: Doolin

Kylemore Abbey, a beautiful Connemara castle, offers much history of romance and tragedy, captivating visitors who step upon its threshold.
The Abbey is a beautiful, neo-gothic, building built-in 1868 by Mitchell Henry for his wife. It is now home to the Benedictine Nuns, and here you can enjoy their excellent home cooking while visiting the Abbey and the restored walled gardens. The grounds and surrounding mountains and lakes are steeped ina rich Irish history, and you can learn all about this on our Connemara & Cong Tour. The Abbey and estate are open all year round and include the Abbey, a Gothic Church, the walled gardens, a craft shop, pottery studio, restaurant and tea rooms, as well as the lake and woodland walks. Please note the Kylemore Abbey is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday on the dates 07.11.23-23.12.23 and 08.01.24-05.02.24.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden

We drive through villages of Moycullen, Oughterard, Maam Cross and Recess. The road takes us through the scenic Inagh Valley surrounded by the majestic Twelve Ben Mountains on your left and the Maumturk Mountains on your right.
Our next destination is Killary Fjord, Irelands one and only fjord. We continue our journey to the other side of the fjord, towards Doolough lake and the magnificent Mweelrea Mountain. From Doolough Valley we turn back for Kylemore Abbey and the Victorian Walled Garden, one of the most iconic locations in Connemara. We then visit Kylemore Castle Estate and see all it has to offer. Lunch at Mitchell's Cafe.
After a hearty lunch you will sit back and enjoy the drive towards Clifden and The Sky Road. We take the spectacular peninsula loop drive to reach the highest point. There you will see unbeatable views of Connemara, the Atlantic Ocean and the islands. The rugged coastline of county Mayo will be to the North and county Clare to the South. There is still much more to see as we descend from the Sky Road and arrive in Clifden, the westernmost town in Ireland. From Clifden, we follow The Wild Atlantic Way to Dogs Bay with its bright white sandy beach. In summer, you will feel free to take a refreshing dip in its crystal blue waters and enjoy being on one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.
After our beach-break we drive through picturesque Roundstone Village and arrive at the Ballynahinch Castle, set in a private 700-acre estate of woodland, rivers and walks. Among many previous owners it was once purchased by an Indian Maharaja Ranji, also called The Prince of Cricketers, in 1924. Today the castle is state-owned and operates as a 4-star hotel.
At Ballynahinch we can take a short walk along the river, stroll through the ground floor of the castle and enjoy a pint on the terrace overlooking the river.
On the way back to Galway we can stop for dinner in one of the pubs along the way, as you wish.
