The Baptistery of the Cathedral of Padua is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site together with seven other masterpieces of Paduan art: the site consists of eight religious and secular building complexes within the city walls of Padua, housing a selection of fresco cycles painted between 1302 and 1397 by different artists, for different clients and within buildings with different destinations. Despite this, the frescoes maintain unity of style and content. They include the Scrovegni Chapel and the Church of the Eremitani, the Palazzo della Ragione, the Chapel of the Reggia Carrarese, the Basilica and Convent of St. Anthony, the Oratory of St. George and the Oratory of St. Michael, and the Baptistery of the Cathedral.
Taken together, these cycles illustrate how, in the space of a century, the art of fresco painting developed hand in hand with a new creative impetus and a new understanding of spatial representation.

The tour will start with a visit to Antonellas diary where she will show you her farm with cows and goats that produce the milk to make delicious cheeses. You will learn the production chain from milk to cheese, you will visit the production laboratory and the seasoning room. DEPARTURE FROM PADUA OR ABANO / MONTEGROTTO TERME
Vicenza's golden age began in 1540, when the Venetian aristocracy decided to reorganise the city and its countryside and called Andrea di Pietro della Gondola, known as Palladio, one of the greatest architects of the time, for the arduous task.
The city of Vicenza and Palladio's villas in the Veneto region have thus been nominated a UNESCO Site for a total of 23 palaces in Vicenza and 24 villas in the surrounding area.
The tour will start from the central Piazza dei Signori with its elegant monuments and we will have a stroll around the city, including Corso Palladio the main street of the city. It will not miss the visit to the Basilica Palladiana, a masterpiece by Andrea Palladio (in case of closure we will visit the Church of Santa Corona).

1: Santuario della Madonna di Monte Berico

The origins of the Sanctuary of Monte Berico are linked to two apparitions of the Madonna to Vincenza Pasini, a woman bringing food to her husband who was working on the hill: the first on 7 March 1426, the second on 1 August 1428. Our Lady promised an end to the plague and asked that a church be dedicated to her in that place. So in 1428, within a few months, the first late Gothic church and a small cenoby were built to house a religious community dedicated to welcoming pilgrims.

2: Basilica Palladiana

The Basilica Palladiana, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994, is the symbol of the city of Vicenza. The beating heart of Vicenza's political and economic activity, in medieval times the Palazzo della Ragione appeared as a Gothic building, characterised by an enormous hall on the upper floor and animated on the ground floor by an active group of workshops. Following the collapse of the 15th-century loggias designed by Tommaso Formenton, in the 16th century the City Council discussed the renovation of the building: the great names of architecture of the time were involved, from Giulio Romano to Sebastiano Serlio, from Jacopo Sansovino to Michele Sanmicheli.
In spite of such illustrious opinions, in March 1546, the Council approved the design of a local architect of only thirty-eight years of age, who was decidedly little known at the time: Andrea Palladio.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After introducing each other you will be given a white apron and be assigned to a working station. Let's start!

First of all, you will prepare the original Bolognese sauce following the original Italian recipe: you will peel and chop the vegetables, season the mincemeat, prepare the tomato sauce, and more. While the sauce is simmering in the frying-pan you will start "getting dirty" and make the dough with flours and eggs.

Once the pasta is ready we will stretch and cut it so as to create our Lasagne (sheets of pasta). At this point, we will start creating our Lasagna layer by layer and we will cook it.

In the end we will sit together and eat our delicious Lasagna. Along with the experience you will be offered wine and drinks so that you won't be thirsty. At the end of the course, you will receive a file containing all the instructions to prepare Lasagne back home with family and friends.

Ciao!!! We will introduce each other and you will be given a white apron and be assigned to a working station.
Let's start!!! First of all you will make the original Bolognese sauce following Italian grandmothers' recipe. You will peel and chop the vegetables, season the mince meat, prepare the tomato sauce and cook all together under the Chef instructions. While the sauce is simmering in the the frying-pan you will start "getting dirty" and make the dough with flours and eggs. Once the dough is ready we will stretch and cut it so as to create our Tagliatelle. After that we will place the pasta on a wooden board and put the water to boil to cook our pasta. Once we have cooked the pasta and mixed it with the sauce we will sit together and enjoy our home-made Italian pasta.

One of the citys many (and beautiful) squares! So called because here stood the Palazzo della Signoria, or Palace of the Carraresi, who were the Lords of Padua from 1318 to 1405.

5: Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta

Dedicated to Saint Mary of the Assumption, it took its present form thanks to the architect Andrea da Valle, following a design by Michelangelo Buonarroti ( the famous Michelangelo! ) dating back to 1551.

6: Piazza delle Erbe

For centuries this square was the commercial centre of the city. Unlike the nearby Piazza dei Signori where the more institutional celebrations were held, Piazza delle Erbe was home to the more popular festivities. The imposing Palazzo della Ragione overlooks the square.

The Studium Patavinum, i.e. the University of Padua, today one of the most popular universities in Italy, was founded in 1222 to accommodate students who had moved away from the Alma Mater in Bologna, considered too controlled by the Church. We'll find this into the Palazzo Bo!
