2-Hour Fish and Gin Guided Tasting with Lunch in Pompeii
- Type:Dining Experiences
- Duration:2 Hours
OVERVIEWA journey into the sea stolen from Vesuvius, told as a secret message enclosed in a precious bottle. We offer a tasting of sea products accompanied by fine gins, which recall the flavors of the waters. We are in Pompeii, a few steps from the archaeological remains of the ancient city. Before the volcanic eruptions, the sea surrounded Pompeii, which could also count on a commercial port. The ancient inhabitants of the city were particularly fond of fish-based dishes, a poor dish from a land overlooking the sea. A short distance from Pompeii, a few centuries later, the first experiments related to gin took place. In Salerno, at the ancient Medical School of Salerno, the origins of gin are in fact linked, born as a drink useful for transmitting the medical properties of juniper.SAMPLE MENUStarterENTER WELCOMEStarterTASTING OF 4 RAWMainCOD ICE CREAM, CHUTNEY, YELLOW TOMATO AND GINGERMainPACCHERO, SPICY BROCCOLI CREAM, CRISPY SQUIDDessertMAREMISU'INCLUDES4-course menu plus 5 gin suggestionsMEETING AND PICKUPMeeting pointCapasantaExperience is held at the Capasanta Restaurant, easily located with a specific sign on the street.Options and Start time2-Hour Fish and Gin Guided Tasting with Lunch in Pompeii:01:00 PMEnd pointThis activity ends back at the meeting point.WHAT TO EXPECTThe tasting takes place at the Capasanta restaurant, a special place that is linked to the sea in form and substance. The marine settings are recalled in the dishes and in the aesthetics of the place. Each maritime dish is paired with a gin, of Campania, national or international origin. Gin, like the products of the sea, has traveled the waves of the whole world, involuntarily born in Salerno and then perfected in the Netherlands. We discover its stories, with the possibility of tasting a gin born in the shadow of Vesuvius or enclosed in bottles in the shape of the Faraglioni of Capri. The scent of lemons from the Sorrento coast, together with the salt and sea water used in the production process, recall Campania and the Mediterranean in the gastronomic journey. The itinerary, between seafood-based courses and sweets that try to draw it, can include gins from Spanish, French or oriental-inspired productions. Among the various menus there is also a route that leads to the Philippines, with a gin whose name preserves the life of a Molise emigrated in search of fortune, curiously returned home with the essence of a bottle that has been around of the world.Duration: 2 hoursADDITIONAL INFOWheelchair accessibleService animals allowedPublic transportation options are available nearbySuitable for all physical fitness levelsNot wheelchair accessibleThis tour/activity will have a maximum of 15 travelersCANCELLATION POLICYFor a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.(For information purpose only - definite start times will show on voucher, once confirmed) -

Venus was the patron goddess of Pompeii, to whom the colony was named upon conclusion (80 BC).1: BasilicaThe Basilica, with its extension of 1,500 square metres, was the most sumptuous building in Pompeii, it is dated back to 130-120 BC and is one of the oldest examples of this type of building in the entire Roman world.15 minutes -Admission Ticket Free2: Foro de PompeyaThe Pompeii Civil Forum is the core of daily life of the city and is the focal point of all the main public buildings for city administration and justice, business management, and trade activities such as markets, as well as the main places of citizen worship.10 minutes -Admission Ticket FreeTemple of Apollo (Pass by)The Sanctuary of Apollo is one of the oldest places of worship in Pompeii, built in a strategic point, along the path that goes up to Marina Gate, which led to the public heart of the city.Macellum (Pass by)The Macellum consists of a tuff quadriporticus with a hall for worship in an elevated position on the eastern side, in line with the entrance. The copies of two marble statues, a female and a male armed, are found on the niches of the side wall, together with the fragment of a larger statue, probably pertaining to an emperor, Titus or Vespasian, indicating how this area was intended for the imperial cult.3: Casa del FaunoIt is one of the larger houses of Pompeii, covering an entire block of about 3000 sqm and, according to its original layout, it dates back to the 2nd century BC. The wealth and social level of the owner are immediately evident from the street: the pavement bears the Latin welcome inscription (HAVE)15 minutes -Admission Ticket FreeTempio di Giove Capitolino (Pass by)The Temple of Jupiter dominates the north side of the Forum, with Mount Vesuvius scenically rising behind. When the colony was founded (80 BC).4: LupanarThe lupanar was the official brothel of Pompeii. As a trading town, it was visited every day by large numbers of people, especially traders from other towns. The prostitutes in the brothel were mostly Greek and Oriental slaves who were paid between two and eight Asses (a glass of wine cost one Ass) for their services. Small paintings with erotic depictions on the walls of the central corridor informed customers of the activities that took place within the Lupanare.
The brothel is named from lupa, a Latin word meaning 'prostitute'.15 minutes -Admission Ticket Free5: Casa del MenandroThe atrium has frescoes with scenes from the Iliad and the Odyssey. The peristyle is rhodium-shaped, with the north side higher. The house owes its name to a picture of Menander, an Athenian playwriter, placed in the portico.15 minutes -Admission Ticket Free6: Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane)The main entrance on via dell'Abbondanza leads to a large courtyard.
