WHAT TO EXPECT

During a 2 -hour trip you can get not only a short introduction to kayaking, we will also show you some highlights of the city and its surrounding nature. At our base in the sheltered Sjølyst Marina you will receive the equipment best suited to you and we will take you through safety instructions and basic techniques before we head out on the water of the Oslofjord. From here it is only a short way to small islands and nice sandy beaches. The guides will share information on sights like the picturesque marina with its house boats and other special vessels, the modern architecture on Fornebu and the beaches along the coast of the peninsula Bygdøy. Kayak experience is not necessary, we adapt our tours to our guests. We use single and double kayaks and will provide you with the boat that fits you and your abilities best.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Choose from one of several different start times, and then head to the pier opposite Oslo City Hall to board your boat. Your cruise takes place on Oslo Fjord, the citys scenic expanse of water, which is bordered by rocky shores and islets as well as the urban sights of Oslo.

Gaze out at the wooded hills that surround the city, passing through sheltered inlets and winding around small islands speckled with summer vacation homes. Learn about the areaits history and geographyfrom your onboard guide as you cruise.

Oslofjord (Pass by)

Oslo is beautifully situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord (Oslofjorden in Norwegian) and is surrounded by forested hills. Its a stunning city, and the best way to appreciate its beauty is on a relaxing sightseeing cruise.

On this two-hour tour, discover the scenery from a sightseeing boat. 3: Holmenkollen Ski Museum

You will experience a fantastic ride through Oslo up to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump Centre and get close up views of the ski jump tower and arena as well as excellent panoramic views of Oslo and surrounding fjord. The ski museum is located next to the Holmenkollen ski jump and showcases over 4000 years of skiing history. 4: Vigeland Park

We can stop off at Vigelands Parken should you wish to see some of the sculptures created by Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943). This is a 32 acre public park containing over 200 bronze and granite sculptures depicting human beings of different ages, sexes and sizes. The Frogner Stadium and open air pool are also located within the park. If you like roses then its also worth noting you will find Norways largest collection here with over 150 species totalling over 40,000 plants.

Though our regular scheduled tours are not strenuous, a certain degree of agility and fitness is recommended.

Please advise your guide if you have any physical conditions that may affect your enjoyment of our kayak tour.

Since our groups are small, we are normally able to adapt the pace of the tour to our guests. If you are looking for exercise, please be aware that our regular tours are not meant to be this, you will be asked to adjust your speed to the other clients and the guides pace.

Tour Information

OKT observes strict health & safety procedures, however when dealing with nature there always exists an element of risk. Please be aware that kayaking does carry a small degree of risk.

Safety instructions will be given before every tour; all our guests must agree to follow these instructions.

All our guides are trained in First Aid. On all tours they bring safety equipment, first aid equipment and communication devices.

We reserve the right to make changes to the schedule or to cancel any tour or arrangement due to health, safety and weather conditions.

We recommend all guests to have their own personal travel / medical Insurance.

We offer boats with a capacity of 50-120 kg.

Minimum age is 6 years.

All participants have to be able to swim at least 200 m.

We reserve the right to refuse participation to a client, if the person is e.g. intoxicated or in any other way not capable to sit in a kayak alone.

Kayaking is a water sport. We will do our best to keep you dry, but some contact with salt water is unavoidable. Please bring suitable clothing. We will provide shoes for you.

Please bring a dry change of clothes in case you are going to swim more or less voluntary.

All participants must wear life vests.

For safety reasons the group should stick together. Participants who leave the group, do this at their own risk. The tour guides are not responsible for people who leave the group.

Our adventure begins at our tour center in downtown Oslo. From here, well hop on the metro and enjoy a scenic ride through a breathtaking landscape. As we leave the city behind, the views over the fjord will unfold before you, setting the stage for a day of exploration.

As you reach the Frognerseteren station, you will be greeted by crisp fresh air and breathtaking panoramic views. From here, we enjoy a leisurely hike through the glorious green forest, keeping an eye out for trolls of course, and past mysterious small lakes, said to be inhabited by the mystical creature Huldra.

1: Vigeland Park

Some kilometres west of the city centre is the great Vigeland Sculpture Park, open all day and night to the public. The several hundred outdoor sculptures illustrate the circle of life. We are happy to give you a guided tour of the park.

2: Holmenkollen Chapel

..and Holmenkollen Ski Jump. Oslo is situated between the fjord and the forest. The forest is called Oslo Marka, and is our main area of recreation, particularly in winter since we love skiing. We take you up to the Holmenkollen hill to see our national symbol of skiing and view of the city. Possible "top-tour" to the ski jump tower (NOK 160 often a queue) and an exciting Ski Simulator (NOK110)

3: Fram Museum

Polar exploration was important in late 1800 and early 1900. There was a race to conquer the North pole and the South pole. In the Polar Museum you find the two authentic polar ships Fram (-forward) and Gjøa. Rewarded "The best museum in Norway". The most impressive is that we can enter the original 130 years old ship and get the polar feeling forced onto us by the multimedla film above us showing the combined drama of sea, wind, ice bergs and northern light.

Close by is also the KonTiki Museum (Entrance is not not included,)

View of the palace from vehicle or walking by. Norway is a democratic Kingdom and our Parliament situated on the main street of Karl Johan. We'll walk up front to the King's guards.

4: Norsk Folkemuseum

Optional visit, particular in nice weather: A 45 minutes visit to the outdoor museum. Here we can see traditional Norwegian buildings and also one of our famous "Stave Churches".

Munch (Pass by)

See our new "Lambda" building hosting Edvard Munch's art including "the Scream". However this museum requires at least half a day, so we just pass by in our tour.

5: Ekebergparken

We will stop in the Ekeberg Sculpture park and have a view of Oslo. And maybe a 15 min scenic walk passing all the modern amazing sculptures.

6: Honse-Lovisas Hus

Off the crowd, close to the "native" Oslo citizens. View and walk the stairs close to the impressing Aker river waterfall and feel the 19th century industry history. Visit the small tiny Lovisa's café for a coffee or/and a waffle?

7: Akerselva River

The main reason for Oslo's development during the last 500 years is the Aker River splitting the city in two. With 20 "productive" waterfalls it first produced power to our grain- and saw mill and later in the industrial 19th century our steel- and textile industry.

Today a 10 km park and recreation area. The lowest parts occupied by the "hipsters".

Karl Johans Gate (Pass by)

Oslo's main street is the Karl Johan, place to see and to be seen during the last 200 years. Today a part of our pedestrian city center (however a couple of crossing streets with cars). Imagine the street at our constitution day May 17th (1814) when tens of thousands of children are waving their flags or their march up to greet the King!

Ostbanehallen (Pass by)

Next to our modern Central Station we find the old station building from 1854 opened to serve our first steam train line. Today converted into an indoor restaurant area. Perfect for a rainy day.

8: Akershus Castle and Fortress (Akershus Slott og Festning)

One of the most important buildings in the city center is Akershus Fortress, built in 1300. Open for walks during the day and early evening. There is also a nice restaurant overlooking the old harbor and the City Hall. Pass by or visit at the end of the tour.

9: Oslo City Hall

See the Venue of the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony.

The most prominent building facing the sea is the Oslo City hall, well-known as the venue of the Nobel Peace Price ceremony every year.

The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet (Pass by)

Oslo city centre is quite small. We recommend picking a hotel in or close to the city centre (which we can book). Oslo is made for strolling around, and of course we will guide you.
Here is our modern opera building, evoking an ice berg rising up from the sea. You can even can walk on the marble roof.
