WHAT TO EXPECT

During a 2 -hour trip you can get not only a short introduction to kayaking, we will also show you some highlights of the city and its surrounding nature. At our base in the sheltered Sjølyst Marina you will receive the equipment best suited to you and we will take you through safety instructions and basic techniques before we head out on the water of the Oslofjord. From here it is only a short way to small islands and nice sandy beaches. The guides will share information on sights like the picturesque marina with its house boats and other special vessels, the modern architecture on Fornebu and the beaches along the coast of the peninsula Bygdøy. Kayak experience is not necessary, we adapt our tours to our guests. We use single and double kayaks and will provide you with the boat that fits you and your abilities best.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Choose from one of several different start times, and then head to the pier opposite Oslo City Hall to board your boat. Your cruise takes place on Oslo Fjord, the citys shimmering expanse of water, which is bordered by rocky shores and islets as well as the urban sights of Oslo.

Gaze out at the wooded hills that ring the city, passing through sheltered sounds and winding around small islands speckled with summer vacation homes. Lear about the areaits history and geographyfrom your onboard guide as you cruise.

Oslofjord (Pass by)

Oslo is beautifully situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord (Oslofjorden in Norwegian) and is surrounded by forested hills. Its a stunning city, and the best way to appreciate its beauty is on a relaxing sightseeing cruise.

On this two-hour tour, discover the scenery from a sightseeing boat. Youll sail past numerous islands, including Hovedøya and the Dyna Lighthouse, through narrow inlets and into sheltered bays so that you can capture the capital on camera from different angles. We will pass the Opera House in Oslo, housing The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet ensemble. 3: Holmenkollen Ski Museum

You will experience a fantastic ride through Oslo up to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump Centre and get close up views of the ski jump tower and arena as well as excellent panoramic views of Oslo and surrounding fjord. The ski museum is located next to the Holmenkollen ski jump and showcases over 4000 years of skiing history. 4: Vigeland Park

We can stop off at Vigelands Parken should you wish to see some of the sculptures created by Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943). This is a 32 acre public park containing over 200 bronze and granite sculptures depicting human beings of different ages, sexes and sizes. The Frogner Stadium and open air pool are also located within the park. If you like roses then its also worth noting you will find Norways largest collection here with over 150 species totalling over 40,000 plants.

Finally we head for the Bygdøy peninsula which is a great tourist attraction for those who like museums. This is where The Kontiki, Fram, Maritime, Viking ships and Folk museums are located as well as the Royal summerhouse. Though our regular scheduled tours are not strenuous, a certain degree of agility and fitness is recommended.

Please advise your guide if you have any physical conditions that may affect your enjoyment of our kayak tour.

Since our groups are small, we are normally able to adapt the pace of the tour to our guests. If you are looking for exercise, please be aware that our regular tours are not meant to be this, you will be asked to adjust your speed to the other clients and the guides pace.

Tour Information

OKT observes strict health & safety procedures, however when dealing with nature there always exists an element of risk. Please be aware that kayaking does carry a small degree of risk.

Safety instructions will be given before every tour; all our guests must agree to follow these instructions.

All our guides are trained in First Aid. On all tours they bring safety equipment, first aid equipment and communication devices.

We reserve the right to make changes to the schedule or to cancel any tour or arrangement due to health, safety and weather conditions.

We recommend all guests to have their own personal travel / medical Insurance.

We offer boats with a capacity of 50-120 kg.

Minimum age is 6 years.

All participants have to be able to swim at least 200 m.

We reserve the right to refuse participation to a client, if the person is e.g. intoxicated or in any other way not capable to sit in a kayak alone.

Kayaking is a water sport. We will do our best to keep you dry, but some contact with salt water is unavoidable. Please bring suitable clothing. We will provide shoes for you.

Please bring a dry change of clothes in case you are going to swim more or less voluntary.

All participants must wear life vests.

For safety reasons the group should stick together. Participants who leave the group, do this at their own risk. The tour guides are not responsible for people who leave the group.

We pick up from the cruise port of Oslo and hotels located in the city centre.

Your guide will meet you holding a sign with your name on it and/or the logo of ULKOtours, so you will be able to easily recognize it.

If you're coming by a cruise ship. the meeting point is located outside the main port gate.

Take off on foot through the city, stopping at the Akershus Castle, the Oslo Cathedral, the Parliament Building, the Royal Palace, and the National Theatre. Our adventure begins just outside Backstube Opera near Oslo Central Station. From here, well hop on the Frognerseteren metro line and enjoy a scenic ride that takes us through a breathtaking landscape. As we leave the city behind, the panoramic views will unfold before you, setting the stage for a day of exploration.

As you reach the Frognerseteren station, you will be greeted by breathtaking panoramic views. We will take a leisurely hike through the glorious green forest and along mysterious small lakes that are said to be inhabited by the mystical creature Huldra. After we wander to DNT Fuglemyrhytta - a small cabin that offers a cozy spot to relax and take in the views. From there our adventure will continue through the forest to the most spectacular spot of our journey the summit of Vettakollen mountain offering overwhelming views of the city and the Oslofjord. Take in the crisp fresh air and capture this moment with photographs.

We'll end the tour in Bjørvika, a bay with a perfect view of the National Opera and Ballet.

Aker Brygge (Pass by)

Aker Brygge is a shopping center built on the remains of an old shipyard. It's a popular meeting spot to grab a bite to eat or a drink after work.

Nobel Peace Center (Pass by)

The Nobel Peace Center building used to be an old railway station, where trains from the western parts of Norway arrived. The building now serves as a museum about the Nobel Peace Prize and tells the story of the Peace Prize founder Alfred Nobel, as well as past winners.

The Palace Park (Pass by)

The park that surrounds the Royal Palace was built during the 1840's. It has many majestic trees, well-kept lawns and beautiful ponds, some of them with fountains. The park is a popular recreational area for the citizens of Oslo, and even served as a base for hippies in the mid-1960's.

Karl Johans Gate (Pass by)

Paris has its Champs Elysees, New York has its Broadway, Oslo has Karl Johan Avenue or just Karl Johan. The first part of the street was already established in the 1500s, but since 1852 it has been known as Karl Johan named after the King.

Ostbanehallen (Pass by)

In the old days the Østbanehallen was the central railway station for the northern routes in Norway. After a complete transformation, the Østbanehallen reopened in 2015 and features shops, restaurants, a hotel and the Oslo Visitor Center.
