AREA COVERED: southern part of historical centre + the communist area.

1st half of the tour covers the Royal Route, which is the most elegant Warsaw street. Here in the 17th and 18th century wealthy noblemen were building their luxurious residences, powerful religious orders were erecting their baroque churches, here in the 19th century Chopin lived and Marie Curie was studying, here the most important events in Polish post-war history were taking place.

In the 2nd half of the tour you will explore the 20th-century city centre with the most iconic Warsaw building: the Palace of Culture, the famous gift from Stalin to the Peoples Republic of Poland, aimed to reshape Warsaws historical city centre and give Warsaw a new communist identity.

Old Town (Pass by)

The Old Town is not only the historical part of Warsaw. It must be remembered that until the end of the 18th century, Warsaw included only the Old Town, so called Old Warsaw. The New Town, formerly known as New Warsaw, was incorporated later. Previously, these were two separate cities, each of them had its own coat of arms. Old Warsaw Mermaid, New Warsaw Lady with a Unicorn. During our trip we will see, among others, the column of King Sigismund III Vasa in front of the Royal Castle, formerly the castle of Masovian dukes. From there, we will go to the Cathedral of St. John, where we will see the tombs of Masovian dukes. We will visit the Museum of Warsaw where we can admire the historic mermaid, saved from the Warsaw Uprising. We will go through the Barbican, which was the former fortification separating New and Old Warsaw. We will see the historic bell at the Kanonia square. Finally, we will see Chopins heart embedded in the Church of the Holly Cross.

Due to the new Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum policy, name and surname of each customer are obligatory and need to be provided accurately at the time of booking. In case name or surname is incorrect, this may result in customer paying for their ticket at Auschwitz themselves or even prevent customers from visiting the Museum. Each traveller needs to have valid ID or passport at the Auschwitz Museum.

By booking less than three months before the planned tour date, the customer acknowledges that online tickets for Auschwitz may no longer be available due to museum restrictions and high demand, as tickets often sell out well in advance. In such cases, tickets will need to be purchased on-site by the driver at the ticket office, which may involve waiting in line

Learn about the largest of the Nazi concentration camps and extermination centers where more than 1.6 million men, women, and children lost their lives during the Second World War.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After pickup from your Warsaw hotel, board an air-conditioned coach destined for Auschwitz (Oswiecim). Along the way, receive a historical introduction to the former Nazi extermination camp from your guide.

On arrival at Auschwitz-Birkenau, skip ahead of the lines with priority admission and begin a guided tour of the museum in your small group. See preserved wooden watchtowers, railway ramps and barbed fences that conjure the atmosphere of the concentration camp.

See, too, belongings such as shoes, suitcases, and documents that belonged to Jewish prisoners in the sites comprehensive museum. Then, take a short ride to Birkenau campthe extermination and labor camp where 90% of prisoners were killedto enrich your knowledge of the Holocaust.

Midway through the tour, enjoy a traditional Polish lunch of soup and a main dish. Your tour concludes with drop-off at your Warsaw hotel.

Due to the new Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum policy, name and surname of each customer are obligatory and need to be provided accurately at the time of booking. In case name or surname is incorrect, this may result in customer paying for their ticket at Auschwitz themselves or even prevent customers from visiting the Museum. Each traveller needs to have valid ID or passport at the Auschwitz Museum.

By booking less than three months before the planned tour date, the customer acknowledges that online tickets for Auschwitz may no longer be available due to museum restrictions and high demand, as tickets often sell out well in advance. In such cases, tickets will need to be purchased on-site by the driver at the ticket office, which may involve waiting in line

If a booking is made just a few days in advance, the tour operator will arrange an early departure from Warsaw (around 4 am) to secure tickets on the spot. However, the local provider cannot be held responsible for ticket availability at the ticket office

If tickets are sold out, customers will be refunded the nominal price of the museum entry tickets, but not the cost of the entire tour. Alternatively, clients can opt for a non-guided visit to Kraków's Old Town. Such situations are extremely rare and beyond the control of the local provider

OVERVIEW

The hot-air balloon flight takes place at sunrise or at sunset, depending on the weather. Departure from Warsaw at around 3am (for the sunrise flight) or at around 8am (for the sunset flight). The departure time will be confirmed 2-3 days before the tour. After 2-hour ride, you will get to the meeting point for the balloon flight in the Podlasie region, around 150 kilometres north-east of Warsaw. There, you will join your pilot and reach the place from which you will take off (it can be located up to 500 metres from the meeting point). The flight takes around 1 hour, but the entire experience takes around 3 hours. After the flight you will visit one of the two attractions: a small town of Tykocin famous for one of the best-preserved baroque synagogues in Poland or Narew National Park with floating platforms. The Constitution Square was constructed in the initial post-war years as a main element of social realist urban project. The Palace of Culture and Science is the undisputed symbol of Warsaw. The Palace was built in 1952-1955 as a gift from the Soviet Union to the people of Poland.

Varsovians still commonly use nicknames to refer to the Palace, notably "Beijing", "clown", "nightmarish dream of a drunk confectioner", "Stalin's syringe", "small but stylish". Other less common names include "the Elephant in Lacy Underwear", "Russian wedding cake", or even "Stalin's dick".

The permanent residents of the Palace are cats that live in the basement. Animals have their guardian who cares about them. In the highest part of the Palace, peregrine falcons live, which just below the spire, have their nest erected. They have been there since 1998. A pair of falcons have young children there. In the Internet users' competition, the young falcons were given the names: Bazyl, Orion and Wawa. A little lower in towers at the height of the 15th floor, the kestrels found their asylum. And on the level of the 6th floor, on the roof of the Studio Theater, among the melliferous bushes, there is an apiary of urban bees.

One of their first achievements is the Muranów district, a green and spacious neighbourhood built in the late 1940s.

Praga district brings one into the post-WWII gloomy reality of neglected buildings and suspicious businesses made behind dark gates. Unfortunately, the government did not want to invest a penny in refurbishing the post-bourgeoisie architecture, so Praga rolled into its slow decline until the new shiny blocks of flats were about to be built on its ashes. HOW MUCH WILL I DRINK?

We will taste different kinds of vodka (at least 6) and typical vodka food (at least 5 tastings). A local experienced guide speaking fluent English will take you to 3 or 4 bars and restaurants in the city centre serving best and most intriguing Polish vodkas to tell you stories, anecdotes and answer million of questions (which we hope you will want to ask!).

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your tour begins outside of Warsaws Palace of Culture and Science at 10:30am, when youll greet your guide and board a retro-style bus destined for the infamous Praga district.

During the short journey over the Vistula River, your guide provides a historical introduction to the district, formerly an independent metropolis. Stop first at a 19th-century chocolate factory to sample a cup of hot chocolate and then learn about the radical transformation of the Kamionek neighborhood as you explore its hip bars and cafes.

The next stops are the streets of Brzeska and Stalowa, replete with colorful murals depicting Polands history and political climate. See, too, the former black market of Róyckis Bazaar, where customers could buy forged documents, and visit a former vodka factory.

Finally, learn about the mysteries behind an area known as the Praga Bermuda Triangle, full of scenic courtyards and pre-war architecture. From here, youll return to your original departure point at the Palace of Culture and Science.
