WHAT TO EXPECT

Desperate Dan Statue (Pass by)

Desperate Dan is the star of The Dandy comic and one of Dundee's most famous statues. Dundee is famous as the headquarters of D.C.Thomson, one of the biggest publishers in Scotland. They are responsible for 200 million magazines, newspapers and periodicals every year.

The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum (Pass by)

The McManus Museum has displays on Dundee's history and it's also an art gallery. It's free to visit.

City Square Fountains (Pass by)

There are four carvings in the fountains. Each one represents an element earth, fire, air, water and has a quote from a local poet or author to illustrate it. The carving for water has an extract from 'Lunan Bay' by Mary Brooksbank.

Caird Hall (Pass by)

When James Caird died, he left his younger sister all of his considerable fortune and she continued many of his philanthropic projects, including funding the furnishing of Caird Hall and the building of the smaller hall next to it.

Slessor Gardens (Pass by)

Slessor Gardens are named after Mary Slessor. In 1997 she became the first woman on a Scottish banknote - the Clydesdale £10 note which was in circulation until recently. Mary Slessor became the first female magistrate in the British Empire.

Lemmings Statues (Pass by)

These statues are of Lemmings, the stars of DMA Design's 1991 video game Lemmings. Lemmings was a massive success, selling more than 15 million copies.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Dundee Botanic Garden

The garden is open daily from 10am until 4.30pm with last entry at 2.30 pm (March - October) or 3.30pm (November - February). A modest admission fee is charged, although entry is free for essential carers of disabled visitors, staff and matriculated students of the university.

The 27 acres of temperate plants are grouped into geographical plantings that relate to the social communities of plants found in the wild. A uniquely designed botanic garden that can be enjoyed as a beautiful backdrop to a wonderful walk, or dived into deeply to explore botanical wonders of wild collected plants that have been amassed from around the worlds temperate loop.

Something for all four seasons, but be prepared to be taken someplace else in this Tayside botanical paradise.

Please note that on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the first two days of January, the gardens are closed.
