WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Peterskapelle (Peter's Chapel)

As the tour starts you hear the fire horn followed by the invocation pray. The Nightwatchman tells you about his hard life in the middle age. With the help of a projector he introduces you to medieval Lucerne. You have a detailed look into the Martini plan, the first city map of Lucerne, dating from 1597. You see the route on the map and you will discover that many of the buildings on the map are still here today. You see St. Peters Chapel, the first church in town dating back to the 12th century. Next to it you see the first private stone house of Lucerne and you find out where the expression "stone rich" comes from.

2: Chapel Bridge

Did you know that the Water Tower was built some decades before the Chapel Bridge? In fact the Water Tower was built in the late 13th century while the Chapel Bridge dates back to 1365. You see pictures of the inside of the Water Tower and hear about the torture chamber, the dungeon and the secret room. Further you learn from where the Chapel Bridge got its name from.

3: Furrengasse

You walk round the corner to Kapellplatz and hear about live in the middle age in the blooming Republic of Lucerne. Walking through the Furrengasse you learn about its Ghost and the Toggeli (Incubus aka "love robber") around him.

4: Kornmarkt

You arrive at the the Town Hall Square called Kornmarkt. You learn about the Renaissance Town Hall and its Tower with the clock without minute hand. You hear the story of the "Giant of Reiden" and you see the Lucerne Foot and Elle, the official measures of Old Lucerne.

5: Brandgässli

In the Brandgässli Alley you get to know about the Riot of Lucerne before you continue to the former fish market, known today as the wine market.

6: Weinmarkt

On the Weinmarkt you see the old guest house signs and admire the frescos on the houses. On the former pharmacy house of Renward Cysat you read the latin sentence: "Amor medicabillis nullis herbis" which meams: "There is no cure for a broken heart."
While listening to what the Nightwatchman has to say about reformation and counter reformation, you enjoy a glass of the best water Lucerne. Then you pass the lower wine market, where once the pillory was located.

As you continue the Nightwatchman shows you some Guardian Demons. You stop at the legendary house of Lux Ritter and you hear why the first two floors look different than the third one. You will see the pictures projected on a house wall and you hear details about from your Guide.

Master your first turns on the snow in Switzerlands Jungfrau region!

OVERVIEW

Spend a day in the Swiss mountain countryside with this Mt. Titlis region hiking tour, bookable for up to eight people. With your own private guide, you'll travel from Lucerne to Engelberg by train, then ride in a cable car to the start of your hike. The circular route takes in camera-worthy views of the north face of Mt. Titlis along with the waterfalls, lush green pastures, and grazing cows that typify the alpine landscape here. Stop for lunch at a farm to enjoy homemade specialities, then visit a cheese maker in a monastery before your return to Lucerne. Food is at your own expense.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Start your journey at 7:45am with your friendly and professional guide. Enjoy a 40-minute train ride through scenic farmland, which brings you to the historic resort town of Engelberg (Angel Mountain). Hop on a bus to the end of the valley. Now board a cable car for a breathtaking ascent up to 1Â850 m/6Â070 ft and into the midst of snow-capped peaks and glaciers towering a further 1Â000m/3Â000 ft above you.

Start your hike on a circular trail with a vista point offering the best view over the valley and the north face of Mt Titlis, the highest mountain peak in the area(40 mins). Continue hiking on the plateau trail overlooking the valley with views to the surrounding high mountain peaks. As the path narrows you start descending to Abnet. Depending on fitness levels, interest and ability, either take a rustic cable car ride down to the lunch stop, or continue on foot.

Continuing on foot, pass the thundering Stauber waterfall and hear the intriguing legend of why Canton Uri has a bull's head on its cantonal flag. Hike further into the valley through green pastures and hear the rush of mountain streams and clanking of cow bells. Enjoy a 1-hour lunch at Staefeli at a traditional alpine farm inn that offers homemade specialties (Tip - bring cash not credit cards).

After lunch, gently descend on a 1Â½ hour hike along a path into the tree line and then through forest with a glacier stream keeping you company until you reach the cable car station again. The local bus returns you to Engelberg (last departure at 5pm) with time left to check out the show cheese-maker in the old monastery buildings or wander through the pretty village before taking the train back to Lucerne (5pm - 6pm).

WHAT TO EXPECT

Start your day trip near the main train station in central Lucerne, where youll meet your guide aboard the coach for the drive to Lauterbrunnen. The scenic journey winds below the impressive mountain peaks of the Bernese Oberland en route to your destination in the UNESCO-listed wilderness of Switzerlands Bernese Alps.

On arrival at Lauterbrunnen, your guide accompanies you on a 100-minute cogwheel train ride to Jungfraujoch, Europes highest-altitude railway station sitting 11,333 feet above sea level. Along the way, travel through the breathtaking mountain pass of Kleine Scheidegg, situated beneath the famous Eiger North Face.

Disembark at the Top of Europe and head to the Alpine Sensation a round-tour subway opened to mark the centenary of the Jungfrau Railway. This latest attraction links the Ice Palace and Sphinx Observatory, where you can soak up panoramic views over Aletsch Glacier, Europe's longest glacier. On a clear day, look as far as the snow-capped peaks of France and Italy.

If you wish, purchase a snack or a warm drink at the on-site restaurant (own expense) before the cogwheel train ride to Eigergletscher, where you will change to the V-Cableway Eiger Express. After approx. 15 minutes you will reach Grindelwald Terminal, where your coach awaits. Then hop aboard your coach for the return drive to central Lucerne where your tour concludes in the evening.
