The Tatra Mountains, specifically the High Tatras, comprise the border region between the countries of Poland and Slovakia, and is a popular tourist destination, particularly in the winter, when it is visited by millions of people. Many go to Tatra National Park, recognized by UNESCO as a transboundary biosphere reserve, which comprises 81 square miles of the High Tatras in both countries. The mountain range is a great place to ski and participate in winter sports, and in the summertime, the High Tatras' hiking trails come highly-recommended. Much of the social scene in the Tatras is centered on Zakopane, in Lesser Poland, in particular its buzzing main street, Krupowki Street.
