Its impressive history makes York an important tourist attraction. It is still encircled by its 13th and 14th-century city walls. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. The Monk Bar gate houses an exhibition tracing the life of 15th-century Plantagenet King Richard III. The city is also famous as home of the University of York. Climb the Cliffords tower to enjoy an excellent panorama.
