Experience Juan Dolio
Overview
Juan Dolio is a small coastal town located about an hour east of Santo Domingo. The native Taino people inhabited the area in the pre-Columbian era and there are still archaeological findings in town on numerous occasions. Juan Dolio was mainly a fishing and agricultural town before a hotel boom in the 1980s. Today, the area is lined with resorts, primarily all-inclusive, and other beachfront properties stretching across 3 miles. It’s a favorite of the affluent urbanites who flock here on weekends for the spacious and sparkling white sand beaches dotted with hotels, dive shops, restaurants, and bars, as well as a variety of vacation homes, upscale residential communities, and newly built condominiums.
Since the main draw is the resort experience and the beaches, choosing the right hotel is crucial, as much of your time will be spent within the resort and along its beachfront. Unlike more developed resort towns with a variety of attractions, Juan Dolio itself offers few activities outside of its resorts, making the quality of your accommodations an even more important aspect of your stay.
