Things to See & Do
Enjoy a day in Panama City. About a 20-minute drive away, Panama City has a historic district, Casco Antiguo (also known as Casco Viejo). It’s well worth taking a guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site to learn about the history behind the centuries-old churches, the beautiful facades of historic residences, and government buildings. A great way to see all the sights is a Hop-On Hop-Off City bus Tour to discover the historic and cultural districts of the city. Panama City also offers great shopping and nightlife.
Visit the Panama Canal. Learn about the canal’s history and engineering. Tour the Canal and its basin to discover its important economic, cultural, and environmental impact. The Miraflores Visitor Center, located near Panama City, offers viewing decks, an IMAX theater, and exhibits. You can also experience the canal through a boat tour.
Take an island excursion to Taboga Island (“Island of Flowers”). Just a 30-minute ferry ride away. There are several activities to enjoy, such as exploring the town of San Pedro, hiking to viewpoints, relaxing on the beach, and watersports. You can also visit the historic Church of San Pedro, one of the oldest in the Americas, and hike to the top of Cerro de la Cruz for beautiful views.
Take a Snorkeling Trip or Catamaran Cruise. Sail along the coast of Cayo Sabinal by catamaran, snorkel, and visit some of the different beaches and islands, such as Blue Veins Island and Drake Beach. The calm waters are perfect for snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding to appreciate mangroves, coral reefs, and reef fish.
Take a tour of the jungle. Enjoy a boat on Gatun Lake to Monkey Island to see natural wildlife and the famous howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and Geoffrey’s Tamarin, You’ll also have the opportunity to discover the natural bird and repitlian life.
Discover Embera Villa and Waterfall Tour. The traditional Embera community in Chagres National Park is a memorable part of exploring panama. A tour is a great way to explore this indigenous community, to learn about their beliefs, and share a traditional meal. Along the way, you hike to a waterfall and enjoy a refreshing swim.
Explore the Soberania National Park, about a 35-minute drive from Playa Bonita. Immerse yourself in lush flora and fauna through hikes in the rainforest. The park is home to over 100 species of mammals, including sloths and monkeys. A great way to explore is with a guide to learn interesting facts about the park and its inhabitants. This park is a bird watching paradise with over 525 bird species - toucans, trogons, motmots, harpy eagles, and more. Pipeline Road alone has logged 357 species in a single day.
