Cuisine

Roatán offers rich and flavorful cuisine that blends traditional Honduran dishes with Caribbean flair. When deciding what to eat, start with island staples like baleadas, soft flour tortillas filled with refried beans, cheese, and cream, then move on to comforting conch soup, a creamy blend of tender conch meat, coconut milk, and spices. Freshly fried fish served with golden plantains is a local favorite, while tapado, a Garifuna seafood stew with coconut milk and green bananas, showcases the island’s coastal heritage. For heartier options, try Honduran tamales wrapped in banana leaves or sopa de caracol, a savory snail soup with yuca and spice. Crispy pastelitos make great on-the-go snacks, and sweet coconut bread offers a tropical twist to your meal. Don’t miss the abundance of fresh fruits like mangoes, pineapples, and papayas.

Dining in Roatán is mostly laid-back. You'll find everything from casual beachside shacks serving fresh-caught seafood and local specialties to cozy cafes and some upscale waterfront restaurants with beautiful ocean views.

The island’s international community has also brought in a variety of global cuisines, so it’s easy to find Italian, American, Thai, and even sushi spots, especially in areas like West End and West Bay. Most places embrace the island’s relaxed vibe, with open-air seating, reggae or live music in the background, and a come-as-you-are attitude.
