You'll start the tour at the Nohoch Che'en Reserve. Start by wading across the river (about knee deep). Once on the other side, enjoy a guided nature walk through the jungle and a dry cave as you make your way to the starting point. Double hard shell sit on top kayaks await you at the riverside. Get acquainted with your kayak as you listen in to the safety briefing. Start with a short paddle upstream to the very first cave, where the river comes up from underground. Then head downstream, guiding your kayak through the cave systems with only your headlamp to lead the way! Altun Ha was first settled somewhere around 250 BC, with construction of the buildings beginning in 100 AD and continuing throughout the Classic Period that ended in the 10th century. Some 10,000 Mayans lived in and around Altun Ha, which was a significant trading center as evidenced by the large amounts of jade and obsidian excavated here in the early sixties and seventies.1: Altun HaAltun Ha Tour: spanning a 25 square mile area roughly an hour from Belize City, Altun Ha is made up of two central plazas surrounded by towering temples that enclose the palm strewn land. The larger of the two plazas, Plaza A, is the site of a mysterious tomb discovered beneath one of the temples called Temple of the Green Tomb. Jade, jewelry, flints and skins are among the three hundred remnants that were unearthed here.

Evidence of the Mayan at Altun Ha dates to 200 B.C. The first major temple was built around A.D. 100 near the principal reservoir, the area that we see now dates to the beginning of the Classic Period (A.D. 250). This was to be the central core of the site for some six centuries. The northern plaza (Plaza A) was the primary ceremonial precinct until close to the end of the Early Classic (around A.D. 550) then work started on Plaza B.

Once all passengers have boarded we then embark on our trek from low flat land to the beautiful hills. As the elevation increases you will get to see the Maya Mountains from a distance and the change in vegetation from savanna to tropical jungle.
The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours in which we get to venture through the Twin Towns of San Ignacio and Elena as we make our way closer to the hand crank ferry. Once, we arrive to the ferry we will be hand cranked across the beautiful green Mopan river which we then drive for another 5 minutes to our destination.
Once we arrive to the archaeological reserve of Xunantunich the guide will take you to explore the ancient wonders of the site. You will have the opportunity to climb the El Castillo temple which is approximately 130 feet tall. From here you will be able to see Guatemala the one of the neighboring countries with Belize. As you trek along the site you might run into some wildlife as this site is surrounding by jungle. You might get a glimpse of monkeys, birds, spiders and much more.
