Trip Summary

  • La Paz

There are a ton of fun things to do in La Paz because it is fast becoming a must-visit destination on the South American gringo trail, partly due to its convenient location between many of Bolivia and Peru’s greatest sites. But this bustling metropolis at a breathtaking 11,600 feet (3,600 meters) above sea level has plenty of worthwhile attractions of its own. Warm clothes are a must, almost any time of year, and do take time to get used to the high altitude before doing serious touring. La Paz is a city that isn’t on every traveler’s radar, but it should be. It’s an amazing city, set among the Andes Mountains and is the highest capital in the world.

Explore the Valle de la Luna, Basilica of Saint Francis, Ethnography Museum, Museo de la Coca, Museo Nacional de Arte, Valle de las Animas, Catedral Metropolitana Basilica Nuestra Senora and much more.

  • Santa Cruz de la Sierra

There are a ton of fun things to do in Santa Cruz de la Sierra since it is a totally different world. First of all, its located in tropical East Bolivia, only 400 m above sea level. The mountain scenery and high altitude changed to humid weather, modern vibes and less poverty. People would say not authentic Bolivia. However, we liked this other type of Bolivia with its exceptional flora and fauna as well as a variety of landscapes from snowy mountains to the curvy Amazonas and neverending green forests.Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz is Bolivias largest international airport. You can fly there from Bolivia and other South American countries, as well as North America and Europe. The airport is located approximately 10 miles from the city center.

Visit the Catedral Metropolitana Basilica Menor de San Lorenzo de Santa Cruz, Lomas de Arena Regional Park, Parque El Arenal, Santa Cruz de la Sierra Botanical Garden and much more.

  • Sucre

Sucre, set in the southern highlands of Bolivia, is the first and current constitutional capital of Bolivia. The whitewashed Casa de la Libertad, where Bolivia`s Declaration of Independence was signed, houses galleries related to the city's past as the national capital and on Plaza 25 de Mayo, you will encounter the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Museo Universitario Charcas USFXCH, featuring religious artifacts and contemporary art. Its many well-preserved 16th-century religious buildings, such as San Lazaro, illustrate the blending of local architectural traditions with styles imported from Europe. As of December 13, 1991, UNESCO declares Sucre a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Visit the Museo Universitario Charcas, Metropolitan Cathedral, Plaza 25 de Mayo, Bolivar Park, Casa de la Libertad, Glorieta Castle, Parque Cretacico de Cal Orck`o, Monasterio de La Recoleta, and so much more!

  • Potosi

The beautiful Potosi is one of the highest cities in the world at 4,090 meters above the sea level. For centuries, it was the location of the Spanish colonial mint. Potosi lies at the foot of the Cerro de Potosi, sometimes referred to as the Cerro Rico, a gorgeous mountain popularly conceived of as being made of silver ore that dominates the city. Moreover, it also offers fantastic lunar landscapes, mostly incredible alpine regions, one of the highest lake on earth and a fascinating yet unique indigenous culture that amaze every single visitor. The Salar of Uyuni also holds a world record, with an area of 4650 square miles, it is the largest salt lake in the whole world. In addition to this, the Tiwanaku Ruin Site is one of the most important pre-Columbian sites in the entire south america, usually referred as the Bolivian Machu Picchu.

Visit the National Mint of Bolivia, Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, Templo y Convento de Santa Teresa, Church of Saint Lawrence of Carangas, Cathedral of Saint Francis and much more.

  • Uyuni

Uyuni lies on the cold, windswept Altiplano, a high intermontane plateau, at 12,024 feet (3,665 metres) above sea level, just east of the vast Uyuni Salt Flat. The Salar de Uyuni is one of the main tourist destinations in Bolivia as it is visited by approximately 60,000 tourists each year. The best time to visit the Salar de Uyuni is November, the breeding month for the three species of elegant flamingos that live near the many lagoons in the area. The salt flat reflects the clouds, when it is slightly covered with water. Especially between the months of January and March, in the rainy season. Visit the Train Cemetery, Plaza Principal Aniceto Arce, Senda Andina, Salt Flats, Museo de Trenes, and so much more!
