1st day -
Departure from a hotel in Manaus early morning. The trip takes about
three hours by speedboat, van, and speedboat again. On the way to the
lodge, stop to see the amazing Meeting of the Waters, where the muddy
waters of the Solimões River and the black waters of the Negro River
run side by side, without mixing, to form the great Amazonas River.
Enjoy the first contact with the jungle during the transfer and observe
the giant water lily. Arriving at Juma Lodge around 11 a.m., a welcome
juice, prepared with exotic fruits, followed by check-in and lunch. The
afternoon activity is a canoe tour through the igarapés (Amazonian
creeks) and the igapós (flooded forest). Along the way, some river
dolphins might be observed. Return to the Juma Lodge and have dinner
around 7 p.m. After dinner, go out in canoes for alligator spotting.
Alligators are spotted because their eyes shine like small red lights.
2nd day - Early in
the morning, around 5:15 am, leave for a sunrise excursion, witnessing
the transformation of the dark water of the Juma River into a mirror
and listening to the sounds of the waking birds (our guides have
binoculars and are trained in birdwatching). Breakfast with typical
fruits and regional food will be served on the return to the lodge,
around 7 a.m. Around 8:30 a.m., leave for a jungle hike. Once inside,
the Amazon Forest feels its charm and greatness. A lodge guide leads
all tours with great knowledge of the area and will pass along
important concepts about jungle survival. Return to the lodge for lunch
around noon. After lunch, around 2:30 p.m., go on a tour around the
hotel. Juma was built all on stilts, and during this tour, it will be
seen from another angle: from below. It's very interesting to
understand how the hotel was built. The tour is by boat (during the
rainy season) or on foot (during the dry season). After the tour,
around 3 pm, we will board a wooden boat, the same kind the local river
dwellers use, to catch the famous Piranha and other fishes in the
region. While enjoying the sunset, return to Juma. Dinner will
complement the fish caught earlier, cooked the Amazon way. Later,
around 8 p.m., one of the guides will perform an informal speech about
his life (guides are all natives) and the customs and legends of the
river dwellers.
3rd day - Breakfast around 7
a.m. Transfer back to Manaus, arriving approx.at 12:00 p.m. at city
hotels and following to the airport.
