WHAT TO EXPECT

Generally, the class starts with a warm-up to prepare the body for the rhythm and movements of the samba. This might include stretching, breathing exercises, and some dance activities to loosen up the muscles.

Then the teacher begins to teach the basic samba steps, which involve a combination of hip, leg and arm movements. It is important to pay attention to the music and rhythm, as samba is a very syncopated dance style.

As the class progresses, the teacher adds more steps and more advanced moves so you can build a complete samba routine. It's important to practice these steps often so that they become natural and flow well with the music.

First, we will visit one of the seven wonders of the world, Christ the Redeemer - and arguably the best view in Rio. We will reach the top of Corcovado by train and spend approximately 40 minutes there (note: train tickets and entry are not included, but with me, you can skip the line!) Crevice of Our Lady of Assumption (Pass by)

Located at one end of Cabo Frio Island, although belonging to Arraial do Cabo, the Fenda da Nossa Senhora Aparecida is a rock formation that appears to have been cut like a slice of the island's cake. The story goes that in 1721 a fisherman found a statue of Our Lady of Aparecida there, beginning a journey that took her in procession to the Church of Our Lady of Assunção, in Cabo Frio, where she was solemnly enthroned. This episode is narrated in the book "O outro Cabo Frio" by Luiz Carlos da Cunha, although many consider its veracity to be a legend.

Nowadays, an image of the Saint is present both in the church in Cabo Frio and inside the crevice itself in Arraial do Cabo. The opening is about 5 meters wide by 40 meters high, almost reaching sea level. Before this opening, there is a rocky part exactly where the statue of the Saint is sheltered.

1: Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia

The staircase that leads to Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia looks like a portal to paradise. From the top of the hill, you can see a truly paradisiacal scene. It's difficult not to be mesmerized by the stunning view: white sands, sea in varying tones and the untouched green of Ilha do Farol in the background. The descent is steep, with many steps, but a photo stop along the way is always welcome.

It is essential not to confuse Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia with Prainha near the entrance to the city, nor with Praia do Pontal which extends along the same strip of sand as Praia do Forte, in Cabo Frio. Prainhas are located on Morro do Pontal do Atalaia and get their name due to the formation of two beaches that join together into a single strip of sand when the tide is low.

The color of the water varies depending on the time of day, current, sunlight and other factors, transitioning between shades of green and blue.

2: Praia do forno

A visit to the Cristo Redentor monument by Morro do Corcovado! The statue of Christ the Redeemer is one of the greatest symbols of the State of Rio de Janeiro, undoubtedly the best known worldwide as one of the 7 wonders, it is present in all representations of the Marvelous City. Inaugurated on October 12, 1931, on the day of Our Lady of Aparecida, Cristo Redentor is a statue of reinforced concrete and soapstone 30 meters high, not counting the 8 meters of the pedestal, and its arms stretch for an incredible 28 meters wide.

The statue weighs 1145 tons and is the third largest sculpture of Jesus Christ in the world.

Dona Marta Lookout:

Located 360 meters above sea level, Mirante Dona Marta is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Rio de Janeiro. 1: Corcovado - Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer is an art deco statue depicting Jesus Christ, located on the top of Corcovado Hill, 709 meters above sea level, in Tijuca National Park, overlooking most of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2007 it was informally elected as one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

Located at the top of Morc do Corcovado, in Tijuca National Park, the monument is the best known Brazilian image in the world. Every year, more than 600,000 people are brought to Christ the Redeemer by the centenary Corcovado Railway, the country's oldest sightseeing tour.

It all starts with the electric locomotive, centennial and twice environmentally friendly. It does not pollute and crosses the preserved Atlantic forest, belonging to the Tijuca National Park. At the feet of Christ the Redeemer, one of the Seven New Wonders of the Modern World, the most beautiful view of the city, showing from above what Rio de Janeiro has to offer.

2: Sugarloaf Mountain

One of the most beautiful postcards in Rio de Janeiro offers stunning views of the entire city.

From Praia Vermelha, visitors take the first tram leading to the Urca hill, and from there a second cable car takes them to the top of the Sugarloaf hill, which is 396 meters from sea level. Different stories justify the name of this tourist spot; the most popular one says that during the 16th and 18th centuries, at the height of sugarcane production, producers stored sugar blocks in forms for export, and the similarity of the object to the Sugarloaf hill gave rise to the name. .
Inaugurated in 1912, the Sugar Loaf Cable Car was the first cable car in Brazil and the third in the world, connecting the Morro da Urca to the Sugar Loaf Hill. Since then, over 40 million people have used the cable cars.
From the top of the two hills, a breathtaking landscape of the city is revealed, including Botafogo Inlet, Copacabana waterfront and Guanabara Bay entrance. In summer, the amphitheater located at the top of Morro da Urca is the stage for nightly shows and events, combining fun with a beautiful view of the city lights.

Scenario of the most important classics of Brazilian football Maracanã has also received historical moments of international football. Monumental facts, such as King Pelé's thousandth goal in 1969, also took place on the grounds of the temple of Brazilian football.

Inaugurated on June 16, 1950, it has hosted World Cup games of that year and some 2014 World Cup matches, including the grand final. It also hosted the 2013 Confederations Cup games, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2007 Pan American Games and, more recently, the 2016 Olympic Games and 2019 Copa America. In addition to sporting competitions, Maracanã has played host to important events. events such as Madonna shows, Rolling Stones twice, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, and then Pope John Paul II's field masses in 1980 and 1997.

Maracanã has undergone a major overhaul for the 2014 World Cup and currently has a capacity of 78,838 fans. The stadium has been modernized and today meets international safety, logistics and sustainability requirements. New bars and cafeterias provide more comfort for the public, which also has retractable chairs divided by colors and produced with certified materials, such as PET bottles. Divided into five levels and in the north, south, east and west sectors, Maracanã bets on divisions to facilitate access and location of fans. Gate, sector, block, level, row and chair are the subdivisions that will allow the fan to locate their seat with greater safety and comfort. There are seats for the obese, an area reserved for people with special needs and a tactile floor for the visually impaired.

5: The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian

Inaugurated in 1976, the São Sebastião Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro or Metropolitan Cathedral, as it is better known, is located in the city center. The project is by modernist architect Edgar Oliveira da Fonseca, coordinated by Monsignor Ivo Antônio Calliari.
With a capacity to house 20,000 fans, its 106 meters in diameter at the base and 96 meters in height draw attention by the cone-shaped structure. The main door is composed of 48 bas-relief bronze plates that address faith-related themes. The interior has 60-meter-high stained glass ripped from the walls to the dome, providing the church with beautiful natural light.
In the basement, the Museum of Sacred Art features a collection of sculptures, murals, works of art, and the fonts used to baptize the princes of the royal family. Also on display are the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary, the throne of Peter II and the Golden Rose granted to Princess Isabel by Pope Leo XIII celebrating her signature of the Slavery Abolition Act in Brazil.

Arcos da Lapa (Pass by)

The famous Lapa Arches are part of Rio de Janeiro's history, beginning in the colonial period.

The old Carioca Aqueduct, known as Arcos da Lapa, is one of the city's postcards, as well as being the most representative symbol of the Old River preserved in the bohemian Lapa region. The structure, in mortar stone, has a Romanesque style, whitewashed, has 42 double arches and glasses on the top. Arcos da Lapa is considered the largest architectural work undertaken in Brazil during the colonial period. Around you are two of the city's most important venues: Fundição Progresso and Circo Voador.

6: Escadaria Selaron

The Selarón Staircase is an architectural masterpiece located between the Santa Teresa and Lapa neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, decorated by long-living Chilean artist Jorge Selarón, who declared it a "tribute to the Brazilian people" .

The Selarón Staircase fills with color one of the paths between the Lapa and Santa Teresa neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro. The gigantic mosaic is the work of Chilean plastic artist Jorge Selarón, who began to devote himself to decorating the staircase in the early 1990s.

With his continuous work, and his own resources, he left a gift for the city: the 250 steps between Joaquim Silva Street and Santa Teresa Convent became a monument and an icon of Rio.
