Ed Flaherty and Jen Hoover are two Californians who came to Chile in 1993 to work a harvest and then never left. The country has an exceptional climate for winegrowing, producing ripe fruit with smooth tannins and intense primary fruit flavors.

Boutique wineries are on the rise in Chile. In the last ten years, however, smaller projects have been gaining foothold and developing a following in the local market. Flaherty Wines is one of the founding members of the Independent Vintners Movement (MOVI), a trade organization for small owner-involved wine projects.

The Flaherty winery is located in the estate house of an old hacienda (or fundo, as they are called in Chile) once known as Fundo El Magnolio, after the giant magnolia trees growing in the park. The post-colonial adobe house is over a hundred years old and retains much of its original architectural style. You will enjoy a tour to know about our wine making process followed by a three wine tasting.

5: Vina Errazuriz

Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded Viña Errázuriz in 1870. With his great vision for the future and his innovative, pioneering spirit, he planted the first French grape varieties in the Aconcagua Valley. His initiative and creativity were handed down to future generations and, in just over a century, his descendants consolidated the winery and positioned their wines among the worlds most noteworthy.

The winery was built as a two-storey structure. The excavation and construction of its huge cellar rooms alone took five years. The thick underground walls, built with bricks and mortar (a kind of cement made of egg whites and sand), have stood the test of time and have allowed the wine to be kept there in large casks made of raulí (a native Chilean tree) at a constant temperature of 12 to 14º C.

The tour begins by discussing the history of Viña Errázuriz and its importance in the development of the Wine Industry at National and International levels. Guests will visit the underground cellars and the vineyards, covering topics such as viticulture, weather conditions, and management of the different grape varieties.

Guests also visit the new Icon Winery and learn about the sustainability based design as well as the details of its operation to produce the icon wines of Viña Errázuriz.

The tour is completed with a tasting of 3 wines in our Icon Bodega tasting room; one Max Reserva wine, one Aconcagua Costa wine, and our Don Maximiano premium wine.

The foundation of La Ruca in the year 1967 by Mrs. Sarela Prado and Don Tito Figueroa, its founders, had as its leit motive the Chilean cuisine and the folkloric traditions of Chile.

They offered the pork prepared to take away and from this point, while the clients were waiting for their orders, they would be served with chopped pork and chicha from the Aconcagua area. All of it accompanied by music and traditional Chilean songs performed by the owners.

Step away from the usual tourist haunts, and spend the day away from the city, deep within the traditional Chilean countryside, 1 hour from Santiago.

We'll start the day by visiting a permaculture farm. Hosted by the owners, you'll get to experience and learn all the nuances of running a permaculture venture. This farm, filled with heritage species, practices permaculture, seed preservation, and vertical agriculture not because they are "trendy" but because these are the practices Joel, our host, learned straight from his grandmother.

Within the plot there is also a small patch of native forest. Here you are welcome to explore and breathe for a bit. Connect to the trees and spend a moment imbued in the forest.

Afterwards, we'll head to a local beer microbrewery for a traditional lunch paired with some of their delicious craft beers.

We will end the day at a local Spa, where your visit will include a 60 minute massage and another hour soaking in one of their wood-fired hot tubs.

Cable car: This is the closest stop to the entrance to Santiago Metropolitan Park and Cable Car. On February 12, 1541, the monumental neoclassical entrance of the hill was completed in 1902 and harmonizes around a sculpture of the god Neptune an entire architectural set with curved stairs, swimming pools, a large terrace and a triumphal arch topped by a dome. The ensemble is a very evocative image of the lifestyle of the high society of Santiago in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition, in the square you will find a water fountain called Bicentennial, which is almost 70 meters in length and width of more than 25 meters, inaugurated in 2005 by the Municipality of Providencia. 3: Tunel Ferroviario del Tinoco

The El Tinoco tunnel is a railway tunnel located 15 kilometers from San José de Maipo. It is part of the G-25 Camino El Volcán route, El Jaboncillo Sector, located at kilometer 43.6 km and is 493 meters long.1 Built between 1911 and 1914, it is considered a Historical Monument because it is part of the route along which the old military railway (now converted into a historic train) passed, connecting the municipality of Puente Alto to the city of El Volcán.

Receive a morning pickup from your hotel in Santiago. Travel by air-conditioned minivan out of the city toward Cajón del Maipo in the mountainous Andes region outside of town. As you drive, make periodic stops to take in views of local waterfalls and glaciers.

You soon arrive amidst the towering rock walls of this scenic gorge area, taking time to soak up the postcard-perfect views as your driver-guide prepares your included picnic. Sip on Chilean wine and a snack made with local ingredients, a meal made even better by your incredible view.

After finishing your picnic and exploration of the area, climb back into your van for the ride back to Santiago, where youre dropped off at your hotel.
