Cahuíta National Park Reserve are worldwide recognized, not only because of their natural beauty but because they are becoming unique conservation places in almost the whole Caribbean. The Cahuita National Park measures 1067 hectares, including 240 hectares of reef that extend outward from Cahuita Point. The tropical forest shelters various animals, among which are the following: pacas, racoons, Northern tamanduas, opposums, porcupines and capuchin monkeys. Once we arrived at the Bribris indigenous territory of Talamanca. Our guide who is also a Bribri indigenous descendant of the Duriwak clan will tell you about the history of this indigenous group, you will also have the opportunity to learn about the culture, about the language and also about the way of life of the Bribri indigenous people.
As part of this activity we will learn about the use of some medicinal plants that are used in native home remedies. To continue with our day, we will have the opportunity to learn how to make chocolate in the traditional way, you will have the opportunity to make chocolate with your own hands. Cahuita National Park is considered as one of the most beautiful protected area´s in Costa Rica. It is also one of the oldest national parks of Costa Rica as it was founded in 1970 to protect the coral reef. Because of its white sand beaches, large number of coconut palms, turquoise sea and coral reef this is a spot you do not want to miss.

You will be given a tropical fruit snack plus water to begin the hiking in the trail of the Cahuita National Park with one ours naturalist tour guides. The guide will take you to different points between Cahuita Point and the town of Cahuita (3.5 km) observing various types of snakes (boas, bocaraca, bush master, eyelash vipers, etc.), sloths, white faced and howler monkeys, anteaters, armadillos, raccoons, blue morpho butterflies among others, birds and many more things such as: medicinal plants, orchids, trees, ferns, vertebrates, invertebrates, sea and earth shellfish and numerous other species that you will be able to observe and learn about.

From the beach to the tropical rainforest. It's only a short walk from Playa Negra and youll begin diving into the rainforest. First crossing an old cacao farm. Then youll pass three humble huts of indigenous families. One hour in you'll be in the depth of the forest. This jungle has species of plants and shrubs with healing properties. A wide variety of palms and giant trees over 250 years old. About 2 hours in youll be approaching a great surprise. Descend to the KEKOLDI river. Following it until we encounter an imposing 45 meters high waterfall. Enjoy swimming and appreciating the tropical jungle at this secret and remote place. After enjoying this magical, its time to head back to the start. You should know we will be walking in the jungle, so you might get some mud on your shoes. And if it's raining we will still get mud so don't let a rainy day stop us. Total distance is 10km. For some people the hick could be a challenge.

Meeting point is the Biological Station or an agreed place. Here on the station we offer you on request a guided hike to the well-known and hidden in the rain forest Volio waterfall, after this great experience, we drive to an indigenous family that has been familiar with organic cocoa cultivation and chocolate production for generations.

On a tour of the farm and in the plantations, we learn about medicinal plants and their application. They also get an insight into the cultivation of cocoa. After the tour, we will take part in a demonstration of chocolate production. Here we will learn everything about the processing of cocoa beans, such as fermentation, roasting and processing to chocolate in a traditional way.
