WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Cotopaxi National Park

Adventure starts in the Quito city that is located at 2890m or 9000 ft above sea level. The Cotopaxi National Park is located 77km on the south of Quito. When you arrive at the main entrance of the National Park is a good moment to taste an energy drink known as Coca Tea. This andean beverage was drunk by Incas to mitigate certain discomforts caused by effects of the altitude. Afterwards, the vehicle will take us to the lower area of the Park which altitude is 3900m or 12795ft above seal level. On this altitude is located the Limpiopungo Lagoon. The lacuna is a perfect place to start the hiking around in one hour or so. The wildlife that sorrounds the lagoon are wild horses or rabbits, andean gulls, coots, lapwings and sandpipers. Occasionally, the Andean Condor are planning the Park and could be spotted up in the distance. The tour continues driving to the next tourist attraction.

2: Laguna Quilotoa

After 2-hour drive from the Cotopaxi National Park is located the Quilotoa Lagoon. Quilotoa is a water-fill caldera that tops out at 3800m or 12467 ft above sea level. This lagoon shows up different colors, it depends if the day is sunny or cloudy. You can be as active or relaxed as you like in the lagoon. Before the Quilotoa town there are an indigenous gallery that is visited to admire and learn more about this entrepreneur and artisan people. A guinea pig can be seen while is circling in the roasting. Quilotoa offers a wide variety of activities from which to choose: hiking, kayaking, photography or just enjoy this peacefull place from the look-out point. The activity that travellers enjoy the most is to walk down at the bottom of the crater to look at the lagoon and return. if your physical condition is not the best one, the return could be assisted by a local man who rent mules to come back to the viewpoint. After a wonderfull day is time to come back to Quito.

Our tour begins in Quito and we will venture with our professional guide along the paths of the imposing Chimborazo. The summit of the volcano reaches 6310 meters, a challenge for mountaineering lovers. 2: Canon del Rio Toachi

It is a product of the pyroclastic flows from the eruption of the Quilotoa volcano. The last eruption happened around 1280 and was one of the largest volcanic eruptions in the past 1000 years. However geological excavations of the site suggest that the canyon itself is around 1800 years old, meaning that it was formed by a previous eruption. The flow of lava from Quilotoa was responsible for generating the undeniably spectacular canyon, which is home to wildlife, forests and a river. The canyon runs from the Quilotoa volcano and eventually fades into the landscape.

3: Laguna Quilotoa

Quilotoa is a water-filled crater lake and the most western volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3-kilometre (2 mi)-wide caldera was formed by the collapse of this dacite volcano following a catastrophic VEI-6 eruption about 800 years ago, which produced pyroclastic flows and lahars that reached the Pacific Ocean, and spread an airborne deposit of volcanic ash throughout the northern Andes. The caldera has since accumulated a 250-metre-deep (820 ft) crater lake, which has a greenish color as a result of dissolved minerals. Fumaroles are found on the lake floor and hot springs occur on the eastern flank of the volcano.

Antisana is a stratovolcano of the northern Andes of Ecuador. It is the fourth highest volcano of the country (5.753 m - 18,874 ft), and is located 60 kilometers southeast from Quito. It is a perfect volcanic cone, compound by two volcanic cones; the oldest one was eroded by an old glacier. Your tour guide will pick you up at 7:00 a.m. from your hotel in Quito, and then he will drive you straight through the eastern mountain range, until the village of Pintag, where you start to drive uphill way to the Ecological Reserve.

During our stop at the Antisana Grassland, we may encounter one of the rarest birds, the Andean Ibis. Other species you may also see include the Cinereous Harrier (possibly observed along the way), Variable Hawk, Carunculated Caracara, Tawny Antpitta, Paramo Pipit, Ash-breasted Sierra Finch, Plain-capped Ground Tyrant, Chestnut-winged Cinclodes, Aplomado Falcon, and others.
In this area is the Mica lagoon, which is a vital source of water for Quito.

We will enjoy a panoramic view of the Antisana Volcano from the main road. This magnificent and historic place will remind us that it was once visited by renowned naturalists, explorers, and scientists centuries ago. The volcano was first visited by the naturalist explorer Alexander Von Humbolt in 1802. The volcano tops out 18,713 feet high being the fourth highest peak on the Middle of the World country. The last eruptive process occurred between 1590 to 1600. The area is dominated by the imposing Antisana Volcano, offering panoramic views and a dramatic backdrop to the Andes landscapes. On the way back, we can take a break to have lunch at Tambo Condor. This place has a viewpoint from where you can see the Andean Condor's nest. Also, there are feeders which are frequently visited by different species of hummingbirds such as the Shining Sunbeam, Giant Hummingbird or rarely the place is visited by the Black Tailed Trainbearer and the Andean-Tit spaintail. 1: Otavalo Market

We will begin our day biking down from the foothills of Imbabura volcano. We will start descending on grass and dirt patched paths and roads that connect local indigenous peoples farms. Along the way we will pass corn and quinoa plantationsstaples in the local diet. Once at the base of the volcano we will leisurely continue on along the side of the San Pablo Lake while taking in the spectacular panorama of seemingly endless mountains accompanied by the gentle winds coming across the lake. Later we will visit Peguche, a town where we will visit an indigenous artisan family who will teach us how they weave and make their clothing. The bike ride will take about four hours total afterwards which we will head towards the Otavalo market where you can stroll through aisles of local handicrafts in search of the perfect souvenir to take home to remember your visit to Ecuador!

1: Reserva Chakana- Hacienda Antisanilla

Pick-up from your hotel at 6:00 am. This trip will take you through a great scenery in the Ecuadorian Andes. Visit Hacienda Antisanilla Chakana Reserve, a 7,000-acre conservation land to safeguard Ecuadors most important population of Andean Condors. The altitudinal range covered is from 10.000 to 12.000 ft asl . We'll spend the entire day in the area, watching for Andean condors (should be easy!) and other beautiful birds like the Ecuadorian Hillstar feeding on unique flowers of the Chuquiraga shrub, we even have to keep our eyes open for Spectacled Bears. The paramo is rich in important food sources for the bears mostly herbivorous diet; The Andean Bear's main food source in the area is a type of ground paramo bromeliad Puya sp. which is pretty abundant in this ecosystem and has a sweet juice heart. The area has a road system and trails of varying difficulty, allowing you to cover big extensions of territory in a short period of time.
