WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Cotopaxi National Park

Adventure starts in the Quito city that is located at 2890m or 9000 ft above sea level. The Cotopaxi National Park is located 77km on the south of Quito. When you arrive at the main entrance of the National Park is a good moment to taste an energy drink known as Coca Tea. This andean beverage was drunk by Incas to mitigate certain discomforts caused by effects of the altitude. Afterwards, the vehicle will take us to the lower area of the Park which altitude is 3900m or 12795ft above seal level. On this altitude is located the Limpiopungo Lagoon. The lacuna is a perfect place to start the hiking around in one hour or so. The wildlife that sorrounds the lagoon are wild horses or rabbits, andean gulls, coots, lapwings and sandpipers. Occasionally, the Andean Condor are planning the Park and could be spotted up in the distance. The tour continues driving to the next tourist attraction.

2: Laguna Quilotoa

After 2-hour drive from the Cotopaxi National Park is located the Quilotoa Lagoon. Quilotoa is a water-fill caldera that tops out at 3800m or 12467 ft above sea level. This lagoon shows up different colors, it depends if the day is sunny or cloudy. You can be as active or relaxed as you like in the lagoon. Before the Quilotoa town there are an indigenous gallery that is visited to admire and learn more about this entrepreneur and artisan people. A guinea pig can be seen while is circling in the roasting. Quilotoa offers a wide variety of activities from which to choose: hiking, kayaking, photography or just enjoy this peacefull place from the look-out point. The activity that travellers enjoy the most is to walk down at the bottom of the crater to look at the lagoon and return. if your physical condition is not the best one, the return could be assisted by a local man who rent mules to come back to the viewpoint. After a wonderfull day is time to come back to Quito.

Chimborazo volcano, located in the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve, is the highest mountain in Ecuador and the closest to the sun. Its dreamscapes invite us to dream higher. Our tour begins in Quito and we will venture with our professional guide along the paths of the imposing Chimborazo. The summit of the volcano reaches 6310 meters, a challenge for mountaineering lovers. On our tour we will explore until 5100 meters above sea level, where the mystical lagoon Condor Cocha is located, surrounded by moorland flora and local fauna such as the vicuña. 2: Canon del Rio Toachi

It is a product of the pyroclastic flows from the eruption of the Quilotoa volcano. The last eruption happened around 1280 and was one of the largest volcanic eruptions in the past 1000 years. However geological excavations of the site suggest that the canyon itself is around 1800 years old, meaning that it was formed by a previous eruption. The flow of lava from Quilotoa was responsible for generating the undeniably spectacular canyon, which is home to wildlife, forests and a river. The canyon runs from the Quilotoa volcano and eventually fades into the landscape.

3: Laguna Quilotoa

Quilotoa is a water-filled crater lake and the most western volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3-kilometre (2 mi)-wide caldera was formed by the collapse of this dacite volcano following a catastrophic VEI-6 eruption about 800 years ago, which produced pyroclastic flows and lahars that reached the Pacific Ocean, and spread an airborne deposit of volcanic ash throughout the northern Andes. The caldera has since accumulated a 250-metre-deep (820 ft) crater lake, which has a greenish color as a result of dissolved minerals. Fumaroles are found on the lake floor and hot springs occur on the eastern flank of the volcano.

Antisana is a stratovolcano of the northern Andes of Ecuador. It is the fourth highest volcano of the country (5.753 m - 18,874 ft), and is located 60 kilometers southeast from Quito. It is a perfect volcanic cone, compound by two volcanic cones; the oldest one was eroded by an old glacier. Your tour guide will pick you up at 7:00 a.m. from your hotel in Quito, and then he will drive you straight through the eastern mountain range, until the village of Pintag, where you start to drive uphill way to the Ecological Reserve.

This tour will start at the hotel lobby by 8:00 am, and then it will be an hour drive towards Antisana Ecological Reserve located at southeast area of Quito City.
This magical park has over 300,000 acres of pure life and nature in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. Also, the impressive Antisana Volcano, the fourth highest mountain of Ecuador.
While there, we will visit La Mica, a beautiful lake where after a brief explanation with pictures, we will go for a hike around it (approximately two hours and a half, it could be less, depending of the weather conditions and you).

Biking into the Pululahua Crater

During our first day adventure, we will go by car to the entrance of the Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve where we will start biking on an old secondary dirt road surrounded by beautiful landscapes of colorful mountains. After descending for about two hours we will enter a lush forest. This area is generally cloudy as this is where the hot current coming from the Pacific reaches the cold altitudes of the sierra and condenses creating a hugely diverse ecosystem. We will have lunch at the roadside and then visit the Equator Solar Museum after which we will travel by car to the Hacienda. Biking to Otavalo

In the morning we will continue our biking expedition driving up to the foothills of Imbabura volcano. We will start descending on grass and dirt patched paths and roads that connect local indigenous peoples farms. Along the way, we will see corn and quinoa plantations--staples in the local diet. Once at the base of the volcano we will continue riding along the side of San Pablo Lake, and later head over to Peguche Falls. There we will visit an indigenous family of artisans who will teach us how they weave and make their clothing. Our final stop will be the Otavalo Market, the largest indigenous market in Ecuador, where you can spend some time shopping for unique and colorful souvenirs. Biking Cotopaxi Volcano

After an early breakfast we will drive south down the Pan-American highway. Our ride will take place in Cotopaxi National Park named after one of the highest active volcanoes on earth, which at nineteen thousand feet, is the most beautiful volcano in Ecuador. We will bike next to the volcanos base, on dirt roads and single tracks surrounded by an other-worldly landscape dotted by rocks strew about by the volcano during its last major eruption. For lunch we will picnic within views of Incan ruins and then depending on how the group feels will continue on biking around for a couple of hours longer. Biking Quilotoa Volcano

In the morning we will travel to the nearby Ilinizas ecological reserve. This area is known for local art and we will have some time to visit some of the painting and handicraft galleries of the local people who dedicate themselves to their craft. At Quilotoa there is the option to enter into the crater hiking to take in the stunning views and infinite masterpiece of turquoises and blues. Later, we take an epic MTB ride around the rim of the magnificent crate lake. The first part of the ride is a single track that gives you 360 views of the reserve before descending on a narrow dirt road. Ending our day, we will have a picnic in the scenic and hilly town of San Pedro Guayama before driving back to the lodge. Overnight: Cuello de Luna or similar Meals included: Breakfast and lunch

Biking Chimborazo Volcano

We will continue this amazing expedition driving south to the central Andes, passing Chimborazo Volcano. At over twenty thousand feet, Chimborazo is considered the highest peak in the world if measured from the center of the planet. We will take a short walk to the basecamp of the volcano at sixteen thousand feet and then start biking on an exclusive single track. Along the ride we will see wild vicunas; small relatives of the llama who make their home in the Andes and are very common at this reserve. We will have a picnic in front of the volcano and then drive to the town of Baños, a great place to go out to have a cocktail and dance salsa. In the morning after breakfast we will go by car up the mountains of the Llanganates National Park. Legend has it there is a hidden Incan treasure in this area and although many explorers venture in trying to find it, it has yet to have been found. We will start biking on asphalt road a bit up the hill to warm up and then we will descend about five thousand feet. An impressive change from the heights of the majestic Andes to the entrance of the lush Amazon Basin. Afterwards we will visit Pailon del Diablo Waterfall so we can refresh a bit, have lunch and then drive to Quito. Overnight: Dann Carlton or similar Meals included: Breakfast

Once at the base of the volcano we will leisurely continue on along the side of the San Pablo Lake while taking in the spectacular panorama of seemingly endless mountains accompanied by the gentle winds coming across the lake.
