Archaeological Route - Full Day
- Type:Sightseeing Tours
- Duration:7 Hours
The country's most famous and most visited Mayan sites are Joya de Ceren, San Andres and Tazumal. 'Joya de Ceren'Jewel of the village of Ceren. The name is more than it implies. It is a jewel of a discovery. An easy 21-mile drive from the capital one may inspect a once-thriving 15-acre Maya village that lies suspended in time. Joya de Ceren had lain hidden for over 15 centuries under a mantle of gray and black volcanic ash, and today archaeologists are now uncovering ancient homes. What is most intriguing here is that there are no towering temples or pyramids. Instead one peers down into excavation pits to see where people once lived - not worshipped.
Tazumal: El Salvador's largest ancient site is Tazumal (an hour's drive beyond Joya de Ceren) where visitors may inspect a large Pipil temple complex that has been partially restored. The complex dates to 5,000 BC. A small museum is located beside the ruins, and nearby is El Trapiche, a 70 ft. high pre-Classic temple mound.
San Andres: this archaeological site is the second largest in El Salvador behind Tazumal. The site consists of two ceremonial plazas (North and South), ringed by mounds and pyramids. Occupied by ethnic Maya and Pipil groups, San Andres was constructed from AD 600 to 900 and originally consisted of nearly 200 structures. Little is known about the decline of San Andres, which flourished in the heyday of Maya glory along with Tikal, Palenque and Copan
On this tour you will visit the main Archaeological Sites of Maya in El Salvador: Joya de Ceren, a Mayan village that was covered by the ashes of a nearby volcano, San Andres a Ceremonial Site with pyramids and plazas, Tazumal the largest pyramid at El Salvador located at Chalchuapa. You will also visit the city of Santa Ana with its beautiful City Center. Free time for lunch (meals not included).

- Type:Sightseeing Tours
- Duration:5 Hours
The Town of Suchitoto, which means 'The Place of the Birds and Flowers' in Nahuat, the indigenous language of this region contains an interesting mixture of both ancient and modern customs.
With narrow cobblestone streets and fine architecture, Suchitoto has a fascinating history, and is perhaps the best-preserved colonial town in El Salvador. The town was once an important colonial center for government and commerce; in 1528, the original Villa San Salvador was located here. The house-museum of Don Alejandro Coto is one of the most famous places to visit in this town. It contains a multitude of artistic and cultural memorabilia, including a library, paintings, drawings and antiques collected during the filmmaking career of its founder, Don Alejandro. The founders own artistic contributions and serves complement this from time to time as a setting for various cultural events promoted by the Permanent Festival of Art and Culture of Suchitoto.
