Ometepe Island Vacation Packages

Ometepe Island, an enigmatic island located in Lake Nicaragua, is formed by two volcanoes dramatically rising from the lake. Its name derives from the Aztec words 'Ome' meaning two, and 'Tepelth' meaning mounts. The volcanoes are joined by a low isthmus to form one island, giving it the form of an hourglass. Volcán Concepción is an active volcano with three hiking trails leading to its top, while Volcán Maderas is a dormant volcano with a majestic crater lake and a 35-meter waterfall cascading over mossy rocks into a small pool on its south side.
