DAY 1:
A full day introduction to the Amazon awaits us! From the Port of Capitania we will take 40-minute motor boat ride along the Madre de Dios River until we reach the Corto Maltes Amazonia lodge. A refreshing welcome fruit juice and a delicious lunch will give us the energy necessary to go out exploring. We will take a walking tour along a trail while our guide shows us a variety tropical trees, medicinal plants and other fascinating flora and fauna that inhabit the area. In addition, we will visit a “shiringuero” camp, where we will learn about the artisanal process of collecting latex or shiringa, one of the most important economic activities in the Madre de Dios region. During our down time at the lodge, we can relax in the pool or hammocks, have a cocktail at the bar or book a relaxing massage. As night falls it is time for the exciting “caiman safari,” a nighttime boat ride that will take us in search of these impressive reptiles and other animals that live on the banks of the river.

DAY 2:
Today we will visit one of the most beautiful lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve: Lake Sandoval. We will depart at sunrise, for a 20-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River and then take a 3 km walk through the lush vegetation of the tropical jungle. The tour will allow us to admire gigantic trees and we will be on the lookout for encounters with other fascinating species of flora and fauna. Once we arrive at Lake Sandoval, aboard small rowboats, we will set off in search of giant otters, charming mammals that are in danger of extinction. We may also see species of reptiles, monkeys, such as cotomonkeys or capuchins, and characteristic birds such as the “shansho” and kingfishers in their natural habitat. Our guide will find the perfect spot on the lake, and we will enjoy breakfast while observing the impressive environment that surrounds us. Back on dry land we will go to an observation tower, designed for observing birds and other species from the heights of the forest canopy. We will also visit a chestnut camp, another of the most important economic activities in the area.

DAY 3:
We begin our last day early, leaving at dawn for a 20 – minute walk that will take us to the parrot clay lick. There, from a strategic point, we can see between three and five different species of parrots and macaws, birds that usually arrive in the morning in search of their food: a special type of clay that is essential for their metabolism. It will be a tremendous spectacle of sound and color! After breakfast, we will leave the lodge to make our way back to the city of Puerto Maldonado. We will have the opportunity to visit the local market in the city before going to the airport, where we can discover the immense variety of exotic local products and get to know this place that is so active and important in the daily lives of the locals. Plus, it can be a good place to find a last-minute souvenir.
