    Colonia is a town steeped in history. Built primarily by the Portuguese, the style of houses, and cobblestoned streets, are reminiscent of old Lisbon. The winding streets and colorful houses are a delight to explore. The historic quarter, Barrío Historico, sits on a small peninsula jutting out into the river, was named a UNESCO heritage site in 1995.
