Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 08:00 AM - 05:00 PMEnd pointBar HarborThis tour will end at 1 West St, beside Boardwalk.WHAT TO EXPECT1: Bass HarborThis traditional fishing village used to be known as McKinley. Howd it get that name? When the federal government wanted to establish a post office nearby, they asked the villagers what it should be called. Allegedly, the villagers replied, You can name it after the president for all we care! So they named it after William McKinley! As it turns out, their descendants werent particularly fond of this name, so they petitioned to change it to Bass Harbor in 1966.10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free2: Bass Harbor Head LighthouseThis is one of the three light stations managed by Acadia, but its the most photographed along the main coast. And who doesn't love a lighthouse? This one dates back to 1858! Unfortunately, neither the tower or keeper's house are open to the public. But hey, there might be a good reason for that. One of the more recent keepers, Robert Burchell, moved in with his family in 2004. He said most of the tourists were pretty cool and respectful, but some were too curious and tried to open the door to his house!
10 minutes -Admission Ticket FreePretty Marsh Picnic Area (Pass by)Coming up soon is the Pretty Marsh Picnic Area, featuring towering trees and a stairway that descends right to the shore. If it's near a low tide, this is a perfect place for tide-pooling. Tide pools are those little pockets of sea water left behind on rocky shorelines when the tide recedes. The best time to discover these miniature ocean ecosystems is during low tide.
Note: The tour is over 57 miles long, with more than 48 audio stories, and takes about 2-3 hours to complete.
Buy once, use for one year! Ideal for extended visits and return trips over the next 12 months.3: Ship Harbor Nature TrailThe Ship Harbor Trailhead is coming up. This easy 1-mile hike should take about half an hour. It follows the shore of a narrow cove and offers great views, but some say its haunted! The story goes that in 1741, 200 people sailed from Ireland to Philadelphia, fleeing persecution from England. A storm wrecked the ship on this coast. Everyone escaped to shore, but they were stranded. No aid arrived and many perished. Some swam to the mainland for help, but were never heard from again! Finally, Native people found the survivors and carried word to the English settlements. Rescue arrived at last. Or did it?
10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free4: Wonderland Trail TrailheadThe Wonderland Trailhead is coming up soon. Its an easy 1.5-mile hike that takes you right to the waters edge. It should take less than an hour to complete. This is also a super popular spot for birdwatching and exploring tide pools!10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free5: Seawall Acadia National ParkAcadias natural seawall is coming up soon on our right. Nature did some pretty fine work when creating this seawall! Ocean storms built it over time. When waves break, they carry rocks from the bottom of the beach all the way to the shore. Over and over. As the tides ebb and flow, the heavier stones stack at the top, while the lighter stones settle at the bottom. The result is a natural wall like this one!10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free6: Charlotte Rhoades Butterfly ParkThe park gets its name from Charlotte Rhoades, a former resident of Southwest Harbor back in the mid 1900s. In 1970, her family generously gave the property to the town with one request: They wanted it to be a peaceful park for children and their families. The town delivered on their promise!
10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free7: Echo LakeEcho Lake and Beach are coming up soon. The lake is the most popular freshwater swimming hole on the island! Trails that climb both Beech Cliff and Beach Mountain also start from here, offering some pretty marvelous views on a sunny day. The Beech Cliff trail is a fairly strenuous 2-mile hike that will take about two hours to complete. Although this trail doesnt go all the way to the top of Beech Mountain, it has a series of ladders that will lead you through some really cool cliff formations.10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free8: Little Long PondWere almost at the Little Long Pond Trail. The 2-mile trail is an easy hike that should take less than an hour to complete. The trail loop takes you through the woods on old carriage roads and past a field beside Little Long Pond.10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free9: Seal Harbor BeachSeal Harbor Beach is just ahead. Its a large sand and pebble beach thats typically less crowded than Sand Beach. Theres a diving platform if youre in the mood for a splash. Its also a really good spot to search for sea glass washed onto the shore!10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free10: Seal HarborThe town of Seal Harbor is coming up soon. The area around it has long been a haven for the rich and famous. Some of these little roads veering off to the right lead to an enclave of wealthy summer homes, including Skyland, the Cottage that Henry Ford built in 1925 for his son. Do you know who owns it now? Martha Stewart! Since 1997.
10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free11: Otter CreekWe're approaching Otter Creek, a small village just south of Bar Harbor. In a way, this village is an island unto itself. How? Well, its completely surrounded by Acadia National Park! But how did that happen?10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free12: The TarnThe lake coming up on our left is called the Tarn. The name comes from an Old Norse word tjorn meaning small mountain lake. It formed when the weight of a glacier simply depressed the ground beneath it. After a few too many dry summers in a row, the Tarn has become less of a pond and more of a marsh.10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free13: The Jackson LaboratoryIn 1929, the Jackson Laboratory began operating as one of the worlds first centers for the study of cancer genetics. George Dorr donated the 13 acres of land that the campus was built on. Is there anything this guy didnt do?10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free14: Bar HarborBar Harbor is just ahead. But did you know it wasnt always Bar Harbor? Back in 1796, it was known as the Town of Eden. The name only changed in 1918! Its the largest community on the island and has been a hotspot for summer vacationers for over two centuries, and thats not liable to change anytime soon!10 minutes -Admission Ticket FreeADDITIONAL INFOPublic transportation options are available nearbySuitable for all physical fitness levelsHow to access: Once you book a tour, youll get a confirmation email and text with instructions: Download the separate tour app by Action Enter the password Download the tour MUST DO while in strong wifi/cellular Works offline after downloadHow to start touring: Open Actions separate audio tour guide app once onsite. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 09:00 AM - 05:00 PMEnd pointThis activity ends back at the meeting point.WHAT TO EXPECT1: Old SoakerAs we continue driving through Acadia, we'll pass Old Soaker. The waves crash against the vertical face of the rock, shooting water up into the air.1 hour -Admission Ticket FreePark Loop Road (Pass by)Our self-guided driving tour enters the famous Park Loop Road of Acadia. We'll follow this loop all around the park, ending at the summit of Cadillac mountain. The Jackson Laboratory (Pass by)We'll then pass the beautiful Beaver Pond, where we'll catch a glimpse of some beavers and their dams if we're lucky. We'll also see Jackson Labs on the other side, and we'll learn about its impact on Bar Harbor.Precipice Trail (Pass by)As our tour continues, we'll pass the Precipice Trail. This is a great hike for those in the mood for a little physical detour. It's also home to the endangered peregrine falcon! These birds tend to build their nests on high rocky ledges, where non-flying animals cant reach the eggs. The steep face of this mountain is perfect for that!Egg Rock Overlook (Pass by)This spot looks out over Bar Harbors Frenchman Bay. You might be able to spot a little island in the bay. This is the home of Egg Rock Lighthouse.Ocean Path (Pass by)Here we've got a second option for a detour: Ocean Path Trail. If the steep inclines of Pecipice Trail weren't your style, the gentle, winding path here is a great alternative.Sand Beach (Pass by)Next up: Sandy Beach! At just 290 yards long, the beach is small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in fascinating natural history. You might notice a slight greenish tint to the sand. Thats because of the sea urchins!Hulls Cove Visitor Center (Pass by)We enter Maine's famous Acadia National Park at the Hull's Cove Visitor Center. As we begin to explore this beautiful natural preserve, we'll learn about the rich forests and why the foliage here is so vibrant in the fall.
Note: The tour is over 20+ miles long per tour, with more than 30+ audio stories per tour, and takes about 2-3 hours per tour to complete.
Buy once, use for one year! Ideal for extended visits and return trips over the next 12 months.Thunder Hole (Pass by)We'll also see Thunder Hole, a natural rock inlet where waves crash with a thunderous boom.Monument Cove (Pass by)Monument Cove is another example of the seemingly miraculous force of nature. Water and time have worn away at the granite over the centuries, leaving behind a twenty-foot tall pillar of rock that looks like a man-made sculpture.Gorham Mountain Trailhead (Pass by)As our tour continues through Acadia's Park Loop Road, Gorham Mountain rises to the right. The steep trail up this mountain features a false summit, where it appears to plateau before continuing up further. But both the false and real summit offers a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape!Otter Cliff (Pass by)Next up as we drive as the stunning Otter Cliff and Otter Cove. At the top of Otter Cliff, its a steep 110-foot drop down to the chilly Atlantic.Bubbles Divide Trail (Pass by)If this rock seems like it doesnt belong here, thats because it doesnt. The same glacier that coasted over Jordan Pond also dragged this massive rock across the land and deposited it here.Jordan Pond (Pass by)Our self-guided tour brings us to Jordan Pond next. We'd highly recommend pausing here to appreciate the views and the restaurant. Jordan Pond was carved out of the earth twenty thousand years ago by a massive glacier.Bubble Pond (Pass by)Bubble Pond is another glacial remnant, hollowed out of the ground tens of thousands of years ago by a massive ice sheet descending on the island from the Arctic.Eagle Lake Acadia National Park (Pass by)Our drive brings us past Eagle Lake, which serves as the water source for Bar Harbor. Its also a food source for local birds.2: Cadillac Mountain Summit TrailFinally, we begin the drive up to the summit of Acadia's crown jewel: Cadillac Mountain. The views from the top are unmatched!2 hours -Admission Ticket FreeHoly Redeemer Catholic Church (Pass by)Next up are two churches. Theyll both leave an impression but in totally different ways!St. Saviour's Episcopal Church (Pass by)You cant miss the church because the most unique thing about it is its design. Or rather lack of design! In fact, the building looks like it's made of several mismatched parts. Each one represents a different historical era.Jesup Memorial Library (Pass by)This little library's history goes all the way back to 1875. It all began with a casual conversation among some of Bar Harbor's wealthy summer residents. A public library would establish Bar Harbor as a REAL town. They pitched the idea to the town.Abbe Museum (Pass by)Pause here again, just past the School Street intersection. Look at the Abbe Museum on your right.Village Green (Pass by)Bar Harbor's Village Green has some star power behind it the layout and landscaping were done by Beatrix Farrand, the woman who designed the White House's Rose Garden. Her design still remains intact to this day. You can't mess with perfection!Frenchman Bay (Pass by)You're walking along the coast of Frenchman Bay. Wait why is it named for the French?
Simple! It's because of all the French expeditions that took place here in the 1500s. Long before the land could be settled by European colonists, it had to be charted, mapped and evaluated. Frances Samuel de Champlain did just that. While Spains conquistadors looked for gold in South America, the French focused on the fur trade in the North.Balance Rock Inn (Pass by)If this rock looks out of place here that's because it is! Balance Rock is a glacial erratic. That means that a glacier pulled this boulder from a granite deposit up north and deposited it here.Grant Park (Pass by)Grant Park marks the site of a building that no longer stands. See the grassy area you're looking at right now? This was once a personal tennis court!Bar Harbor Inn & Spa (Pass by)Right next to Grant Park, on your left, you can't miss the sprawling seaside resort, Bar Harbor Inn.
In 1887, this building started out as the Mount Desert Reading Room: a place for the well-educated wealthy summer residents of Bar Harbor to meet and discuss literature. The parking area is very big. You will see your guide in a Grey minivan with Acadia on the license plate and signs that say Bar Harbor Coastal Tours.Pickup pointsThe supplier will pick up customers from select hotels, or customers can make their own way to the starting pointOptions and Start timeAcadia Woody's Cadillac Loop 3 Hour Driving Tour:01:00 PM, 09:00 AMEnd pointThis activity ends back at the meeting point.Pickup detailsYour Guide will arrive 15 minutes prior to your tour start time and park outside the lobby of your hotel. Look for a grey minivan with "ACADIA" on the license plates and signs that read Bar Harbor Coastal Tours on each side. If you are at a campground, your Guide will be parked near the campground office. We can meet you curbside if you fly in to Bar Harbor/Hancock County Airport.WHAT TO EXPECT1: Cadillac MountainCadillac Mountain is the highest point of land inside Acadia National Park measuring a quarter of a mile, 1530 ft., at peak elevation. The highest point of land on the eastern seaboard, Cadillac Mountain also marks the spot as the first place to see the sunrise in the contiguous United States. We are able to drive to Cadillac summit which has spectacular views of the tiny village of Bar Harbor, the Porcupine islands, cruise ships out in Frenchman's bay and the Atlantic Ocean for miles in most directions. The summit has a great granite & cement path that takes about 15 or 20 minutes to circle for those who want a little stretch or walk.1 hour -Admission Ticket Included2: Sand BeachSand beach is a stop where you can go down to the beach for pictures. One of the best places during the excursion to get right up next to the Atlantic Ocean. I would suggest about 10 or 15 minutes to enjoy this stop, take a short walk and have some pictures.15 minutes -Admission Ticket Included3: Thunder HoleThunder Hole is one of the most popular ocean-side attractions inside Acadia National Park. It is a significant formation of granite shoreline sculpted by the Atlantic Ocean's pounding waves and Mother Nature since the last Ice Age. At a few hours before the high tide, you have the best chance of hearing the thunderous sound of the ocean pounding into Thunder Hole's cave. It is named "Thunder Cave" on some old maps. If you get too close you can get drenched. You will feel the granite shake underneath your feet if the wave is big enough. The granite has a beautiful salmon-pink color all along the shoreline nearby, and at Thunder Hole in particular. During stormier days, Acadia National Park's rangers will restrict or shut down access to this attraction.15 minutes -Admission Ticket Included4: Park Loop RoadThe 27 mile Park Loop road is the major sight seeing drive inside Acadia National Park. At the average speed limit, it is possible to drive its entirety in just about one hour. Most groups like to stop multiple times. When we visit places along the way, you will have a bit of time to get out and take pictures and walk about to explore. Those who prefer less walking are able to see most of Acadia National Park's highlights right from the comfort of their seat.1 hour -Admission Ticket IncludedOtter Cliff (Pass by)Acadia National Park's loop road takes us over and around Otter Point. Otter Point is the highest cliff face on the entire seaboard of the contiguous United States. A beautiful granite sided two level road was constructed for the best vistas right from the vehicle. The ringing buoy nearby is a charming sound to most visitors.Little Hunters Beach (Pass by)Little Hunter's Beach is a classic example of a cobblestone beach. Cobblestone beaches are more common in this area and are not so well protected like most sandy beaches. On a cobblestone beach, the loose sand and other smaller objects are washed out to sea, smoothing bigger rocks, or cobblestones, which remain on the beach during a never-ending "sanding" process. You can listen for the unique sound of cobblestones clicking together as the waves go in and out. Being so close to the Bay of Fundy, home to the most extreme tide shifts in the world, gives the Maine coast big tide changes from low to high, twice a day. Most coves are not protected from the open ocean and the loose sand gets dragged out with every tide, smoothing and leaving behind the bigger rocks too heavy to dislodge.Sieur de Monts Spring (Pass by)Sieur de Monts Spring is a natural spring in Acadia. George Dorr, Acadia National Park's first superintendent and founding father, deemed the spring, "The Sweet Waters of Acadia." The Wildwood gardens are popular for a walk if you have enough time. Acadia National Park's Nature center is located here and usually has a Ranger to speak with for questions. The Abbe Museum has a small facility on the grounds open during the summer season. It has artifacts and history of the indigenous tribes of the area.Carriage Roads (Pass by)During your tour you will see examples of the Carriage Road system inside Acadia National Park. Constructed and designed by John Rockefeller Jr. during the development of the park, it runs for about 50 miles around the lakes, ponds and mountains of Acadia. A drive by the Wildwood Stables lets us admire some of the horses going on, or coming back from a pleasurable trot on the Carriage Road system.Jordan Pond (Pass by)Jordan Pond is a fresh water pond along Acadia National Park's loop road. Simply driving along the road affords beautiful views of Jordan Pond as we pass through the valley of several interior mountains here. Jordan Pond is home to the only restaurant inside Acadia National Park. The Jordan Pond House restaurant is famous for serving Tea & Popovers pond-side to its diners. The biggest gift shop of Acadia National Park is located here. Carriage roads and hiking trails exist along Jordan Pond's banks.Eagle Lake Acadia National Park (Pass by)Eagle Lake is a fresh water lake situated at the base of Cadillac mountain and several others and is easily visible from Acadia National Park's loop road. You also have the opportunity for great views at a pull over spot about a third of the way up Cadillac Mountain summit road. John Rockefeller Jr. made sure his famous Carriage Roads made its way around Eagle Lake below. A six mile Carriage Road loop goes around the lake and connects to the rest of Acadia National Park's Carriage Road system.Bar Harbor (Pass by)Acadia National Park surrounds the village of Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor is a quaint New England fishing port and a sea food lover's paradise. Lobster doesn't get any fresher or more succulent than from these very icy Atlantic Ocean waters. Bar Harbor is visible from many different points as you move along during your excursion. The best view is from the summit of Cadillac Mountain one quarter of a mile above Bar Harbor. We drive through most of the village pointing out historical interests.ADDITIONAL INFOInfants and small children can ride in a pram or strollerSuitable for all physical fitness levelsNot wheelchair accessibleThis tour/activity will have a maximum of 7 travelersCANCELLATION POLICYFor a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.(For information purpose only - definite start times will show on voucher, once confirmed) -

This small spit of sand isnt even 300 yards long, but its still one of the best swimming spots in Acadia. The cliffs on either side shelter the cove and make for some great scenery for beachgoers. If youre in the mood for some beachy fun, this is the only sandy beach along the trail, so dont be afraid to check it out! Just be prepared for some awfully cold water!

And if youre here a couple of hours before high tide, you may have already figured out where it gets that name.15 minutes -Admission Ticket Free3: Monument CoveOn our left is Monument Cove. To see it, turn left and follow the short walking path through the trees. In just a hundred feet, it opens out into a breathtaking vista from atop a flat rocky cliff.10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free4: Sand Beach OverlookComing up on our left is Sand Beach Overlook, offering great views of the beach we left behind at the beginning of our tour. The Thunder Hole Gift Shop is coming up on our right. The shop also has restrooms available for customers.15 minutes -Admission Ticket Free6: Otter CliffThe cliff just ahead is known as Otter Cliff. It stands 110 feet above the sea and features some of the best views youll find on the Ocean Path! You might think the cliff gets its name from sea otters that swim off the shore, but thats not quite right. In fact, there are no sea otters here at all! So whats the deal?
10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free7: Otter Point OverlookYoure walking now toward the southernmost tip of this part of Mount Desert Island: Otter Point Overlook. You can stay on the path and take pictures from there, or you can walk down onto the rocks nearer the water. But be careful if you go off the walking path. The rocks can be wet and slippery.10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free8: Gorham Mountain TrailOn our right, just across the Park Loop Road, is the Gorham Mountain Trail. This moderately challenging 3.5-mile hike climbs almost 700 feet and features some truly stunning views along the way. Feel free to check it out if youve got about 90 minutes to spare!
10 minutes -Admission Ticket Free9: Boulder BeachWere passing Boulder Beach on our left. True to its name, this 400-foot stretch of beach is entirely covered in big boulders! But how does that happen? What leads to a beach being made up of boulders instead of sand?10 minutes -Admission Ticket FreeADDITIONAL INFOPublic transportation options are available nearbySuitable for all physical fitness levelsHow To Access: After booking, youll get an email and text with setup instructions and password (search audio tour in emails and texts). Rockefeller Jr. between 1913 and 1940. Originally conceived as a way to give city folk an escape to the natural world, the carriage road system wanders through some of the best forested and lakeside scenery and is enjoyed by bikers, hikers, and horseback and horse-drawn carriage riders alike.
