1: Lower Chatanika State Recreation Area

The clearwater of the chatanika and chena rivers are abundant with fish, such as grayling, burbot, humpback whitefish, northern pike, and sheefish. The rivers also have a run of king, silver, and chum salmon in late July through October although fishing has been closed due to low returns. Some of the land animals in the area include black and brown bears, moose, wolves, river otters, and beavers.

As the tour approaches Fairbanks a stop will be made at Joy, Alaska at the Arctic Circle Trading Post (60 miles from Fairbanks). Here guests on the Arctic Circle Aurora Drive will meet their new Aurora guide who will continue the story of life in Alaska's Arctic and work with guests to look for the Aurora.

Joy is located outside of the Fairbanks North Star Borough so away from the city lights and the tour places guests there during the peak activity time as identified by the scientists studying the lights. The Arctic Circle Trading Post is heated and there is hot water for complimentary coffee, tea, cocoa and cider.

Time at Joy can vary depending on weather and road conditions (how long it took to get there). One could expect anywhere between 1 - 2 hours. Return to Fairbanks is between 3:30 - 4:30 AM.

Set off from your departure point in Fairbanks and journey to the Arctic Circle in a climate-controlled van. Traverse the Dalton Highway, keeping your eyes open for wildlife as you cross the Yukon River.

Arrive at your destination, where day and night blend together, and begin to immerse yourself in the indigenous culture. Take a guided walk through the artic landscape, stop to take photos, and then savor a delightful snack and beverage. Lunch is also available for purchase at Yukon River Camp.

Upon reaching the Arctic Circle, one of the five markers of latitude (Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn, Equator & Antarctic Circle) you will be met with a glorious site. The weather in this region can range from extreme cold in the winter months (September to May) to temperate heat, as high as 90 * Fahrenheit (32 * Celsius) in the summer months. (May to end of August).

Hop out and stretch your legs, take a walk and capture photos of this unique location.

After around half hour of sightseeing, enjoy flipping through your photos with your official Arctic Circle Certificate in hand. Sit back and enjoy the journey back to Fairbanks on this one of a kind trip.

1: Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point

Here you will find informational displays about the pipeline and an example of a pig, the device used to clean and inspect the inside of the pipeline.

It took 70,000 construction workers and $8 billion of investment capital to build the famous 4-foot silver thread that snakes its way through 800 miles of Alaskan wilderness to reach the nation's thirsty refineries, crossing mountain ranges, earthquake zones, permafrost, and rivers. Some 420 miles of the pipeline are elevated (with 554 animal crossings), and outside Fairbanks is the place to see it. As you watch, consider this: Every hour, more than a million dollars of black gold flows through it.

James Dalton Highway (Pass by)

From Fairbanks, the Elliot Highway takes you about 73 miles north to the start of the Dalton Highway, traversing boreal forest hills of birch and aspen trees and tundra valleys of streams and small rivers. You will cross the mighty Yukon River and pass through the valley to Finger Mountain, a treeless high point with short walkways and kiosks to learn about the regions geology and alpine tundra. The Arctic Circle turnout has bathrooms and a picnic area.

2: Yukon River Camp

We will stop twice at Yukon River Camp. The first time is for fuel and restroom when we go north. We will stop again for dinner on our way back from the Arctic Circle.
This camp has a great location at the Yukon River Bridge at Mile 56 Dalton Highway. Winter menu at the Yukon River Noodle House includes freshly made Bahn Mi sandwiches and filling noodle soups.

We cannot guarantee that you will be able to see the aurora borealis, as Weather conditions are constantly changing and other conditions may also change. Dangerous weather conditions (heavy snow, icy roads) and emergencies may result in cancellations. Because of the natural things involved we have a NO REFUND policy. Enjoy the amazing views of the mountains and keep an eye out for wildlife such as Moose and Caribou which are often seen crossing the road on the way to Castner Glacier. Once you arrive at the starting point of the trail the hike is 3 miles (round trip) to the Ice Cave and back.PLEASE DRESS ACCORDINGLY FOR COLD WEATHER(for the Winter Tour).Enjoy the epic views of the Delta Range, an eastern section of the Alaska Range. Ice caves are exceptional because they are not only scarce, but they are located far outside zones of permafrostat low elevations (near sea level) and low latitudes (between around 30° and 70°), where they maintain a much lower average annual temperature than that of the air above. After you return from your hike we will head back to North Pole where you are going to have some free time to explore the world famous Santa Clause House.

After arriving at the resort, you'll be taken to the restaurant for a bite of lunch where you can sample some home grown Alaskan fare (optional and not included in price). Enjoy a hot or cold beverage at the bar or don your bathing suit and head to the hot springs. The revitalizing mineral water soothes muscles with its warm temperatures of 106 degrees F (41 degrees C) year-round.

Stay in the hot springs, or hit one of the many trails around the resort in the chance you might see wildlife, or just enjoy the beauty of Alaska's great outdoors.

You can also take an optional tour of the resort's greenhouse and geothermal plant to learn more about how the resort is generating its own electricity and aiming to be more self-sustaining.

2: Aurora Ice Museum

After arriving at Chena Hot Springs Resort, you'll enjoy a tour of the Aurora Ice Museum and marvel at the cool sculptures carved out of ice. You can also indulge in an Appletini served in a hand-carved ice glass (not included in price and photo ID required).

Then check out the activities available or take a stroll in the expansive grounds. You will be shown to our table in the restaurant where you can enjoy some lunch and hot or cold beverages (optional and not included in price).

Spend the rest of the afternoon soaking in the healing waters of the hot springs or wandering the surrounding trails enjoying Alaskan nature.

Rejoin your group around 4pm and return to Fairbanks, keeping an eye out for wildlife and stunning scenery along the way.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We'll pick you up from your hotel in the morning. It's a 45 minute drive North on the world famous Elliott Highway to Borealis Basecamp. We are located in the heart of the Boreal Forest, with panoramic views of the valley.

Included in your trip is a 1-hour dogsledding tour & a 30-minute long reindeer meet and greet tour.

We work with local passionate mushers who view their dogs as their family, and you will have the chance to understand this incredible sport on your ride through the snowy forest.

On this 30 minute long tour you have the chance to meet our Alaskan born reindeer. They live at Basecamp all year, eating a diet of reindeer feed and natural treats. Your tour guide will show you how reindeer live in the Arctic year round and give you the opportunity to feed and take photos with them!

Lunch is held at Latitude 65, our on-site restaurant. The menu consists of hot and cold sandwiches, noodle dishes, and a rotating menu of features and fresh soups.
