Downtown Juneau-Mount Roberts Goldbelt Tram Instructions:

Check-in/Bus details - Watch for the bus to pull into the lot directly underneath the gondola cable lines, 15-20 minutes, before the start time of the tour. We drive a white Thomas bus. Juneau Whale Tours and our cartoon whale logo is visible on each side. Our driver will be wearing a BRIGHT YELLOW HI-VIS VEST. Check-in begins when the driver is safely on the sidewalk.

Individual Dock Instructions:

AJ dock - This dock is 1 MILE AWAY from the Mount Roberts Goldbelt Tram. Use the dedicated bus outside the ship for transportation to the Tram parking lot.

Franklin Dock - 10 minute walk. Once off ship, walk on the Seawalk/Boardwalk towards town until you reach the Tram. Follow instructions above for check-in/bus details.

AS Dock - 5 minute walk. Once off the ship you will turn right on the Seawalk/Boardwalk walk until you reach the Tram. Follow instructions above for check-in/bus details.

Ships at anchor - 2 minute walk. You will be behind the Tram. Walk around the building to the front. Follow instructions above for bus/check-in details.

Auke Bay at Statter Harbor Instructions: 11497 Auke Bay Harbor Road Juneau, AK 99801. The meeting time on this end of town is 15 minutes after your tour's start time. Watch for the JWT bus pulling into Statter Harbor at approximately the same time. We arrive and exit on the side of the marina with the grey building that has a "V" shaped roof. (Not the Harbor Office building.)

*If you are planning on meeting at Statter Harbor please text your name, date and tour time; otherwise there might be a search party looking for you at the downtown pick up location.

Let us show you around the waters of Juneau Alaska! We will pick you up in our complimentary bus (30 mins each way) and take you to our custom 40' catamaran with individual seating for 20 passengers. Once aboard our vessel our experienced naturalist and captain will take you out for 2.25 hours to show you the thriving marine wildlife in SE Alaska. We have designed our vessels for this area with spacious walk around decks so you can view whales in a more intimate setting. Join us for an experience that is a step above the rest.

The Goldbelt Tram is located just steps off the cruise ship dock. The tram ascends up Mount Roberts from the lower terminal to a height of about 1,800 feet. A restaurant, theater, beer garden and retail shop are located at the top of the tramway, as well as connections to trails leading both up and down the mountain.

Meeting Location: We know where your ship is! Go straight to the boardwalk/sidewalk directly in front of your ship - Includes AJ Dock (Do NOT go into town/tram or follow ship staff directions to leave the area).

Arrival Time: Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure. Please keep your cell phone on you in case we need to get ahold of you.

How to Find Us: Look for the representative, directly outside of your ships gangway, in bright orange with an orange flag in their backpack, holding an Alaska Galore Tours / Harv and Marvs / Juneau Lighthouse Tours sign.

Accessibility & Assistance: You must be able to walk down a potentially steep tide ramp and step onto the bus and boat (foldable wheelchairs require advance notice).

Drop off point is the same as your pick up point. No other drop off locations can be accommodated. Any changes to your pick up location must be handled at least 24 hours in advance, and the tour provider must be contacted.

WHAT TO EXPECT

On this shore excursion from Juneau port, you get to relive some of the histories youll be learning about, when thousands rushed to Gold Creek and the adjacent Last Chance Basin Mine during the Gold Rush in the late 1800s.

After port pickup, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Juneau before continuing to Gold Creek and Last Chance Basin, where Joe Juneau and Richard Harris found the jackpot of a lifetime in 1880. Hear entertaining history about the Gold Rush from your informative guide, dressed in traditional 19th-century garb.

Head to a secluded section along Gold Creek, which requires a special visiting permit. Learn how to pan for gold, and then explore the creek or enter waist-high water in the demonstration trough to look for gold on your own. Take a few moments to note the surrounding building remnants of the Alaska-Juneau Mining Company, which closed in 1944 due to the WWII labor shortage.

Upon booking, please make sure that you provide the name of the Cruise ship that you will be arriving on, we will expect to pick you up at that dock. We must know where to pick you up from ahead of time, as we only have representatives available to meet at docks where we have guests scheduled. There are multiple ships in port each day. This is crucial information for the day of your tour.

Cruise ship pick-up Instructions:
We pick up directly from YOUR cruise ship dock in Juneau. No need to walk into town (or take a shuttle)!
The local representative for your tour will be wearing bright orange and carrying an orange flag, holding a green Juneau Lighthouse Tours sign.
Meet on the main boardwalk/sidewalk in front of your ship on the dock.
DO NOT GO TO THE TRAM - stay at your ships gangway.
Meeting time is 15 minutes BEFORE your tour departure time. If you cannot locate your representative, stay put and call our DISPATCH/TRANSPORT Staff.

Any changes to your pick up location must be handled at least 24 hours in advance, and the tour provider must be contacted.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your Alaska adventure begins at Juneaus main cruise ship terminal, where youll hop on an air-conditioned bus to Mendenhall Glacier. With 45 minutes to explore, youll get fantastic photo opportunities up close to the ice, plus time in the visitor center, on the trails, and at the bear-viewing platforms.

From there, youll head to the sea, where youll board a vessel built for wildlife-viewingwith comfy seats, oversized windows, a warm cabin, and a wrap-around outdoor deck. Your captain will help you spot humpback whales, seals, eagles, and more; in fact, wildlife spotting is guaranteed. A complimentary snack and beverage are provided to keep you cozy.

Returning to the harbor, your driver will escort you back to the main cruise ship terminal, with plenty of time to catch your ship.

1: Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center

You will be dropped off at the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area for a self guided stop. You will be able to overlook the glacier from Photo Point Outlook, and stop by educational displays at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. If you walk down the board walk over the salmon streams, you might get a chance to see spawning salmon, or even a bear!

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Glacier Canoe Paddle and Hike is our most sought-after adventure. Your journey begins at the Mendenhall Lake, where a canoe guide will provide paddle instruction. Equipped with gear, board your spacious canoe and set course for the Mendenhall Glacier. Witness Arctic tern nesting grounds and the cascading Nugget Falls as you glide past, with stunning views of the glacier in the distance. As the glacier draws near, keep your eyes peeled for freshly calved icebergs.

Exit the canoes and hike the rocky terrain, gaining intimate views of the glacier and learn about its rapid recession. Explore this ancient ice age wilderness and marvel at its ice features, including crevasses, ice fall at the toe of the glacier, and other deep blue mysteries. Constantly changing, the glacier offers a unique experience each day. This tour does not venture onto the glacier, but delivers front-row views. After immersing yourself at the glacier, board the canoes and paddle back across Mendenhall Lake.

You must include the following in the comments section when booking: raingear & shoe sizes for each passenger, (for adult men and women, S-XXL and youth, S-L) and any pertinent medical information. Smallest shoe size that can be accommodated is Youth 2 and largest is Adult 14.

All clients will be outfitted in 8 person or 12 person canoes, with 1 to 2 guides depending on the group size.

All clients must be in physically fit condition and capable of paddling 5-6 miles and hiking about 2 miles roundtrip. All clients must know how to swim.

Due to the inherent risks involved, we do not permit pregnant guests to participant.

With group departures we try to maximize our trip capacity and subsequently may need to alter the time to accommodate additional customers. If your trip's departure time changes we will notify you as soon as possible.

Glacier Access and feature exploration: The Mendenhall Glacier is receding daily. Because the glacier is in a state of constant change, not all features may be present or accessible. We will explore the edges of the glacier safely from the bedrock. This tour does not include trekking on the glacier.

A specific amount of time exploring the edge of the glacier cannot be guaranteed. The amount of time at the glacier is dependent on the group's pace and weather conditions

Clients must disclose information regarding pertinent medical conditions/history, allergies and any type of restriction or limitation that might introduce a higher degree of challenge on this trip.
