In the morning, meet your airconditioned coach in the French Quarter and settle in for the ride to the town of Jean Lafitte, a historic fishing village named for a notorious 19thcentury pirate and privateer. Located deep in the wetlands at the edge of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park, this town offers an authentic look at Cajun culture and local enterprise, including logging, plantation agriculture, and a rich and often grisly tradition of animal trapping.

Before heading out on the water, pop into the albino alligator exhibit and grab a delectable shrimp Poboy to go (own expense). Enjoy the proximity to the water surface and warm breeze as you zip through the bayou. Spot lurking alligators, snakes, raccoons and giant river rodents called nutria. Savor the moments of calm when the boat slows and your native captain shares stories and facts about the areas history and the surrounding wildlife and maybe even interacts with an animal or two!

Mickey Markey Park (Pass by)

Mickey Markey Park is a destination for families and dog owners in the Bywater. It was renovated a few years ago. From a fenced-off mostly-dirt field, it was turned into a sprawling green space for leashed dogs, soccer games, and lounging with a take-out pizza. A lot of birthday parties are hosted here with bouncy houses, summertime sprinklers and baby pools. And it's a spot for other, more unorthodox gatherings as well. This is the starting point for the annual naked bike ride, for instance. It's great for people-watching too. On weekends and nice-weather evenings, parents often gather with adult beverages while kids monkey around on the playground equipment.

Start at the Masonic Temple Cemetery #2, founded in 1865 by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana Free and Accepted Masons. Take a walk through the cemetery that is renowned for its unusual tombs.

Passing through City Park, one of the nation's oldest urban parks, the tour takes a break at Morning Call Cafe where you can purchase coffee and beignets.

1: Masonic Temple Cemetery #2

Founded in 1865 by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana Free and Accepted Masons, the Masonic Cemetery expresses a character distinct from the Catholic cemeteries that dominate the city. It is known for its many unusual, elaborate tombs, a reputation due in part to the cemeterys communal nature: members of lodges pooled resources to purchase large group tombs. Occupying two oddly shaped city blocks, the cemetery is triangular in plan, with Conti Street bisecting it. The triangular footprint of the bordering streets overlaid with the cemeterys angular internal walkways mimics the Masonic emblem of the square and compass. Cast-iron picket fences enclose its two distinct sections, while oak allées line its northern and western edges. Tombs are compactly arranged in rows parallel to Bienville Street, with a wide, paved promenade cutting through the center to provide access to smaller walkways between rows.

Your cocktails and jazz tour begins in Jackson Square where you'll find many of the best bars of the French Quarter are only a stone's throw away. Don't expect to spend much time on Bourbon Street though. While it has its place in New Orleans nightlife, we will be going beyond the tourist trail to show you what really makes New Orleans' cocktail culture unique.

For our first cocktail stop we will travel back to the 1700s and visit a bar which used to entertain some of the most eccentric characters in New Orleans history. Here, we will taste a famous drink of the city and learn how it has influenced New Orleans drinking culture today. We will then visit one of your guide's favorite bars and taste a drink so good you'll forget there's alcohol in it. Next up, we will sample the 'official cocktail of New Orleans': the Sazerac. One of the first cocktails ever invented, it's definitely tasty enough to stand the test of time.

Our final cocktail stop will be at one of the classiest establishments in town to try one of the city's most esteemed drinks, the Ramos Gin Fizz. After your first sip, you'll truly understand why New Orleans has been called, "the cradle of civilized drinking." There will be an opportunity to rest your feet or grab a bite to eat before the jazz portion of the tour begins. Your guide can recommend some good eats, depending on your preferences.

Then we'll head over to the historic and beautiful Louis Armstrong Park in the Treme neighborhood. Within the park, we will talk about the historical origins of jazz and discuss one of the jazz greats, Armstrong himself. From here, we will make our way to the popular Marigny neighborhood, a hip nightlife area that's home to the famous Frenchmen Street, where you'll find the largest concentration of live music venues in the city.

Being with a local, you'll have access to the best options, depending on the day of the week, time and band schedules. And to top it off, you will receive a beer on us at one of the stops. Destrehan is the closest plantation to New Orleans (25 minutes from downtown and 10 minutes from the airport) and is the only plantation accessible by rideshare or taxi. Learn about the plantations social, political, and economic history, explore an exhibit dedicated to the slave revolt of 1811, experience a folk-life demonstration on the expansive well-preserved grounds, and stop by the gift shop for locally-made crafts.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1: Destrehan Plantation

Our costumed historical interpreters will enlighten you with stories of those who lived on the plantation free and enslaved. After guests can view a folk-life demonstration and self-explore our grounds and dependency buildings, which include a slave cabin with an enslaved registry, an overseer's cabin showcasing our 1811 Slave Revolt Exhibit, an outdoor kitchen, a washroom, a trapper's cabin and our Legacy Room displaying original documents and artifacts from the family members.
